  • Is there anything else that can be used other than the master mold.... seeing as I dont have one lol

  • thanks man ive been wanting to find out what kind stuff u use to make the armor shiney and where can i get the sintra board at

  • Kandossi, vod :) It looks awesome

  • i know you get asked this but i have never heard of sintra, is it a pvc board like the ones off foamboardsource website there are some there with similar names

  • what is sintra?

  • I like your mandalorian tattoo

  • i didn't have money to buy rub n buff so i just wore my armor into battle a few times to scruff it up

  • Question: I got a couple sheets of 1mm Sintra, so it's thinner than the stuff you were using, but when I've been trying to use my heat gun to get it to the floppy-stage, the plastic starts curling pretty hard long before it gets as flexible as I'd like it to.

Am I holding the gun too closely? Should I only use the low-power setting? Or is this just a side-effect of using the thinner plastic?

  • @HowardAltEisen

Thats correct. its just a thinner plastic. But that's a good thing because thats how you could tell that its ready to be molded to shape. but it is better to use a thicker sheet.

  • Can you put fiberglass over top of the armor?

  • @CadenLutz

    sure.

  • can you tell me please the materials I'd appreciate it a lot

  • @1500blackstar

    which parts?

  • @Aretworow you used the in the video

  • you have a bounty hunter symbol tat..... :D so awesome

  • @Starfox384

    thanks man!

  • say u were going to make armor that looks like master chief from the halo video games for a costume.... is that possible to make out of sintra?

  • @ShootToThrill16

Yes - you will just cup pieces with sharp corners and glue them.

  • How easily will the Rub n Buff come off after rubbing it in vigorously? I'm making Cloud's Buster Sword from FF7 and was planning on using it on the shiny edge of the blade. Also, can you clear coat over this, or does it lose it's metallic properties?

  • @SirAuronPD

i would not recommend using a clear coat on R&B. it will dull out the shine. if you buff it hard enough, you will have no problems with it it coming off.

  • also what did you say was the mold you used to use, not the one made of acrylic the one u used before, did you say ''bando"?

  • @ShootToThrill16 It's Bondo. A comercial body filler to repair scratchs on cars... it is made of polyester I think... and it is really easy to sand. If you live in the UK, we have Isopon P32 that is almost the same thing under a different name :)

    Cheers.

  • @ShootToThrill16 It's Bondo. It's some really helpful stuff.

  • @ShootToThrill16 bondo. its a type of clay usually used for car repairs

  • would you be able to press it against your leg instead of the mold? or would it be to difficult or hot?

  • @ShootToThrill16

I wouldnt recommend that. you could really burn yourself doing that.

  • Nice tattoo, I'm currently starting my own personal mandalorian armor.

  • @FallenTemplar1405

Nice - I have seen some really cool looking mandalorian costumes.

  • Id like to see a close up of your tat.... I have the same one on my right forearm but its twice the size and has custom detailing in it.

  • awesome!

    what's the gray shiny painting?

  • @JokeEmperor - yes abotut 10 other colors.

  • Nice. How do you clean your hands later? I only use r'n'b for much smaller items and it's still hard to wash it off.

  • @khunag - Dish soap works best. It might take a couple of times and hard scrubbing. :D

  • Nice your jango armer is cool

  • @KEVQUATRO1 - thank you! :D

  • With some clever googling and reading some forum pages at thedentedhelmet and bobafettfanclub, you can find alternate names for competing similar products: styrene sheet, polystyrene sheet, foamalux, foamex. I found styrene at usplastic and foamalux at westwardplastics for decent prices ($7 for a 4-foot by 2-foot sheet of foamalux).

Google can be your friend too!

  • 2 questions.

[1] Couldn't you freeze the sintra after you shape it to make it hold the form quicker?

[2] How would you go about making armor if you don't have a master mold to form it with?

    [2]

  • @damunson3 - you could add water and it will hold the shape instantly.

  • oooh ya doin a piece for Jango or Boba? love the tattoo btw! :D

  • Nice job mate!

    You make it look easy!

  • i used this stuff in art class to make ink stamps but we used a giant iron you could use an iron to soften it up BUT be sure to put a piece of paper in between the sitra and iron

    great vid

  • Sintra is a high density type expanded plastic. You can also boil water and use that to soften the sintra. Be careful not to crush it when it's softened or it'll essentially become limp and floppy like a noodle. It's a great material though, and proabably one of the easiest to use.

Thanks for uploading instructions on armor, I'm in the process of replicating certain armor. so thanks!

  • it seems you know some imformation about this material.Exactly how strong is this material, i.e. would it withstand a blow from say metal or the likes?

  • Kandosii, ner vod!

Got a q: where can you get the sintra and the other products at? I like this method and I think that I might do better trying this than my other plan with trash cans. I want to make a Jango inspired femme set with silver 'gam plates like those. Do you think that I could make a set without a master mold?

(Oh, btw, nice mythosaur tat; you're a true fan I see. ;-) )

Ke nu jurkad sha Mando'ade, burc'ya!

    Oya! : )

    Mand'ika

  • Woah! Cool, simply awesome! I just wonder...

Is that fantastic Rub 'n' buff supposed to work even on a thin and smooth surface like astralon?

  • what do you mean 600 400 is that how many times i rub the sintra

  • He's talking about the sandpaper grit.

