  • That gorgeous dark hair against the white tails is just scrumptous!

  • steve perry the only journey voice

  • love you Gregg!!

  • Steve Perry, "you look a real good to me" lol

  • And unless I'm mistaken, on the liner notes, this is a 100% Perry composition...

  • Once Jonathan Caine joined them they went off into 80's pop rock orbit.

  • neil is freekin hot, he is in my top 5 guitarist list. because his style is totally creative and he his one the best (LIVE) .......ive only seen him live twice but those were 2 of my favorite concerts. even when they started gettin away from their rock roots and becoming faggish, neil still kicked ass. IMHO

  • I believe that Sherrie was sitting in the audience here.

  • I just don't know how you could get any better than this!!!!! I love it.

  • One person is slightly misguided. :/

  • I wish I could have seen Journey when Greg was still in the band. By the time I saw them in the early 80's, Jonathan had already joined. I love the duos with Greg & Steve!

  • Thanks Mariet for posting. :))

  • simply,,,,god!!! great vid,,, thanks!

  • Extreme coolness...

  • Many TKS post this video.

Great shuffle blues and great hard rock!

They' re best American band ever .

  • Thanks for posting this. I was about 13 when Friday's first came on and always thought they had the hippest bands of the time. What a shame the series isn't on DVD, Thanks again

  • First time I ever seen this. Great performance. Steve Perry is not only the voice of the gods but knows how to get in the crowds head. Seeing him react with the crowd as he does here just makes me want to say Go Steve Go.

  • Got a Vhs or Beta of this somewhere. I learned how to play from these late night shows. way better with Rolie in the band.

  • this is the last of the good Journey. I got a tape of this somewhere in the garage.

  • You could tell they were having so much fun back then.

  • Infinity was there best album

  • @SteveSparx Check out the many live versions of infinity tunes

like Winds of March. La Do Da DoDAY . Love Perry but with Rolie

they could of been our Dead, Skynrd, Zep, Blues deluxe with that

NOTURNE sound..... key Crator Bowl progress to sun plaza

Toykyo thank god for HERBIE HERBERT

  • this is extra funky... in a good way

  • I saw this one when it aired on television, and I was into Journey since that night!

  • Thanks, mariet2 for posting this and so many other great Steve Perry and early Journey vids. Takes some of us back to the best years of our lives. It's such a joy being drawn into Steve's incredible talent, sweetness, happiness, and energy once again! And the best part is that he is so NOT into himself. What a sweet baby he is, then and always!

  • @LoveSweetSteveP If anyone should have been into himself it was Steve back then considering his amazing singing voice, song writing abilities and the fact it was him and him alone that made Journey get radio play.Him not being that way shows the kind of man he is compared to certain remaining members of this band even today.I think you can really tell from videos like these that Steve is a caring man who loved making a live audience happy and that one of his main priorities was to entertain them.

  • Happy Birthday, Steve!

Thank you so much for this great post!

I think it was their peak time.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE PERRY!

  • That is Yvonne, the mother of his daughter, Shamilla. This is the night they met!!!

  • @thorobredfan That is not Shamila's mom's name!

  • @thorobredfan Looks Like Sherrie Swafford his girlfriend of 5 1/2 years to me. This video was around 1979. He joined Journey in 1978. His daughter Shamila was born in the early 70s. So I think he would of had to have met Sham's mother before this time period.

  • Love it when Steve Perry runs up to Sherrie in the audience.

  • Thanks for the great post! This was the same sequence they used on Captured except 'Walks' went into Schon's guitar solo and segued directly into LaDoDa - which eventually ended in a drum solo by........... Ah......Steve Smith!

Back to 'Walks Like A Lady', how many drummers can make the brushes sound so good that it actually fits in a Rock- n-Roll band? Not many! Steve Smith is the man! This was my favorite Journey line up. They were kick ass here! Awesome post, very, very cool!

  • Wow......Haven't seen an Ovation electric in 20 years. Those were pretty rare.

  • F@#K Seinfeld...THIS IS FUCKIN' JOURNEY...STUPID.

  • "kramer" michael Richards got his start on this show-he was hilarious!

  • Schon always knows how to pull a great tone out of a Strat

  • Great video, thanks for the post, mariet2! Awesome!

  • This was Journey at its artistic peak, IMHO. Before "Escape" took them in a more pop-oriented direction, this was still solidly blues-based AOR rock with a heavy groove. Perry could do whatever he wanted with that voice and still had plenty to give. The recordings from this tour (1980's "Departure" Tour) are truly amazing!

  • @windsofmarch also when Gregg went solo and they picked Jon up

  • @windsofmarch Before Jonathan Cain.

