  • ouch!

  • =))))))))))))))))))))))

  • @goatMee LMAO!!! 😂😂

  • What's the difference between a viola and a trampoline?

When you jump on trampoline, you take your shoes off.

  • 112 people who likes it think it's a good idea to break a viola~ LOL

  • 5 people think this guy didn't brake the viola in the right way !

  • omg............

  • Could not have dealt with that better. I would have gone effing mental.

  • Now now, don't lose the bridge! Fantastic playing by the best. It was simply a misfortunate accident that can easily be put back together. :)

  • And I HATE when that happens!

  • aauch hasta a mi me dolio

  • Can someone please tell me what he is.... was playing?

  • keep holding 3

    dubstep

  • Press 3. LOL!

  • Comment removed

  • The guy:

    Plays instrument

    intrument thingie brakes.

    3 secs later.

    MEH! sorry hoor!

  • sorry hoor

  • This is why violas shouldn't perform as soloists ;)p

  • @Violinheaddd why would you say that to Yuri Bashmet bitch?!

  • Shinju wash out that mouth hoe. Go practice

  • What does he say? "Sorry HOOR"? What does that mean?

  • @gram440a

Hoor is an untranslatable Dutch interjection. Literally it means 'hear'.

  • @arneperschel ah, thanks

  • poor guy..hope this never happens to my viola :/ i started playing viola in 6th grade

  • poor guy..hope this never happens to my viola :/ i started playing viola in 6th grade

  • I laughed so hard then I cryed because I felt bad for him xD

  • @nexus1937 dont need to feel bad for him, the instrument itself is allright, the part that broke is maybe like 20$

  • The end button came loose. The tailpiece is basically "tied" around the button, and when it comes out, BLAMMO!

  • Notice how after the violia breaks, one cellist keeps playing.

  • this is why violas suck.

  • @JazzBluesClassical42

    Shut your whore mouth.

  • @KittyRokher you are a smelly pirate hooker (violist)

  • @JazzBluesClassical42

    I'm a violinist.

  • @JazzBluesClassical42 Burn :o

I haven't see that many good viola players and I think that is because there aren't that many good viola teachers... hehe. There are some exceptional viola players though and they can play the violin better than I can ._.

    @KittyRokher :D

    Viola and Violin rivalry

  • Si es que con los "violas"....ya se sabe lo que hay...

  • DA RISA.. peroo pobre EN MITAD DE PRESENTACION :d

  • Bueno, pero creo que ese tipo de accidentes te da más confianza... Lo que por lo general piensas es "Ya la fregaste" (No fue tu culpa) pero si sigue el concierto con otro instrumento lo harías con mas ganas.

  • I love how he's just like "...What do you want me to do?"

  • The silence between the bridge breaking and the audience clapping is just hilariously awkward.

  • I thought it was John Lennon.. O.o

  • @taterthesufferer xD hehehehe

  • akjsfljaflkjalkjsdf como se asusta xDDDDDDDDDD

  • Lol

  • there's actually no damage to the instrument.

the only thing that came apart was the tailpiece and that's worth about $10.

everything else is originally just wedged in place and can be easily put back with a new tailpiece.

  • @sijas Well the sound post could have gotten messed up, but then again I am a bassist and I don't know exactly how sensitive the sound post is for the viola. I could imagine it's not as sensitive as a bass. I bet placing the bridge piece is quite a tedious process though.

  • @sijas It could've been worse. The violins soundpost could've collapsed and that would be hard to fix

  • proof that g-d hates violas ;)

  • That was no accident. Its a viola.

  • he must of pressed the end button on accident

  • the show must go on.

  • ...."THIS GUY" is simple the best violist in the world ever.

  • @TheEngraver

I was thinking the same... """-.-

  • I love his reaction to the strings popin from under his chin!!! an then everybody just stops to see what happened. this is gotta be embarrassing

  • I love his reaction to the strings popin from under his chin!!!

