  • The title applies well to the band's incessant sollipsistic whining.

  • @Thorenus I'm there dude.

  • @Thorenus slipping in is too easy, i know how you feel, we are our own destroyers, it's all in your head convincing you that it's easier to feel so bad all of the time, but sometimes I think that sadness is a blessing, sometimes it is comforting to feel darker.

  • @StephenAndrew777 I like cheese.

  • This was Morrissey's response to the media. He basically said "hey I am selling records and I am popular so f-you. Great song!

  • greatest song of all time

  • I'm a reptiloid from Tau Ceti Alpha and we study human emotions by listening to the Smiths.

  • Morrissey expressed so much brilliant pain on this record. I think as he became a star he got further away from the common man, and on this record, he was still there. The emotions expressed on this record are so universal and honest. The music, of course, sheerly amazing.

Shows the power of acoustic guitar and a rhythm section, kiddies. Don't let those electronics fool you kiddies. They do cool things, but guitar is an ancient winner instrument for a reason.

  • love love love

  • kick them when fall down ...

  • 3:45.... you think the song is ending but then it comes back in UGH i love the Smiths. They are musical gods.

I had posters, T-Shirts, mags.. you name it.. dont know what happen to any memorablila but I have all their albums including 4 on vinyl and a couple singles. Favorite band of all time.

  • I'm a 65 million years old vaccuum cleaner and I existed way before The Smiths and already loved them!

  • @Mauroleiicus That joke isn't funny anymore.

  • @19RaS93 Good one.

  • @Mauroleiicus Sounds like my great-grand. Fourteen kids, most of them from different fathers.

  • @Mauroleiicus

  • @Mauroleiicus that joke isnt funny anymore.

  • @Deanchester16 people like you replying that to my comment is not funny anymore.

  • @Roxxzor816 Yeah.....I bet you listen to hard manly hetero music like Judas Priest......oh wait....

  • @swedeseed VERY JEALOUS!

  • I havent heard this much depth and conviction behind someones voice since Jim Morrison. I have such a new found respect for Morrisey and the Smiths. Like the person who posted above me . Wish i had given bands like the smith a chance way back when.

  • 12 people never saw that happen in their lives.

  • it's such a beautiful song D:

  • What is the eerie, wirey soundin the last 2 minutes, is that a keyboard or the guitar?

  • @brightlights456X

I think it's most probably an ebow, in Johnny Marr's very capable hands.

  • @BassRosa

Just YouTubed "ebow" never knew such a thing existed. How comes so many band don't use it? Thanks for the reply by the way doll face.

  • ooo-oooooo Why must you, kick them when they fall down, kick them when they fall down?

  • @spizzardo Best part of the song, gives me shivers

  • @poshhammers I listen to them now, and I'm only 13.

  • @NinjaGrapeful Hahaha, me too. But I just turned 14.

  • Excelente LOS SMITHS...... L-505.

  • That bass needs a special mention.

  • I was listening to this once when my brother came into the room. He got all snotty-like and said, "Now WHAT'S happening in his?"

I was all like, "Whatever it is that's happening, you dumbf##k."

  • And now it's happening in mine!

  • 12 people are still laughing

  • One of my favorite Smiths' songs. Sounds just as good as when I heard it over 20 years ago. Some things age like a good wine :).

  • @beachplum98 you have good taste..my fav too

  • Just Genius.

  • Like I give a Fuck...

  • Yes; Who ARE those people...???!!!!

  • I love The Smiths

  • I'm 537 years old and when I was 18 during the discovery of America I loved The Smiths.

  • @BJBlitzstein .........Im also 537 yrs young, the discovery of america I missed as I was discovering earphones whilst listening to the smiths very loudly which lead to loss of hearing and from then on in I never heard any news again....sad but true ha

  • I heard "this charming man" back in the day at a club and went brought the album. Upon listening to the whole album repeatedly i would have swore i was listening to "gay" music because of the lyrics. But that didn't stop me from buying every album, cassette, cd by the Smiths. 20 yrs later and i think of all the women i have loved that loved the Smiths."The sun shines from our behines....aw haaa ah ha "

  • I think this song is about bulling

  • I was raised on them, and even now, at 15 years old, I still love them more than any other band.

    o 3o

  • This band is great, at 42 I realize what I new at 16

  • it never gets old!

  • wtf that moment at 3:45 was really unexpectable

  • 12 people still find the joke funny

  • I really can't believe how amazing the Smiths are !! I listened to them when they came out back in the 80's and thought how can lyrics and music be this good . Their music is relevant and timeless today. Their music just gets better with time.

