  • The smoothe sound of Ray's voice goes perfect with the steel guitar. One of today's best musicians for sure.

  • if this doesn't make you stop everything you're doing and relish... you just don't get it.

  • Based on my highly unscientific observations, this is the best live clip on YT.

  • @mrmattcohn Yes.

  • Great great Song, but it´s so hard to grasp the meaning of the lyrics...is he singing about a lost love ? A lost beloved one ? Can somebody help me, pls. Thx...

  • This song gives me chills and makes me want to weep and laugh with joy at the same time.

    True art.

  • His music cuts straight to your core. Amazing

  • Love this man, and his music. Amazing.

  • and our generation calls lady gage, and katy perry music. no, no, this is music.

  • This guy is simply amazing...Its so refreshing to hear lyrics that someone actually put some thought into. Its sad that crap like "my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard" out sells quality stuff like this.

  • She lifts her skirt up to her knees

    Walks through the garden rows

    With her bare feet laughing

I never learned to count my blessings

    I choose instead to dwell

    In my disasters

I want his babies :) So perfect!

  • Hi guys The background Music is there any other song with that background guitar plssss let me know

  • I think that, this and "Shelter" are the best songs of this genius.

  • Ok... does anyone has already seen Ray Lamontagne and Jesus in the same room ? Anyone ?

  • Who can listen to this and not remember every mistake of his life, and wish the time to go back and fix everything, prevent every tear that dropped on someone's cheek because of him.

  • I have just fallen love...this song is haunted, hallowed and deeply full of emotion. Tears rolling down my cheeks. <3

  • This may just be one of my top ten favorite songs ever written. Ever. Of any era in the history of music. So much meaning and feeling.

  • There are two songs; "She is so beautiful" by Mike Scott, and this one by Ray. I'm not sure but I know that one of them is the most beautiful song I've ever heard.

  • if through my cracked and dusty dime-store lips I spoke these words out loud would no one hear me

  • Great song

  • hes like a modern gordon lightfoot, awesomeness..

  • prime example of fantastic slide guitar playing.. love it

  • Ray Lamontagne, you are amazing. I must have listened to this song hundreds of times, and it never gets old. Incredible!

    P.s Marry me? Thanks.

  • I love the pedal steel! In my opinion it adds so much more than the strings on the album version.

  • I just want to know how the hell there are 22 people that DON'T like this song?

  • Comment removed

  • Channeling Leonard Cohen.

  • Outside the rain is tapping on the leaves. To me it sounds like they're applauding us, the quiet love we've made.

    That's called songwriting

  • @chjeterblows poetry in motion

  • enough autotune bullshit. it was the imperfection that used to give artists their individuality. People love Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and Kurt Cobain. they weren't the greatest singers but what they wrote and sang was from the heart. That's why I love Ray's music. just pure and honest. great lyricism too.

  • Without prozak i cry my a ss of when i hear this song expecially in the wintertime!!

  • Has anyone heard of Pablo Blaqk? He could be Ray's distant relative absolutely wonderful and unique. Im obsessed with his song Find your way as much as I am with Ray. We are blessed.

  • there... have ... never been enough words...

  • Incredible

  • His voice is so different from anything else... He's awesome! Been a fan for years now :]

  • "I never learn to count my blessings, I choose instead to dwell on my disasters". Me too buddy..

  • very good video but I think u guys should check out riley sanderson!!! :) he's awsome one because he's a good singer 2 because he's my brother!!!!!!! :)

  • pedal steel! aaaawww yeahhh

  • I'm in love with his voice..

  • I wrote this exact song in my mind, and Ray just grabbed it from the sky before me.

Every time I hear it, I fall in love and kind of want to die at the same time. True Love.:)

Ray is a legend of our time. *Please stop supporting cover bands when there are so many beautiful original artists out there.

  • So country, so good, so simple yet so deep.....no wonder Robert Redford used parts of this song as finale in his latest movie, played at the end of movie !!!

  • This song is used during the credits of the movie "THE CONSPIRATOR", I had to sit back down for I like Ray's music

  • this song is about a girl named ryan marie you can find her song winter and weeping willow he loves her when he sings this but hes trying to kill her

  • I love his voice!! He could sing the alphabet to me!!