  • I love...his reaction xD

  • wow, he handled that beautifully. no doubt its a multi-thousand dollar instrument. i would have been screaming "shit, fuck, MY INSTRUMENT!" and he shrugs it off. id be gon apeshit.

oh yea, and the playing before it happened gave me goosebumps. i need to hear the rest of this song...

  • dumbass

  • i would start playing it as a purcussive viola

  • its a violist....not a violonist...:))

  • The guy is Yuri Bashmet, world's best violinist!!!

  • Anybody recognize what music he was playing?

  • >.< I play the violin and my violin bridge went flying off when I was tuning. My gosh. His was scarier... Did he practise too much?

  • @NarutoAddictNTF It seems like a tailpiece malfunction, most likely the "tailgut" broke or came loose. Very simple repair that can be done in the field. Nonetheless, funny as hell!!!

  • @maverickdallas100

But wouldn't it mean that he would need completely new set of strings again?

  • @NarutoAddictNTF Professional musicians just simply do not go out on a gig without essential spare parts on hand such as extra strings, bridges, etc. Many even carry spare instruments so they can finish the show without much interruption.

  • @maverickdallas100

I see. Wow, you know a lot! =o I thought that concert masters can lend instruments?

Now I finally know why violinists have bigger bag than mine. Haha. xD

  • @NarutoAddictNTF I've been playing music for over 35 years and worked with countless fiddlers/violinists and upright basses in country and bluegrass bands. They come well prepared, and so do I. Even at the beginner level, it would be foolish to do otherwise! Some of my favorite on the classical end: Yo Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, and Yuri Bashmet to name a few.

  • @maverickdallas100

How was it like to live a life like that? I really wish to join the world of music. *Eyes sparkles* Too bad I cannot. xD Then do you know Ben Chan and Ji Youn Kim? I only knew Yo Yo Ma when I searched for the song "Prelude". That one's the best cello piece to me so far. =D

  • @NarutoAddictNTF First of all, you need a "day job" unless you really make it big-time in music (which I didn't-yet). nice to do for extra income, can be tiring, but a lot of fun. My main instruments are pedal steel guitar, 5-string banjo, resonator (dobro) guitar. I've played them in numerous genres and settings. Lately though it's pretty much a hobby for me--a good one at that, with potential benefits. I still take on paying gigs and benefit concerts as they become available.

  • @maverickdallas100

You're really lucky to be able to get paid for doing something pretty enjoyable. =o

Do you have your own band?

  • @NarutoAddictNTF Log onto stillhousepickers(dot)com. They are the latest of dozens of acts I worked with over the years. In some of the pictures I am playing a Dobro resonator guitar-(played with a steel slide and the fretboard facing up) I am also playing banjo in one of the photos. It's fun and we get to meet a lot of people. Though I never made it to the major leagues, I've rubbed elbows with many top performers from Nashville, Branson, Wheeling and even from abroad. Memories galore!!

  • @maverickdallas100

I will be checking them all out now! =D

  • @NarutoAddictNTF Just to clarify, Yuri Bashmet is playing the viola, which is somewhat bigger than a violin and tuned a fifth lower. The violas provide the essential middle voice in an orchestra's string section (between the violins and cellos). A few very gifted players like Yuri have brought the viola into the spotlight as a highly effective solo instrument. The viola being played in the video is likely his very rare and valuable Paolo Testore built in the 1750's. Yuri can really make it sing!

  • @maverickdallas100

There's another violist I know who is talented. He has a band with a violinist. They both combine songs of all sorts into one song. It would be great if all the talented musicians can be together to make a great music!

Is it true when people say that violists are usually not respected as much as other instrument players? =o (Which is unfair for them to be treated that way!)

  • HAHA i love how he keeps shrugging. I feel bad for him though! i can't stop watching the part where the bridge comes flying off.

  • lol!

  • Not ruined as long as the sound post wasn't knocked out. Love his bemused look.

  • Furthermore, the viola is fine. The bridge collapsed. That is a cheap, replaceable part and easy to fix. It looks like a big deal but it's not.

