  • I LOVE SMACKER!!!

  • How long did it take you to learn mandarin?

  • What surprises me is this interviewer lady speaking prefect Mandarin. Who is she?

  • I went to Beijing for the first time when I was 15 in late October and I discover all the secret of Long Johns :) and visit a family on the east side of Beijing, and they show me where they store the cabbage! It was a entire room of them - imagine a kid from the South at 15.

  • lol nice socks

  • These questions are really good and professional! Compared with what are asked on CNN and Foxnews...LOL

  • i like smacker, she's really friendly with sufei

  • i love smacker's voice...

  • My question to Smacker is this: in the old days (when I was in China in the 90's, I notice that the relationship between people can be described as "guanxi". Meaning if you want people to do something for you, you try to "la guanxi" (ask for a favor) by exchanging gifts. Is gift exchanging still popular amongst Chinese people? These days when Chinese people want something done, is giving gifts still an affective method?

  • it depends, you know i think it is a tradition for chinese people to exchaging gifts ,you know in china when you visit your friends or relatives we usually bring our gifts .

不过您这翻译ask for a favour好像没有 pull some strings更形象。

  • Say ask smacker five times fast. LOL.

  • the point of my comment is that it 听着怪别扭的 if we say 肯德基州, that's why i think it's funny and that's why they should call it 肯德基州

Il a rien dit de mal!

  • humm..

i cant see any points of asking those stupid questions....

  • because it's real

  • oh già!

  • When I was in Shen Yang last year I put out some Bai Cai(白菜)also but someone stole some of it. I had it hanging outside my door. Still what she said was intresting. I find some Chinese do follow dates when dressing is conserned, I remember everyone was wearing their mou ku and I was walking around outside during November not even wearing a jacket, everyone tough I was a crazy Lao Wai but I just told them that I didnt feel cold that day. They just couldnt understand why.

  • when the the sub is pounds actually its suppose to be kilograms

  • No, Chinese measurement "Jin" was used in the conversation, which is 500 grams (1/2 kg) exactly, which is rather close to one "pound". 800 Jin as in the clip would actually translate to 400 kg exactly.

  • yes a Jin is 500kg, 1kg is call gong jin, 250kg is called ban jin.

  • i think people have already answered this, but ill ask it anyways: why is her name smacker?

  • shut up ur little dirty mouth!!!!

  • i don't like beijing either but this lovely lady makes me love the city bit by bit

  • ni yao gan shui ah?

  • ~~~~~~~keep your legs warm now~~or they are gonna be horribly painful when you getting old..... Although I hate wearing those too.

  • I love China

    chinese people are so cool

    lol

  • Actually when she says "Jie Qi", it is solar terms defined in Chinese lunar calendar that she means. I'm Beijinger BTW

  • Smacker? Then what is her husband name? "Slayer"

  • fuker lol

  • great video clips. from the life of little people, we can see the real life of real people, get better assessments for that society than those big name medias (too political)...

why just beijing? china is so big and sufei can do a lot of more than just in beijing ..

  • yeah, she can go to zhejiang for a visit

  • i am a chinese girl, iam wearing the "long underwear",i can't understand that don't you feel uncomfortebal without it?it can make me feel warm and comfortable, actually,i like it.and i don't think chinese ppl are weaker than foreiner it's just a good way to keep us warm.

  • chinese people definitely are not weaker than foreigners, us foreigners i guess are just too stubborn and dont want to take the time to wear long underwear. not to mention that fashion rules many people's lives, unfortunately and im sure some people see long underwear as "unfashionable"

  • people in other countries wear long underwear, but mostly if they are going to be out all day in very cold weather, like hiking or if they work outdoors. everyone at my house has a couple pair.

  • i own a pair too :P

  • I agree while it's nice to say chinese are weaker than westerners I think it's the other way around imo (i'm a westerner).

  • When I was little, about 10 or 11 years ago,my grandparents used to buy many cabbages in winter.

  • smacker is so cool

  • hahaha smacker =D

  • Awesome, Smacker is the bomb.

  • The heating system in China is different than that in the USA, I think in the US, people use eletricity heating systems ? In China, we use hot water pipes running through the whole buildings.

  • Now! I agree Smacker she knows ever thing.

  • Greeat Show!!!!!!!

    Greatings from Brazil

  • brilliant.simply brilliant. love it.

  • Good job, Smaker and Sufei~!

  • WO AI NI SMACKER!

  • LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SMACKER!!

  • Sufei a 斤 is not a pound. It is a one catty. Please get your units right. Although it is close to a pound, it is not. Be more accurate on your translation please.

  • jin and pound are close enough, so maybe that's why she didnt point it out.

  • Smacker didn't really answer the last question that well.

  • 800 jin=400kg, it does not equal 800 pounds.

  • 400kg is about 800 pounds.. 1kg is about 2.2 pounds

  • Loved the part about the cabbage. hehe. mmmm. Beijing markets!

  • i remember when i was younger my family bought 50kg of chinese cabbage for winter...

  • smacker is awesome :D

  • The whole city has central heating? That's pretty amazing. Too bad it's not like that in the US. People freeze to death here because they can't afford heat.

  • It's true that Beijing has a central heating system. Ironically, people should thank partially to the communism system for that. In recent years, some of the new apartments are changing the policy and are providing heating in winters family by family.

  • what's so ironic about a communist government providing heat? capitalism is more democratic than communism only in YOUR books

  • I guess it's ironic because people tend to think of communism as something that is unthinkably evil, but not considering the pros of it, such as central heating, which helps people more than the capitalist way.

  • @DevilMayCareAboutMe that's probably because you live in the US where the government try their best to condemn communism as pure evil lol. not that iam pro communism in any way...

  • @sonnetxi

Actually, I live in Canada, where it's more socialist than the US (they're calling us "commies from the north" now, ha ha). But no matter where you are, there'll always be ignorant people.

  • @DevilMayCareAboutMe oh i see. well its still not totalitarian like in china

  • Actually, most people who live in one story ping fang (平房) housing still burn coal to heat their homes. Apartment buildings almost all have central heating.

  • Smacker shi wo de zui xihuan de Beijing ren.

SuFei shi Beijing de zui piaoliang de Xiren.

  • Yeah, I love it too. :D

  • hehe, sweet.

  • I love smacker she is so hearty!

  • This series is great and always interesting. Thanks very much.
