Honestly cheat engine, search,art money ,mht is all better then poke. Try using one of these. Cheat engine is probably the best of these.

Wouldn't work; ever since Diablo II, Blizzard has kept (at least in closed mode) player data and such on their servers, as opposed on Diablo I where such was kept on the client, which lead to lots of hacking.

If WoW allowed you to edit your characters in memory, you'd be seeing characters with level equivalent to 2^32, kill-on sight... whatever. Doesn't matter, though the game would be unplayable.

you can also use Cheat Engine, it has a lot of nice features. For example, if you know that your variable is X, and in the next step you only know it's SMALLER than X, then you have a problem in poke. You have to know the exact value. Cheat engine can do that. Cheat engine also searches for float/double, chars, bytes, and a couple more.