  • best version performed. just beautiful

  • Is this for real? I'm here in Jamaica and felt like I was in the audience being swept away by a myriad of emotions. Like I was in the plucking of each string and the river of notes that ran so freely....

  • TIJANAAAAAAA

  • I hate frogs and people who hate puppies

  • so much soul ... adore his music

  • What's the conspirator about?

  • There's something afoot in this song, some kind of earth-bound polarity shift that's a fury within the tendrils of my soul. It's a longing desire for something I will never have.

  • @4dustinandmary " Yes and some already dead that walk beside me " I hope this song brings you peace.

  • Boring demons can't torment you very well...

  • I can listen to him sing all day long.

    Beautiful song.

  • Ray LaMontagne's songs are like watching movies...the words fly from his lips so softly and gently...you just create a big picture of the song in your head. I love him , his songs, his personality.

  • The lap guitar makes this already hauntingly beautiful song, a million times more beautiful. Incredible

  • Nothing will ever top the lyrics and emotion in this song.

  • It's like hearing someone sing you a good night prayer. Thank you Ray.

  • It was a perfect ending to the movie The Conspirator. Dragenflyblu you described it well.

  • This song sure grabbed me. After watching the thought-provoking movie, The Conspirator and letting it wind down to the credits, I was steered away by the voice and the words of this man whom I've never heard of before. I had to find him immediately. Lo and behold, the man with a gift of words, melody and voice. Rdingo, I absolutely agree with you-it's like listening to a prayer.

  • I want to see him smile.

  • Thanks, it is a Pedal steel guitar...

  • This is an amasing song..It is a such smooth song great performance it get inside without disturbing your soul on the contrary fill it with reflections…. DO some one know what is the instrument the guy with the jacket is playing

  • @leros27

    Pedal steel guitar I think.

  • i found this song on my son's cell phone after he passed away..he mentioned the song to me..BUT I never "took time" to listen! I love you my sweet Dustin...and I know you knew, no matter how selfish I could be.

  • Just AWESOME. never heard anything like that.

  • I let go of this as my favourite song tonight because I'm in a great place....now I can enjoy it more because I let go. Thanks Moira x

  • Omg I love him, he is just so amazing he sounds exactly the same live.

His words cut through right into my soul

  • The setting is just amazing. I love to watch Ray in this BBC session for the music and the setting. Release this as a DVD ! Really love this.

  • people talk bout people like keri hilson being there idols well i think that people like ray are mine who dont fake there voice and put auto tunes on ,, im in love with him x

  • His music and words. . .make me feel......d~

It says unknown performance in the Chicago area. I live close to Chicago, but am not familiar much with the downtown area.

Being Chicago, It is most likely a large venue. How I would love to see him at a smaller, intimate venue. . . His songs . . .read my mind.....d~

  • does anyone no the strumming pattern?

  • I'm in love , no more..

  • Where are all the regular toadish, trolling negative comments on his videos? Says a LOT, no? Pure music.

  • phenomenal.....simply phenomenal....this man's voice is genius, amazing and beautiful!!!! I love ray always have always will!!!!

  • 961,398? How come its only showing my views?!! What a masterpiece....

  • This is my favourite song by Ray... when I heard this live for the first time, I could swear it was just Ray and I in the room... I seriously dont remember much else

  • This song rips the soul right out of my chest... Pure genius

  • If you like this, like Ray.... You HAVE to see him live.

  • also check out Jack Savoretti. His abum 'Harder Than Easy' is a classsic

  • (no homo) IM GAY FOR RAY

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song... I'm REALLY loveing his New stuff that's more Bluesy and fuller arrangements, but this is such a beautiful song. The verse "Lay your blouse across the chair..." is amazing, there is NOBODY out there right now that can touch Ray in terms of his soulfullness and folk stuff. he's SUCH an amazing artist, and I'm really glad to se him doing so well while staying true to his style and not turing into an MTV goon like so many other musicians.

  • what a gorgeous arrangement, really compliments the song and his voice, amazing song x x

  • If i could i would. If i were born in paradise i would be perfect, but i wasent so im not. I see the seeds. I really do, i bring a celestial harp, so hell might hear its calling. You really think democracy is the way? well more fool you. A tyranny in heaven is hell. All sing in accordance. Sin is against nature, and nature against sin. beloved christ. a consolation.

