this song ties in with a book i finished reading a couple of hours ago called " the devils arithmetic" there are no words to describe this book. its about the Holocaust.
in the end they try to escape the camps. its the scariest book ive ever read. reality surpasses fiction): respekt:):):)
@alicepotter777 is it by Jane Yolen? I read a book by her called 'Briar Rose' (which is also about the Holocaust) and some of the scenes in it kind of remind me of this song. lol :P
@xxxxxxxxKatexxxxxxxx i dont remember the auther but its about this girl who doesnt understand the importance of the history of judaism. so she gets sent to like 1940 and she relives everything her great grandparents lived, and she knows everything that is going to happen. the body she ends up in dies in the end, but right before she goes into the gas chamber she comes back to the present.
I always think of that Edward Hopper painting, Nighthawks, when I hear this song. I've always wondered if the painting was Regina's inspiration for this. Like, she saw it and then her creative mind just invented this awesome story about what might be happening in the painting; a story where all of the members are in cahoots planning some sort of heist that night... a heist that fails miserably, as we hear.
well they r not actually random she has a deep meaning behind all of her songs look at the lyrics but we can never be sure what she means since we all take different things from her songs. i can see how you may think they r random but just for future reference try paying more attention to the lyrics and not just the beat.
@jemmismeers Tomato is nice, but I think carrot and apple soup (which tastes a lot better than it sounds) is the best. But then again, there's always the classic standby of matzo ball soup...
she grew up in the 90's in russia - a real crap era.....the hat was old school GI....the booze speak 4 itself....! its really what hip cats wore at the time in moscow clubs / art scenes - where she started....
i think she wuz in her teens, maybe.. didnt do clubs til after that....song was a demo b4 she moved, i bet....eitherway - a demo u b4 u hit it big....this from back then...check "rejazz" by her ....!!
shen she does that shiver sort of effect at 3:06....i NEVER heard anything that weird.....kewl lyrics the guy gets kiled by the car in the end (? !) " running --- in a game of tag, until he was hit , until he was it "..... she's has it all.....who needs a drummer , eh ? ha ha
i think the sunchronizing ribcages are like they were all getting really nervous or excited before they robbed the bank thing..just wanted to put that out there :)
It's just another way of saying that their hearts are beating in synch, at the same time. Like a perfect plan, accentuated by the total synchronization of the other in oneself.
How could you even ask that question with the cd cover on the screen the entire time the video is playing? I'll assume you didn't know that was the cover of an album lol
Who knows. You never know Buster could've just been hit , not killed. Since she doesn't give a description on how he got hit or "died". So its really unclear. But in her words, there's a great possibility that Buster died. I love how she makes her songs on daily life and other things we wouldn't imagine about a singer singing.
it would be interesting to try and make a musical out of all of Regina Spektor's songs like what Mamma Mia did with ABBA. I'd like to try just for kicks
yea the only problem would be that she isn't as well known as a group like ABBA I mean they're the kind of songs you sing with your mom in the car. You say Regina Spektor and you get is "umm...don't think I know her" it's sad ,because she's so great more people should listen to her, but good because with her it's all about the music and not the tabloid-celebrity-hollywood shit
the main theme of this song sounds exactly like "love affair." rhythmically, at least. but the change in harmony and the completely different attitude of this song make that irrelevent. :]
omg all of her songs have depth like even the simplest things can like have the most meanin but like im not saying that "soup" has a lot of meanin but all of her songs have great meanin. ^__^
her voice makes shudder in vocal pleasure, silk upon my ears, its so overtly quirky and it works, cause she has a good balance. I adore everything about this gorgeous woman!
ahhh the soup... i wish regina would make me some soup. then sing about it. Because she's beautiful and magical and everything else thats magnificent. She should definately record this and put it on a cd sometime. Soon. It's been too long now Regina. We need more love!
Thank you regina! this is the last song in your 43 song playlist that I just listened to to get through my 8 hour last minute cram for biology.

The lyrics are a bit off.
"The pictures had clear resolution in their mind,"
"Who'd wear the mask and who'd ring the cops."
Everything else was good, sorry, I'm sure really OCD when it comes to lyrics.
