Yo-Yo Ma recorded a great rendition of it on the album 'Vivaldi's Cello', along with two other cello concertos and some other pieces.

It's fantastic, except that the production really bothers me - the mixer didn't pan the cellos separately, which bothers me because the beauty of the piece is seeing how intricately the cellos parts are connected, and its harder to hear that when they're panned together....

Other than that, though, it sounds superb.

A most enjoyable performance but the third movement gives the impression of running to catch the last train. However I love the use of forte and piano in the orchestra in their interpretation. Well worth the applause.

Watch carefully the use of harmonics at 2:38-2:45. This helps them get to the thumb position at 2:45-2:57. Not a lot of teachers or books have this finger in and I tried it yesterday, it's an awesome fingering. Dig in a little nearer the bridge and you get a pretty nice effect... get some spirocore strings ;)

This fingering is recommended in the edition I have (ed. Starker). I think the effect on the arpeggios is neat, but I think the "ornamented octaves" passage suffers too much unless it is played on the D and A strings (rather than the G and D strings, as in this performance). It's a bit trickier to get it set up, but it's worth the effort since the sound is so much brighter and the effect is far more brilliant.

I have the recording with Anner Bylsma, Christoph Coin, and Il Giardinero Armonico and it seems so slow and lethargic now compared to this video interpretation. I still prefer period instruments, but I would like to hear the period instrument recording move at this clip. The first movement is in 2 with MM58 to the half note. That's really fast, and really beautiful. As a specialist in Baroque Performance Practice, I will have to shift my rigid standards now regarding period instruments.