  • 1 Can of Special Brew + 1 Spliff + This Song = Absolute fucking paradise....Please everyone even if youre anti drinking or anti drugs.. put away your prejudices and do it...You won't regret...You'll just have the best 4:50 mins of your life. Guranteed

  • @stoxocube18

And go into a darkened room, close the door and just lay there and play this song on repeat. If you don't have tears streaming down your face by the second play, you aren't alive. The most depressingly glorious experience of your existence! I know because I've been there...

  • Sounds a bit fast

  • @RussMoxham yep it does, it takes away some of the depressing aspect of the song

  • A beautiful song by The Smiths. Just breathtaking!!!

  • chills CHILLS i get from this song, always did.. i would NOT have survived high school without Smiths...maybe those bullied teens who are killing themselves at astonishing rates right now, they should've stuck around and discovered the Smiths, and maybe Morrissey would've saved them like me :-) :-(

  • This song says so much about my life right now.

  • The Smiths, U2, Radiohead, greatest bands of all time. too bad Marr and Morrissey could not get along as well as Bono and the Edge. such a short life, but we can enjoy the music for decades.

  • 10 people have never been kicked when they fell down

  • Probably my favourite album from them.

  • damn i love the smiths, have all thre albums, and im 18

  • poshhammers. I turned down the chance to see them 5 times in the mid-eighties. too girly-emotional I thought. Finally got it in '87, bought all the albums, including their new one and then they split. what regrets. the greatest band of all time.

  • Can anyone explain why this track fades away for a point at 3:32? Well I wonder.

  • @TheJohhnyDavey dunno but they do it at the begginning of ''some girls mothers'' also

  • Love this.

  • Love the Smiths, I'm 37, and I'm deeply ashamed that I wasn't into them when i was a teenager, took me until university when I started listening to them. It does actually piss me off that I didn't have the emotional intelligence to appreciate them during my youth......late developer I suppose, but making up for it now.

  • @poshhammers I'm 46 and have been a Smiths fans since I was in High School in the Early 80's. Great Band. They were the first band that wasnt Metal that I listened to. So poetic and deep..

  • @poshhammers I'm just getting into them now. I'm 14 :D

  • @poshhammers

If you don't mind saying, who was you listening to as a teenager?

  • @poshhammers im in the same boat i . I'm 25 and I'm just starting to find bands such as the smiths, echo and the bunnymen, joy division, etc very appealing (There is much depth behind the music) . I wouldnt have been caught dead listening to this during my highschool days.

  • @poshhammers ...sometimes it takes years to aquire such taste :)...enjoy the journey x

  • @poshhammers better late than never.......... :-)

  • Possibly the bleakest song of all time. It's certainly the bleakest song that i've ever heard, and one of the best.

  • @ciaran3707 I think this song is about suicide

  • Listening to this reminds me of living in St Leonards Ave in a crumbling house when I was 18 and I bought this album. There was a Siamese cat with one tooth. Ah, memories.

  • Morrisey haunting voice and Johnny's great guitar playing = miracles

  • 10 people bullied Morrissey.

  • My Air Force husband came back from Iraq and left me for another woman after two kids and ten years of marriage...I've seen this happen in other people's lives and now it's happening in mine...

  • god some of this people really dont listen to lyrics its obviously about suicide think about it hes saying hes parked his car nr the side of the road the joke is suicide hes had enough of seeing it happen to other people in his life- its too close to home

  • @rachieb924

-I thought its a huge double entendre between suicide & losing your virginity [to a prostitute no less]

  • @rachieb924 It's about falling in love ("I've seen this happen...") and having sex for the first time ("I just might die with a smile on my face..."). It's a hopeful song!

  • Who are those fucking 10 people??????????!!!!

  • @rodcarrero Just a bunch of sad people who never grew up

  • @rodcarrero They must be slipknot fans.

  • @rodcarrero some rusholme ruffians.

  • @rodcarrero people who laugh at standard comedic release and fail to see the depth of The Young Ones and or The Black Adder. Not to mention the skill of Marr and the Moz..

  • @rodcarrero

justin bieber and all his even cohorts. sad world we live in, my friend.

  • @rodcarrero This Joke Is'nt Funny Anymore.

  • @rodcarrero their mtv's top 10 pop of all time voters

  • One of the best songs by one of the best bands Ever! These guys had the perfect chemistry of sound. And the pairing of Johnny Marr's guitar with Morrissey's lyrics was perfect balance. There will never be anything like this again. Enjoy it, and pass it along.
