I danced with Norma for half a minute or so when she performed this song at The Powerhouse in Birmingham in the late 1980's. I had already got the Nightmare 12", knew most of the words, and mimed the words with her as we jigged on the dance floor for a short while. It was a great PA - she has a great voice.
nrg pop perfection!! - memories of the vintners & panama jax. never ever thought i'd hear this again, thanks so much - hearing this again after all these years has put a smile on my face.
The intro to the song really showcases the little background melody -- I wish I had the correct lingo. It really moves me! I wish there was a remix of this song so that we could get more of it.
Great song; heard it the first time at Probe in Hollywood. And thanks for the history of Norma Lewis; I had no idea. I used to be a club DJ years ago, so it's always great reading info about artists, songs, labels, etc. I know Hot Productions in Miami had released a CD of Nightmare recordings, but I don't believe this song was on it - bummer. Thanks for posting!

Produced on the Nightmare Records label (if my memory serves me well), this Norma Lewis Hi-NRG classic was popular on the gay scene in the 80s, being played at the Market Tavern, London Apprentice and Bromptons, just to name a few places! Great stuff!
Classic Hi-NRG with a bouncy melody and a fab vocal! I also love Norma's "Fight (For The Single Family)" (although not an Ian Levine production). Does anyone know why Lynda Laurence of The Supremes sang the first Norma Lewis recordings like "Life Is The Reason"?
I think they were the same person, am I wrong. When I worked at HMV and she released "dancing with the desperate" I remember the record company rep saying that he was told that they didn't know which one was going to be brought over from the USA to promote it. That confused me totally. Perhaps there were two of 'em.
Thank you Ian!!! I was thinking, maybe because at that time they wanted to keep promoting Norma.............but all the credits went to her anyway instead of Lynda!
Just put in Maybe this time Norma lewis here on Youtube. I am feeling the love. i have been trying to find this song for 15 years and just found it tonite on here..
Wow - memories are coming back to me....

I red that Lynda Laurence of The Supremes sang the first Norma Lewis recordings "Life Is The Reason"? Is that true???
carlosmiller 4 years ago
Yes that is indeed true. I myself mixed the twelve inch for Marvin Howell.

Why did they put Norma Lewis' name on the record?
carlosmiller 4 years ago
I still haven't fathomed that one out to this very day.
