damn i can't watch this, i commute to work almost every weekday (almost 50 mile round trip) in Los Angeles. i already get my fill of lane splitting. i have to fold my mirrors in sometimes because there's a lot of tight spots or else i nick other car's mirror. I do this every day, what's the big deal. As long as you are not travelling too fast as in so fast that if a cage wants to do something stupid like the blue car at 2.00 you can take evasive action it's perfectly safe. I still have all my own skin after 30 years of doing this.
In addition to moderate speeds, i think lane splitting would be safer if it was legal to use the shoulder. In fact, blue line the route emergency vehicles use, and make them double for lane splitting. When so, motorists know where to expect possible overtakers.

I kept hoping one of those vehicles would knock you on your ass. Lanes are designed for one vehicle, not two. Lane splitting is illegal in New Jersey but when traffic is like this I do it anyway. Some people are real dicks, honking and even trying to block my way. One guy leaned out of his truck after trying to block me with it and started foaming at the mouth. Sad. Funny thing is, the closer you get to New York City, the more chill people are about lane splitting. It's accepted in the city and the metropolitan area.
There are no laws on the books for lane splitting. It is not illegal as far as New Jersey Statutes are concerned. However, if you do it and are spotted by a LEO, you will get ticketed for careless or reckless driving. The video was shot on Rt 46 in New Jersey, and in this state people get offended if you pass them. Lane splitting is exponentially more dangerous here because of that. Cagers hate bikes to begin with, pass their BMW's within inches and they will kill you.

You completely take advantage of the law and pass a thousand cars in 7 minutes and then complain when 4 of those cars almost turn in front of you. From your response, I assume (let me know if wrong) you do not ride motorcycles and/or split lanes. Lane splitting is illegal in most states. On the freeways in California the police prefer motorcycles to split lanes to help ease traffic. Where this video was shot (New Jersey) is not illegal but it isn't exactly legal either. They will site you for reckless or careless driving.
Some obviously do it on purpose.. but folks like that truck.. they just fall into what I call the commuter coma. They aren't actively out to hold you up.. but they aren't paying attention to you .. or anything else.. either.

damn i can't watch this, i commute to work almost every weekday (almost 50 mile round trip) in Los Angeles. i already get my fill of lane splitting. i have to fold my mirrors in sometimes because there's a lot of tight spots or else i nick other car's mirror. In addition to moderate speeds, i think lane splitting would be safer if it was legal to use the shoulder. In fact, blue line the route emergency vehicles use, and make them double for lane splitting. When so, motorists know where to expect possible overtakers.

I kept hoping one of those vehicles would knock you on your ass. Lanes are designed for one vehicle, not two. I would never intentionally hit anyone, even an a-hole biker doing what you are doing, but I sure as hell block them from entering my lane every chance I get. As far as I am concerned the lane is mine from white line to white line, so stay out. I love all the bumper stickers and complaints about bikers having equal rights, then they think they can do things like this.

Lane splitting is illegal in New Jersey but when traffic is like this I do it anyway. Some people are real dicks, honking and even trying to block my way. One guy leaned out of his truck after trying to block me with it and started foaming at the mouth. Sad. Funny thing is, the closer you get to New York City, the more chill people are about lane splitting. It's accepted in the city and the metropolitan area.

There are no laws on the books for lane splitting. It is not illegal as far as New Jersey Statutes are concerned. However, if you do it and are spotted by a LEO, you will get ticketed for careless or reckless driving. The video was shot on Rt 46 in New Jersey, and in this state people get offended if you pass them. Lane splitting is exponentially more dangerous here because of that. Cagers hate bikes to begin with, pass their BMW's within inches and they will kill you.

Thus, why should a car driver want lane splitting outlawed?