  • Comment removed

  • There's nothing embarrassing about it-- it's an equipment malfunction and it is in no way a reflection of the player's skill. By the way, that player-- Yuri Bashmet-- is one of the two or three greatest living violists.

  • Viola fail

  • @melievans hey viola rocks i play it

    where u getting at xD

  • that sucks, in the middle of a concert too

  • ouuu..

  • Oops.

    Zat vas not medicine!

  • not ruined, he just needs a new tailpeice

  • hahahaha

  • well its not exactly ruined... lol

  • Thats a viola

  • Tail gut.... you go Juri (great teacher by the way )

  • roflmfao@@@@@

  • KAWUUUUUMMMM....... Sorry hoor

    lol

  • that happened 2 my cello in the middle of my lesson

my teacher was having me play a piece 4 a grade and then THAT happened lol

    it got fixed luckily

  • Change the title of the video!!!!

  • This is a common occurrence: the tailgut—a little cord that attaches the ebony tailpiece to an endbutton—popped. This usually happens with older-style tailguts which are actually made from gut cord. The heat of the player's neck eventually wins out and they do that. A minor repair, but inconvenient! Modern ones are nylon and don't tend to do this.

    Yes, it's a viola, not a violin.

  • "Sorry hoor" XD

  • It's a viola actually, not a violin...

  • i think you'll find the person who posted this titled it "violin accident" with a double meaning- they meant that it's also an accident that "violin" is in the title and not "viola"

  • LOL

  • lol the way he jumped was funny

  • "This guy's viola"??? "This guy" is Yury Bashmet O_______O

  • @Rinhos Lesson: when something bad happends to you, you should know, it's not personal, it even happens to Yuri Bashmet, world's best viola player...

  • @StephaneGrappelli my dear, I meant, as you do, that it's a bit funny to call "this guy" the greatest VIOLIST (not violinist my dear) ever ;)

  • @Rinhos yeah, my mistake, another mistake is not surrounding "the guy" with quotes

  • POPS OFF

    "oshet"

  • Oh that's a shame that the crowd claps for his misfortune!

  • How embarassing, I would be devastated. That's definitely the worst thing that can happen to me. My poor cello (sob, sob)

  • Bridges popping out are common, will probably happen once or twice a year, at least, for a player. I play viola, trust me :P

  • It was his tail piece, as that came first.

  • @RMWViolin Oh I see now. Looked like the bridge the first time I watched, but the strings wont have popped

  • @AridSea hem i agree it can happen but if once or twice a year, maybe you should give the instrument a good check up... it should not happen that often... i make them, trust me... ;)

  • holy crap that's what happened to my violin!

  • is a viola

  • its a viola but it still broke

  • It's a viola! not a violin!

  • @Carlanga92 It's a viola, actually :)

  • Immature?

  • The tailpiece came off!

  • Paganini would keep playing! Somehow...

  • hahaha youre funny =)

  • @ingaman LOL

  • @ingaman Did you ever see Niccolo Paganini play in person? You must be as old as Methuzelah!!!

  • @maverickdallas100 We were roommates back in college.

  • @ingaman he would wistle =))

  • np ^^

  • Comment removed

  • That's is not just a guy!!!! is BASHMET!!!!!

  • wtf *sorry hoor* ?

  • That was a Mexican jumping button!!

  • That has just happened to my violin 0.0

the strange thing is that I wasn't playing at all. It was just above the case...

    oh, well...

At least the soul's in its place =)

  • his whole bridge fell off

  • What happened is simply that the gut thingy broke. Happened to me once and nearly blinded me in one eye. I have a feeling he was not really too pleased about it. I wouldn't be if I was in the middle of a concert. I imagine another "lesser" viola player lent him his or her instrument. Then there would be a frantic repair going on behind the scenes by the orchestra technician to replace the gut and restring the instrument for next movement. Dock

  • and he didn't get pwned, genius, this happens to musicians.

I broke an "A" string at concert, and had to play on three strings.

  • I think thats actually a viola