  • ray did not get this kind of emotion and talent from an ape only GOD can create such a rare thing such as what ray has in my opinion

  • I absolutely love his music... It makes me feel so many emotions.

  • eargasm

  • My baby will cry, but as soon as she hears Ray she calms down and goes into such a relaxed state. It only takes 3 seconds of his voice and all is good.

  • Such a wonderful and talented artist! What an inspiration!

  • Great share..thank you!

  • This was a perfect ending to THE CONSPIRATOR

  • ahhh! still cant get over how incredible he is live!!! i want to marry him!!!!

  • @ladydance41 i wanna marry him and im a guy! ok hold up a sec..i have a lil mancrush but im very VERY much hetero....he is great

  • Thank you Ray. Thank you!

  • oh my god. this is amazing.

  • this ol boy is special

  • New favorite artist.

I hear a little bit of Elliot Smith in him maybe?

  • really? there are people who dislike this??? REALLY??? please put new batteries in your hearing aids cuz this is AMAZING

  • I see him last month in London...Amazing Live, he is a genuine performer, great voice & sort of humble, modest, shy gentleman ! What a dude:)

  • The instrumentation is perfect. The peddle steel adds so much.

  • Haunting: A+

  • Rays performance produces an orgasm on my ears!

  • this song makes me sad in a good way.

  • This song just made my cheeks wet, I'm officially blown away by Ray. Works of this quality are so rare-it's so incredible.

  • A fantastic song sung by a fantastic singer, this is pure art.

I am high on this ...

  • These lyrics are mindblowing. I love this song.

  • Ray - PLEASE consider recording something with Sarah Jaffe... her song Clementine is a great representation of her style and work.

  • i can listen to this 10 times a day and I never get bored or lose interest it in!

  • Compare these lyrics to Friday by Rebecca Black.

  • this is a girl's favorite song. she once said that this song relate's to her very well. i missed out on her because of a slip of the hand and an accident i lost her.. this is my only hope in finding her. and yet i wish with my heart that she could find this. i <3 you jenni

  • This guy is Brilliant, how the HELL does he not have more views than these other TROLLS out there?

  • UM ÓTIMO SOM , TIPO UM CLASSICO DO BOM ROCK AND ROLL.

  • For me, this man's music and voice are in rare company. This is the kind of stuff that grabs you by the guts and moves you like an earth shift. It takes you there and then to where she was. Few musicians can do this, it's like listening to a prayer.

  • @rdingo1 i totally agree with everything except the prayer part. God does'nt exist, im sorry

  • @mrjohnzon God may not, but prayers do...well, maybe.

  • @mrjohnzon Some believe that He does exist. :) Like me.

  • @mrjohnzon God does exist brother..... and he loves you very much. Enjoy Ray and the rest of God's creation ;-)

  • @rdingo1 Aleluia brother.praize the Lord

  • @rdingo1, very well said, sir.

  • I honestly start crying before he even sings. It's so moving.. just beautiful.

  • Ray is amazing, I love his voice. His lyrics are so passionate. The lyrics in this tune in particularly potent. His voice is spectacular here. The whole band is immaculate. But please, people, PLEASE can we give some extra special love to Eric Heywood. God Damn, that guy is slick. NO ONE plays the steel like Eric. This shit is so ghostly. If you don't agree, put your headphones on, close your eyes, and listen. His work makes this tune what it is. Brilliant, brother, absolutely brilliant.

  • As someone that grew up on MTV this just blows me away. All those years wasted listening to garbage. How staunchly I defended Metallica proclaiming how they were the best band ever. I feel like an idiot.

He moves on so many level I don't know where to start. This was what music was meant to do. Ray took me somewhere I've never been before and it was the most beautiful place I've ever been. I only see good in others when I hear this.

    BRAVO!

  • One of the most hauntingly beautiful songs i have ever heard. Glad to find this man and his music. There is hope in life and music knowing he is here with that voice his music and soul....

  • Well I looked my demons in the eyes,

laid bare my chest, said "Do your best, destroy me.

