The sign of an excellent parody is attention to detail. These guys did a great job. The audience knew every visual cue, and got every joke...down to the star effect over the "girls'" eyes. Kudos!

"Emo dudes"? I assume you mean the subculture and not the music but in 1982 that subculture had a very different style than today. A Flock of Seagulls are considered to be a New Wave or Synthpop band.

What I mean is that musically they are probably unrelated (or distantly related as they are genres of rock). In terms of relation to the subculture they are also apparently unconnected. The hairstyle may have had a very distant effect on the emo subculture we know today. I Ran (So Far Away) is one of their colder songs, in my opinion, but one which I enjoy the most.
