  • I always imagine Discord reading this to the Cutie Mark Crusaders for their bedtime story.

  • John De Lancie: "(reads The Raven till the end).. And now, if you'll excuse me, I have some chaos to wreak."

  • Someone needs to create an animation of Discord reciting this. Someone must make it happen.

  • you can see his eyes moving as if hes reading from.... "Q" cards

  • Comment removed

  • I keep expecting Picard to interrupt and insult him

  • You should see the looks on your faces. Priceless!

  • Q inspired Poe to write Raven

  • Whoa, just whoa.

  • sent by my little pony

  • Qmx... did Q have something to do with the name?

  • I like this one, but for another unique take, search "Raven + Weathers". It's a 40s detective noir read. Great stuff.

  • holy shit I just realized Q has made an appearance in breaking bad.

  • Before, I heard this version, I had thought Vincent Price's "Raven" was the best -- but I think this tops V.P. bigtime. Wow. This is something to listen to, over and over.

  • Discord.. Why are you reading something about the all amazing Poe?

    I-..

  • DAT VOICE.

  • Holy shit, John De Lancie and The Raven. I believe my life is now complete.

  • Hmmn, I've only ever hit replay on songs...until now.

  • 3 people want more.

  • whats mentioned more in the comments of this video? Discord or Q?

  • @xClassicalxOctaviax Both are gods of some sense. So I call them the same.

  • @xClassicalxOctaviax They are both mentioned 24 times.

  • @Riffingtons

an for counting through all the comments, spending who knows how long time reading from intelligent comments to ones that are- "not so intelligent" you get a metaphor internet muffin!

  • @xClassicalxOctaviax Oh, I just used Chrome's search function. It gives a count of whatever you're searching for. The hardest part was sorting out false alarms.

You can't have the muffin back, though. My muffin!

  • @xClassicalxOctaviax Probably Discord.

  • I think he sounds a little bit like Vincent Price and that makes him about 20% cooler.

  • .....Ooops....I spilled my buckets of white goo on the floor...>.>;

  • Wow, just wow. So he is the voice actor for discord? Man listening to this gives me chills, it's like it's discord saying every word. It's quite awesome knowing who he is now! Thank you MLP for introducing me to a great actor and voice actor!

  • Discord

  • I have the weirdest crush on this man's voice

  • @PlasticHearts90 Me, too...

  • i swear to God i was wearing pants and the beggining of this video

  • Now That's it.

  • The shadows that have set me free, what you're ghostly name might be? I'm happy that I know, of Edgar Allen Poe.

    <3 I'll remember Edgar forevermore.

  • John De Lancie is dyslexic. For him to perfectly recite "The Raven" is doubly amazing.

  • I like to pretend that, around Halloween, Q pops out from the shadows quoting this every time Picard turns a corner.

  • Tis some pony, I muttered, clopping at my chamber door.

  • @Rexco33 rofl

  • Q does great voice work too, take that Picard!!!

  • I want John De Lancie to read all my stories...

  • @Sedalb Mine first, mine first. :)

  • I prefer to remember him as Q...

  • Discord sure can speak.

  • To view a great Poe short: Type in

    Oysters & Pearls - A Modern twist on Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart"

    Enjoy!

  • I've seen him play Q and Discord but this is truly some of his finest work!

  • I should also note that I have never wished that my name was Lenore more than I do now.

  • ...gah. He reads this exactly like I do 8D except male and dripping with sex.

Do excuse me; I'll be in my bunk. *downloads*

  • @lilacpilgrim13 "Nevermore"

  • What is all this talk about Discord? Who is that anyway?

  • @Jaikodragon HAven't you seen My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? Everyone is a brony now because it's an awesome show. Me included. :D

  • @Jaikodragon Character from "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." Look it up.

  • @Jaikodragon Lol.....

  • @Jaikodragon If you like Q from Star Trek, you'll like Discord. They're pretty similar when you think about it.

  • Hang on a second, I need to change my pants...

  • Ahhhh John does great great emphasis

  • Listen with your eyes closed and imagine Discord...

  • @calfitz10 I imagine Me sitting in a chair while Discord recites this, as he puts darkness in my head.

  • Ah, if I had his voice...

  • WOW this dude knows the poem..best version ive heard

  • dude he is awesome no wonder why they make him the voice actor of discord

  • dude he is awesome no wonder why they make him the voice actor of discord

  • This is amazing. I was always fond of The Raven, but when I heard it read with such a lively and emotional vocal interpretation I came all over my keyboard. I am now compelled to share this video with all of my group poop friends. Good work, Mr. De Lancie, I didn't know you existed until you voiced Q.