  • fridays was a great show, the abc version of saturday night live. i still remember ted nugent being on there too

  • hhah WPRI !! where's Salty Brian?

  • This was the better Journey line up. Rollie brought a lot to the band's sound.

  • Journey to the rescue.. Now THIS is JOURNEY!!!!

  • How did you get this??

  • fridays was an abc version of saturday night live but (obviously) on friday night. it wasnt on very long but they had some great acts as u can see. video from this show is extremely rare

  • Now, finally, some of Journey that is just so f__king real. One of the best bands ever assembled. Steve Perry made Journey! But the band is totally awesome in its entirity.

    JF

  • STEVE PERRY , THE REAL VOICE !!!!

  • @cachambi AMEN

  • OMG that was awsome! Thank you for sharing... Do you have any more videos from this show? Would love to see them... (I can't remember if they were on every Friday night or occasional Friday nights... ) Thank you!

  • Omg, I remember when this was on and I've been hoping someone would post this. Thank you!

  • My Favo band of al time :)

    Steve Perry!Love you man..

  • thanxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx love steve perry an angelllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING MY FAVORITE ALL-TIME BAND!!

yeah Im an old guy! lol!

  • This shows Journey moving into a new phase...No more gay clothes for Steve, Gregg lost his stache, Neil has New wave clothes-no stache-shorter hair, Steve Smith as replaces Dunbar and Schon is playing some funky riffs

  • Lol at 7:11 when the camera guy just pops up behind Greg and's just like O hai.

  • As soon as you hear those drums and guitar before Where Were You? ITS SHEER ORGASMIC SOUND!

  • Yeppers...at this pt it was Steve and Schon;s band....

  • Why Won't he come back to US

  • I ask the same question...it's so sad...

  • This is a sure gem how ever did you find it Mariet2? This is When Journey was HOT! Smoking Hot! Shame on you Herbie for ever saying that Steve don't look at the Audience,The proof is right here you Herbie Herbert!

  • this is a rare gem, thank u. damn it sounds great!

  • I just have one word........*THUD*!!!!!!!!

  • I just wanna EAT him!!!!!

    Perryliscous!!!!

  • Or at least nibble on him.

  • STEVE ROCKS IT! Incredible performance where Steve KICKS IT across the stage and into the audience. It's like watching a bunny do BINKIES -- SHEER JOY @5:10! When I've had a bad day (or want to ward off one), all it takes is a little PERRY FIX.

  • these are the days when steve perry's voice is still intact...gone are those days but steve perry's songs would still be in our hearts...

  • Steve still has the voice.

  • Excellent.

  • I'd have no self control around Steve ! He is sooo great and has a voice that kills every time .What an awesome show !

  • I don't think that there are any shows that do live music like this. I could be wrong, but can ANYONE think of a live music show that is on today?

  • 7:12 that camera popping up behind Gregg... lmao!!

Damn, Steve was working it that night. Wow. Awesome performance.

  • How delightful! It's so fantastic that these old performances are still around -- they rock SO totally, and Stevie ... we love you, babe. Still and always. :-)

  • my my my Steve was just DELICIOUS, the band was ROCKIN', everyone seemed so happy! I am SO GLAD they left all of these videos and music to bring us back to that time of MAGIC. Seems like it was yesterday! Steve is MAGNETIC!!

  • JOURNEY = GREATNESS IN ROCK~!! Steve just ties me up in knots...has for 30+ yrs....weeeeeeee!

  • I hadn't seen it either. GREAT footage. Thanks for sharing this.

  • AWESOME video!!! Never saw this one before. Thanks for posting. Love the Where Were You song and will always LOVE STEVE!

  • I wish J. Cain would use a B3 more. He still uses a lot of cheesed out sounds.

  • J. Cain ain't no G. Rolie. Never will be...

  • This is fantastic Marie! I'm so glad I found your page, lots and lots of Steve Perry videos! Yeah!

    xxxx

  • Gotta just love Steve. So much energy. He really loves what he does. Thanks for sharing!

  • wow, great video...

  • How did I miss this one from you mariet??

    Two great songs!!!

  • Funny to think Larry David was writing on this show at the time and was yet to unleash Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Andy Kaufman a regular cast member-Anyway,Steve Perry is amazing and this band was unstoppable at this time...

  • This is awesome, Journey at their best. Thanks mariet for posting this. 5 stars

  • Awesome!

  • Steve sure could wake everyone up! It's amazing knowing now where all this took them. Thanx mariet2... our feedings are still going strong in 2008!

    :)

  • Ahhh.......the glory days of Journey. They were best from 1977-1983. I prefer this lineup with Gregg. They rocked here!