  • @deathdriver2007 - That's the sandpaper grade. :D sorry.

  • I knew a girl who used my heatgun as a hair drier.

She had to cut most of her hair off.

  • lmao

  • Haha, fail!

  • how big a pieces do sintra come in and can u use a blowdryer if u don't have a heat gun?

  • @Locker344 - blow drier wont do much justice. it will take a while and it wont have an even heat.

  • where can u buy sintra, would make good armor for what i want. how can u put your pieces together if u want to make...say samuri armor....could u make holes in it?

  • also how heavy is it if u make a full suit?

  • not very,it pritty light im almost done!

  • how much is it an where can ya get some o it?

  • @Locker344 - Sintra is a name brand, but the stuff is actually called . . .

Rigid PVC Plastic or Expanded PVC Foam

and you could hot glue parts to it.

  • Why didnt you just tell your friend to let you use his acrilic cutter? Then paint the acrilic peices?

  • @windowwisher - the acrylic pieces were made for the reason to have a master mold. plus they will be very heavy.

  • thank you!!!!!!! :)

  • question(s): I plan to make shoulder plate armor for a costume I'll be wearing to a crowded convention. It's usually pretty warm--will that effect my completed armor at all? I don't want to make it and have it melt or remold later xD

    TY

  • also, the armor I'm making is blue, not gray/silver colored; when I use the rub'n'buff is there a primary I can use that will get the job done and not disrupt the color in the end? (I dunno much about this, can't ya tell? xD;; )

  • The heat has to be pretty hot and constant to cause the plastic to soften enough to deform but if your really worried about it you can reenforce the shape with putty, fiberglass, epoxy or resin

  • @khaza1wolfgurl - its a pretty high density stuff, so it wont deform once theres heat in the air.

  • Where do you get the molds? or how would I come about to aquire or make one? Awesome tattoo by the way :D

  • u can make molds quite easily if u are cheap get modeling clay and let it dry to the shape u want. i will work.

  • @Locker344 - yes

  • @evo1776 - you have to build the molds with bondo etc. i was lucky enough to have a friend that works at place where my acrylic mold could be done.

  • Kandosii! This will help so much when I make my own beskar'gam!

  • Nice job bro 5/5

  • AWESOME TUTORIAL, a good weathering method is wetting the area with water, and spraying the choice color on, while the armor is still wet. this leaves a grimey look to it. but your style is still awesome. great job

  • i love your tattoo!

  • Hey bro!!! this tutorial is AMAZING! You've helped me out a ton on TDH, and now here. You rock bro! I'm sporting that same tat on my leg bro! :D

  • IT turned out really nice :D

    Just a couple questions, though.

    1. You made the mold out of bondo originally, right? Then later a friend made it of acrylic?

    2. Around how much would a pretty decent sized sheet ofsintra(probably around 5' by around 10' (full suit of armour -helm) that's around 1/8" thick cost?

    3. Would this stuff just kinda melt on pretty hot days?

  • I think it would take a significant amount of heat to melt it or make it flexible again (around 100-200 something degrees Fahrenheit) but I understand your worry xD the convention I go to is really crowded which means a lot of body heat, suu... :3

  • @trejomino - yes. it was bondo. Then i was scanned to make both sides of the chest then printed. and no it wont melt at all. it needs a great sense of heat to deform it. just as much as the heat gun.

  • nice mandalore tattoo u got there lol.

  • is this sintra expensive.?

  • @DatoFarid - not at all. you could order sheets that are already cut. but the best thing is the pick it up. cuz shipping will cost more then the actually product.

  • @Aretworow yeah most of the stuffs r like that.

    thanx for the info man.

    i appreciate it pal :)

  • this is all fine and dandy if you have a mold. I don't.

  • protecting paint balls is smart i should use that

  • you know that everyone is going to try and make this so you need to make more details

  • how tough is sintra like what would it protect you against

  • Not much. It's basically plastic a couple mm thick. I guess against most airsoft and paintball guns, but not much else.

  • NICE TATOO! I think i am gonna get that 1 and the jedi symbol

  • i couldnt help but notes that tat on yer arm if my big brain servs me rong isnt that a mandalorean tat (from star wars)

  • yes, an the piece of armor he is making is a one of boba fett's chest pieces....fett rules

  • jango fett, my bad

  • Sorry but i need this answered quick:

would this protect u against bbs?

  • Quick question:

How do I make a mold?

  • Yes, I`d like to know that too

  • im making gears of war armor do you

think this would be good for that

    and is this stuff pricey?

  • I paid about 40 dollars for a 4'x8' sheet. Not to bad imo

  • disregard my previous comment. How do you make the molds?

  • Do you suggest using the 1/8" thick sintra, or 1/4" sintra board? It's probably a stupid question, but I would like to know for sure. I don't want something too thin that it doesn't even seem like armor.

  • @spetznaz1337 - 1/8

  • whats sintra

  • It's a plastic the gets soft enough so that you can shape it when heated.

  • Thanks Christian.

Sintra is a high density expanded PVC foam board. It's great stuff.

  • @Aretworow were can i get sinta?

  • @arenmcg - Sintra is a name brand, but the stuff is actually called . . .

    mandalorians are the best

  • is this armor capable of protecting ?

  • If you make it out of metal :P. Sintra is just plastic.