  • This is amazing. I was never fond of The Raven until I heard it read with such a lively and emotional vocal interpretation. I am now compelled to share this video with all my friends. Good work, Mr. De Lancie, as always with your works.

  • wow...

  • I just felt something slither up my spine. I like it.

  • You are amazing sir. Thank you for doing the voice of Discord, for many happy memories watching you as Q (All good things are still the best episodes in all of Trek (IMO), your work on Torchwood. Kudos sir. Kudos!

  • *cums*

  • Really, it is truly amazing how brilliant De Lancie is in conveying the beauty of this poem. I'm usually one to scoff at acting, but after researching a bit on De Lancie and his work, and just the whole field, it's opened up my eyes to how some really use it as beautiful artistry.

He does not over act at all. He really allows the poem to breath on its own through masterful use of his voice. I'm really having a tough time putting into words what I think.

  • Gave me chills man. I love your stuff.

  • If I had his voice, I would never stop talking.

  • When will more of the "QMx Masters Series" be produced?

  • "The Raven", as read by Discord.

  • Ponies brought me here, his performance made me favorite this.

  • His voice penetrates your soul.

  • i would so pay for an audiobook of John De Lancie performing such great works.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you: The White Morgan Freemen.

  • @TheProGamez Except better.

  • the raven!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I can't believe this guy is doing the voice of Discord. So yes, ponies brought me here too. LOL.

  • >expecting ponies

    >expectation fulfilled

    >feelsgoodpony.jpg

  • Someone needs to PMV this

  • Close eyes.

    Imagine discord speaking.

    AWESOME.

  • I'm not going to lie,

    Ponies brought me here.

  • No wings, and no magic. Mwahahaha!

  • Ah such a voice. Such an actor. I'm so pleased he's still getting work and to be Discord of all characters? Oh yes, awesomeness of all things.

Interesting note, a few months ago I ameturishly penned out the ending of "The Raven" re-written to be "The Pony" only involving Pinkamena driving the narrator crazy instead of a raven.

So this is a bit uncanny.

  • @gskaloyan Look up "egophiliac" on deviantART. She made a comic strip based on this very premise.

  • Favorite poem? Definately. John De Lancie reading it? SQUEE!!!!! John De Lancie as the voice of Discord? *insert Rainbow Dash squeal here, then Rarity laugh from the sonic rainboom episode, then another Rainbow Dash squeal, then Rainbow Dash ohmygosh string*

  • Ahh John De Lancie, you are truly great at what you do.

  • This guy reads like FUCK.

  • John De Lancie? Q? Epic? MLP? VOICE OF DISCORD? VOICE.. OF.... DIS.. COR-

    -HHHNNNNGGGHH!

  • Amazing voice! I can't wait for Saturday!!! Discord, you are gonna be boss! <3

  • His voice is prefect for a villain! I didn't want to spoil myself this Saturday so I watched this instead.

  • John De Lancie's voice is perfect for Discord. It's twisted and creepy voice yet very soothing. woooo I can't wait c:

  • Discord is going to ROCK...

  • Voice of Discord? Yes.

  • @AaronFeitelberg No Q was first. Discord is just Q messing with ponies. AND OMG!!! LOVE HIM

  • this brings me such joy!!!! it's exactly how i picture poe's voice!

  • My Mom, brother, and me met John in a lonely hallway at a Star Trek convention back in the 90's when I was a young boy. He was on his way to dinner, trying to sneak past his droves of admiring fans. "Q" was affable and happily took time away from meddling in the affairs of lesser beings to autograph pictures for my brother and me. I'll never forget that! :-)

  • such a perfect voice for this love it

  • John, you are still HOT!

    LOVE THIS!

  • I LOVE THIS BOOK! And I love de Lancie! :D Amazing!

  • Thank you...it means a lot to me for this to be read soo well!

    Kind regards John

  • i thought it was"bend above us" i heard "binds above us"

  • God...Have Q show up on the Enterprise like this and Picard my just kill him (If he can fin a way~ <3)

  • Finally someone reading the poem who sounds like he actually understands it!

  • he should do "Paradise Lost"

  • Wait... did I just lose my virginity?

  • and replace the word Lenore with "Kathryn"

  • They should have a prologue of him as Q

  • What's this poem about?

  • @Larvemannenz001 its about a man whos paranoia is keeping him awake, and eventually ends up driving him mad all in one night with the help of a troublesome raven

  • @rhino2960 But that's a story, I was hoping it would have a metaphoric meaning to it.

