  • The story i know---Frank Paris was my teacher and friend---he started Howdy Doody on Tv with his marionette for about 6 months and the problem was with Buffalo Bob as i understand it from him. Buffalo Bob was starting to copyright Frank's puppets. CBS was sued for a Million dollars which was hefty back 60+ years ago. Frank won. The original first Howdy Doody had to be destroyed.

  • This puppeteer I believe who has claimed to have created the Howdy Doody marionette has had in history a long outstanding feud long time ago with Rufus and Margo Rose of New London CT with whom I have gotten to know the couple that they were the first and original creators of Howdy Doody themselves I have personally witnessed in their very own home studio. What's the story I heard about him stealing their idea? I need to know the facts and truth of the outcome in this matter please. Thank you

  • @JSMiner1ify Frank Paris created the first Howdy Doody puppet, but because of a liscencing dispute that went to court, the puppet was burned and no longer exists. The Howdy Doody character that everyone is familiar with was designed & created by L.A. Puppeteer Velma Dawson. Margo & Rufus Rose became the head puppeteers on Howdy Doody, and went on to create additional characters, and were the caretakers of these puppets, during the show, and long after the show had finished taping.

  • His ideas were so common. The puppets of Greer Lankton are more contemporary.

  • I firstt learned of Mr. Paris as a young boy. His TV show the "Pixi;laeted Pixie" was one of my favorites.

A portion of the show was devoted to the art of creating marionettes.

If you think the fan dancer was good - you should see his figure skating ice dancer.

  • No joke in the beginning of the fan dancer i was like "a real person? gay! wheres the puppets!" and i fast forwarded, but then i got to look at it one more time... and it wasnt a person... this man is really talented...!

  • WOW! that was awesome!

  • Frank Paris was one of the top performers in his field. A great entertainer!

  • what the flip, i swear thats impossible! they move so realistically!

  • the woman looked so real

  • Beautiful

  • Impressive! Thank you very much.

  • the skeleton was a riot...

  • YouTube Circa 1923

  • for an olden day technique that's impressive of a puppeteer

  • The fan dancer is incredible.........

  • what's the song with the skeleton puppet?

  • i lovee the skeleton part

  • Wonderful! Have studied Frank Paris's marionettes in photos and on display but this is the first performance I've been able to see. Wonderful!

  • My grandfather was a puppetier. I have 4 of his skeleten marionettes (plus about 35 other vintage Pelham puppets from the 50s). There's currently one skeleton on sale on eBay.

  • His hands were painted black to keep the audience from looking at his hands. He could not use gloves, they would hurt his manipulation. Frank was the first to create cabaret style marionette manipulation. Short strung marionettes performed out front, usually a spot light. He was the first to perform at Radio City Music Hall.

  • Yes... His name is Frank Paris. He was the originator of Howdy Dowdy. I worked with him at Bob Baker Marionettes during the eighties. He was a wonderful guy... sorely missed.
