i am watching every video i can of him as i am playing John Barrymore in "I hate Hamlet". Im now obsessed with the role....loving it. what a tragic soul. A mercurial star that burned so bright, it burned before the end of night!!! ( i just made that up LOL see, i'm channeling the spirit of Barrymore!!!
Unusual for Barrymore to show his right profile as he always like to have his left [his best side according to him] to the camera, a member of the hell-raising Bundy Drive boys, Errol Flynn, John Decker, Ben Hecht, Sadakitchi Hartman [who, at th outbreak of the 2nd world war was unfortunate enough to have both German and Japanese parentage], W. C. Fields, Anthony Quinn, Gene Fowler, John Carradine and others on the fringe such as Edward . G. Robinson who was unfortunately deemed too serious.
Really sad, this is the year John Barrymore died from drinking himself to death. You can see he is terribly incoherent in this interview. He was 60 years old but had always looked 15-20 years younger than his actual age (Jekyll and Hyde he looked 20's but was in his 40) but because of his drinking he aged horribly. He was the only American actor of his day that was respected for his portrayal as Hamlet in London and the US, a feat that few American actors can't accomplish to this day.

This is tragic. He has absolutely no idea what he's doing, but he's intelligent even when soused. I'm sorry for him.