  • @Larvemannenz001 Well, maybe there's not an explicit metaphorical meaning, but there's a great deal of melancholic and somewhat metaphysical darkness at play here to be appreciated. A lot of people only know Poe for this fantastic dramatic monologue, but he's actually a rather prolific poet! You might actually really enjoy one of his poems called "The Bells"; his use of verse is just as fascinating, and there's a bit more depth in terms of meaning. You should consider checking it out sometime!

  • @Larvemannenz001 you should read "the philosophy of composition". poe explains there how and why he wrote this poem. it's a short essay, really interesting :3

  • Vigor, passion and qualm, all mashed together to bring this dark poem to life. The best I've heard this piece read by a long way; awesome, 10/10!

  • Fantastic poem of course. I prefer this reading to the others I have seen on youtube. His pace and tormented intonations are fantastically suited to this poem I think

  • One of the greatest poems ever written.

I read a lot of Goethe, Shakespeare, Hesse, Schiller and some other poets,

but no one ever reached the level of this truly singing and crying poem showing us the darkness and exasparation of human in highest levels of rhyme.

  • hmmm...the german is better...^^

  • This guy is supposedly a mega asshole in real life

  • One of the best poems in the English language read by one of the best voices in the American language.

  • That sends shivers down my spine!!

  • That was amazing.

  • Q is so awesome!!!

  • Oh my god, now I love John de Lancie even more O_O

  • his voice. it does very pleasant things to my insides...

  • @Jihime47 took the words right out of my mouth.....

  • @Jihime47 Describe them while I eat my chicken.

  • 3 people are idiots xD

  • This is incredible. Thank you John De Lancie. Thank you QMx. It will not be the last time I watch this, and I eagerly await what comes after.

  • Bravo, John! :)

  • 3 people own talking ravens.

  • I noticed that was Q from his eyes, he is trully masterful with his face. Reading wouldn't be the same without the video to accompany the audio.

  • ...My god, is that Q? xD

  • John De Lancie gets to the heart of this poem. I've listened to many other versions on youtube, but none are as moving as this!

  • Imagine De Lancie reading this in the character of Q. To Picard, right before sending the Enterprise to meet the Borg for the first time.

  • @Lerock It's Q's fault they met the Borg? That asshole!

  • I can't Press the like button any faster right now.

  • I guess 3 people have no taste.

  • @nightpulse 3 people have phobias relating to corvus corax.

  • @Allabaster84 Wow this Video must have scared the pants off of them. They were scared of Ravens before, now they are bloody terrified and frozen to the spot thanks to the brilliant John De Lancie ha

  • John De Lancie thank you for telling me about this in person At MCM. It was the most awesome day ever when i met you (even if i was so in awe that i acted like a bumbling fool at the time). After watching this i think you are even more amazing. You instil so much passion in every word that your whole performance is just enthralling and unforgettable.

    Thank you.

  • im wacthing this for my english class in school. BEST DAY EVAR

  • @MrTruegamingmaster I know right^^

  • I love it

  • He rocks!

    Q for the win :D

  • I have a reading of Poe's "The Raven" by Christopher Lee on a CD. While one might think that might be the definitive interpretation, it's actually this version that's superior. Bravo !

  • Absolutely fantastic!! You ROCK, John D~

  • Hell yes.

  • Christopher Walkens rendition is still better, but this is a close second.

  • I'm so high and this is soooo gooooooooood!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah, de Lancie is a great actor, but he makes a number of obvious blunders with the words in this production. I wonder why he didn't do second takes. Even so, you can't get better than John "Q" de Lancie. Even Vincent Price's version is challenged by this.

  • Oh wow, that was amazing!

  • Did anyone else meet him at the London Expo?

  • Bravo Bravo Indeed! I wish he had done this when I saw him at Dragon*Con. Still awesome though! He should do some more classic literature readings.

  • Comment removed

  • wow.

  • The three unlikes are from Matt Groening, someone who mis-aimed their click and Lenore, who doesn't like to be reminded that she is dead.

  • Very well done indeed save for the couple of mistakes. I bet he was kicking himself after giving such a great performance and then fluffing a couple of lines near the end, but no matter, superb stuff!

  • Chillingly superb!

  • Nice.

  • "Q" was always kinda creepy. lol

  • Sir Patrick Stewart should do this too!

  • Listen to this video in the background, it goes perfectly.

    /watch?v=2eccpEOjJ-k

  • @Sonolumino8939 Superb. :)

    This is a fantastic reading!

  • I'd love to find just an MP3 version for next year's Halloween show. As someone who appreciates good voice work, I'm even more impressed by this than I am of Mr. de Lancie's work I've seen before. Keep in mind, I've always known that the Q episodes were so good because they worked off of the dance of two great actors.