You see, I've been to hell and back so many times,

I must admit you kind of bore me."

Those lines hits my soul like nothing else I've heard before.

  • @16wani its funny you mention those lines a friend of mine got them tattooed on his arms after he heard the song no joke

  • @spazdal1 Wow, that's quite a commitment, making a permanent reminder of the song on your body.

Anyway, those are strong, powerful words written by the amazing poet Ray LaMontagne are, and of course, he's a great singer/songwriter, too :-)

  • @16wani My exact thought.. and feeling. my goodness.. this man, is brilliant. if there were words to say.. they would be on the outside of my heart.. but there just isnt any... wow.

  • @newcreation146 Thank you for those kind words, and, yes, he is brilliant.

I live in Norway, and the horrible events on Friday have made me feel, and I guess I speak for a lot of the Norwegian people that we've been to hell and back, so it feels good taking comfort in music and the support from all around.

  • @16wani

Damn! Thats exactly what i feel, but i just couldn't find the words!

  • @nrok777 :-)

  • Saved by Ray....

  • Que c'est bon. quelle voix!!!!!

Pure voice, pure melody, thanks me good friend. ;)

  • First time I heard this after getting the CD, I had to pull over and stop on the shoulder of the road while driving to work!! Just sat their speachless!!!

  • Wow!!! Just love it!!

  • 18 people actually disliked this? Must've had their speakers off..

  • god or human?

  • Amazing most wonderful underrated song writer of this generation. All the crap that floods the music scene and here is this beautifully deep and heart felt music. Seems to be a man with a soul full of pain and joy. He does more than just write and sings music he moves us with his songs. A beautiful soul indeed....

  • @2008zen - Unfortunately that crap music is pushed through by big money bags that want to get their stuff across radio and some tv channels so a large group of people without much care for deep analysis of real musical genius can make their pockets deeper. Dont buy the hype.

  • @denniston85 If anything the American consumer has proven they are bankrupt.

  • amazing..im speechless

  • Greatest song ever!

  • I love how honored he is to an older way of life.

  • I've been to hell and back

    so many times

    I must admit

you kinda bore me....love it!!! LOVE RAY!!!

  • how good is this

  • IN-FUCKING-CREDIBLY-FAN-FUCKING-TAST-EEK

  • This guy whisper sings a lot.

  • I'm a late comer to the party of those who love ray LaMonagne, and as this is one of my favorites, but, oh, what a terrific video! Interesting how Ray accentuates the music - accompanists and all - rather than himself; his self-effacing modesty is reflected in that he puts himself at the part of the semi-circle farther away from the audience. I know of his extreme shyness; but, it seems to be more modesty than shyness. What and artist! Thank you for posting this!

  • love love love.

  • Anyone know where I can get the full session of this?

  • Wow... this song is even more amazing live. Breathtakingly perfect and what lyrics!

  • This song just hits you in the gut, takes your mind, and never gives it back. It's truly incredible. Artists like Ray give me hope for the future of real, raw, gut wrenching music, not this over-processed money scheming "music" out there today. Thank you Ray.

  • may god have mercy on the 17 people who dislike this

  • The lap steel player is Eric Heywood.

    He is a total badass.

    This song is a masterpiece.

    The end.

  • @twostepstrummer1 Thanks very much for the reply, the guy knows that less = more, most of the time.

  • This steel Player is really great too, who is that? does anyone know?

  • Wow, Jim Croce, Jackson Brown,Bob Dylan,Robert Johnson and Sam Cooke (maybe some John R. Cash thrown in) all rolled into 1 talent. I may give up playing music and just be a listener now.

  • my god it's...it's...so unbearably beautiful.

  • He hates being called Jesus btw. I love this song. I wrote a song you guys may like if you like this one called "Wisening"

  • Damn jesus can sing

  • he sounds like a modern day James Taylor.

  • I melt every time when I hear his voice

  • One from the soul.

One who understand the human condition.

  • Divine.

  • Prayers be with you @nikosyoulie don't give up. Your triumph through this could be a blessing to someone else. When all of this is over maybe you could educate other about the disease and teach others how to cope. Just hold on.

  • why would anyone NOT like this !!
