I'm sorry 1a1a1a2b, but thats a really mean thing to say. I think this girl is good. And BTW, real talent also includes modesty. Please don't be offended lucymaybarker about what this person said. You have talent. I am inspired! i'm singing this song in my singing lessons too! :)

Woah. Talk about immature. I can't believe what rude people there are here on youtube. Some people just need a good ol talk with a shrink before they can even come on the internet. They're prone to insulting talented people. What a terrible disease you must have.
hello ur really stupid that was my fried if u were smart enough to read through teh other comments...lucy and i are friends now that she knows that it was my friend
So you just posted a comment telling me I'm stupid to prove that you're not rude? Please go back and read what you just wrote me and THEN try to tell me what I replied with was not well deserved.
What I said in my comment still stands. You just proved it to me more. Please think before you write. You're diserving yourself and you're going to get caught up with a bad aftertaste if you keep insulting complete strangers. You've just got to learn to be a bigger person.
I appreciate you taking the time to comment but in future, if you want to criticise please be constructive and explain properly what you're trying to say! :)
Sorry you feel that way, hopefully you'll watch a few more of my videos and realise this was more of a charicature of a character, rather than voice-beautiful singing if you get what I mean!
And everyone's entitled to their own opinion! :) x
Man, this was really good... I am practicing this song with my singing teacher and I am not nearly as good as it as you are... mostly because I don't have great actions and facial expressions which you need for this sort of song. I'm getting there, though. Anyway, great job!
I LOVE IT!!! FABULOUS JOB! I REALLY LIKE YOUR HAIR AT THE BACK! EVEN THOUGH IT'S EXTENSIONS!!!! BUT NEVER MIND FOR THAT, YOU'LL GO ON BROADWAY IN 5 SECOND!! :D I LOVE IT!!!!!
You are very good. I'm going to do Popular for music class. This inspires me and I think I can do it now! Thankyou for posting this video, I believe i can do this song now!
i think your performance is fantastic and i also think you should sing something from grease, i dont know why but i think it would suit your voice! well done anyway!
She has too good a voice for Idol and wouldn't want to end up on a second rate show like America's Got Talent where washed up never were hacks try for their last 15 minutes.
There was a show filmed in Toronto this year where they auditioned for the role of Maria in an upcoming production of The Sound of Music. you would have done well.
Excellent performance, every note was on Par with Kristen's
Donoeoa, Unless you can do what she can, shut up. Though, I hear America's Got Talent is looking.
There was a mic used, but something a sound technician once told me was that Microphones can only amplify what's already there, so you need to be loud in the first place! Haha.
It's all about supporting the voice, and not pushing it to much, and I think that's what creates a big sound!
If you google it there with probably be some more detailed stuff about singing loud! :)
Lucy once again I am going to say that your voice, in my view is excellent. This is a very big part, it can be hammed up! I did feel that you could have made Glinda bigger, but please know your very talented, I am just incredibly picky! Glinda is a high energy part so don't be worried about going over the top! Your accent was fine I thought, but I sometimes feel that you could use your face a little more! Welldone and by no means a weak performance!
Hiya, i just wanted to say i think this was another great performance! everyone leaving messages saying you need singing lessons obviously havent watched any more of your videos where your voice is stronger to see that your voice is amazing! Keep on singing i love your voice wish i could sing like this! xxx
I just like to have as much help as possible and being detailed really helps me pin-point the bits of a song I need to work on!
(Also, I'm not sure if you've seen any of my other videos, but this is about a year and a half old now, and I do have some more recent videos on here!) :) xx
as far as the accent goes, it seemed a little forced and like you were trying to hard. but Glinda can also have a British accent as well, you don't need to give her an american accent.
it seemed amateur because you did not make me believe that you were Glinda. You needed to just become the character. It just seemed like you were acting like a dumb blonde. NO OFFENSE!!!
When I said you needed voice lessons I was not trying to be mean but your voice seemed very childish and glinda is not a child, she is a beautiful witch with more of an operatic voice. I just thought that a teacher might help you with that.
No problem at all, I know your not being mean, you're being honest and that's what I like! :)
In my defence, I was/still am a child (I was 14 in this video) and if you've listened to my more recent videos, I think my voice is maturing now (I'm 16 now!)
Thanks very much for all your help and advice, I really appreciate it and am going to take it on board! :)
you have a really good voice:) i have to say that i like your voice as elphaba better. acting lessons would be a good idea if your going to pursue a career in the theatre buisness. but all in all, good job! :)
I definately aggree with you, my voice is much stronger in my 'Wizard and I' video!
And after watching this back, there are choices I made as an actress that I would defiantely change, and with my home videos, I tend not to be able to express true emotion, as the only audience member is usually my dog! haha.
Thanks ever so much again, I started acting lessons a few months ago and will definately continue with them! :)
i really liked it actually!! ur voice isnt bad, so who cares about the haters..most voice teachers cant sing well for the life of them anyways. it was really good!:)
Should also realize that Elphaba and Glenda are friends at that point. You played her like Elphie was the scum of the earth when she is trying to help her.
Also, your voice is a little off, scratchy too. You might want to practice the high notes.
Sorry for being critical, but I love the musical :/ So I get picky.
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy my performance! The way I played the character was my choice as an actress, I definately agree I could have been more friendly in some places, but I don't believe I was ever directly nasty to her, as in, treating her like 'the scum of the earth'! Maybe you could help by pointing out a few moments you thought this was?
I've also been taking voice lessons for about 6 years now & not sure what you mean by scratchy?
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate the opinion! :)
Your a sweetheart for replying to my mean post D: I am sorry -hugs-
You got the guts to go up there and sing ^^
I think you might be using your 'voice' voice, making it too talky sing. But that is me :/ Trying using more of your diaphram. I am an actress to, as well as a singer, so I can totally see where you are coming from.
As for the 'scum of the earth', it was just the way you where looking at her, the way you shoved her around. But it also might be me.
heyy lucy i just accepted your friend request. your amazing dont listen to what Roofweb has to say. Chin up butter cup! your above that! comment my profile soon! love ya
hi lucy! you would make an exellent galinda in wicked! you are very good at being happy and bubbly and I am so impressed with your presence. i really hope to see you as galinda
You didn't quite interact with the audience as much as I'd hoped. What I mean by that is facing the audience, lots of eye contact, and really bringing them into the song and the scene.
Thanks ever so much, that's a lovely thing to say!
Watching this back, there are a million things I'd do differently, haha, and interacting with the audience would definately be one of them! It's great you've pointed that out. Hopefully if I get the chance to perform this again, I'll be able to take your advice on board! :)
Thanks for the comment! :) In what way did you feel it was dramatic? I think the character of Glinda IS dramatic, so I wonder if it was my actual technique rather than the character that came across dramatic!
Yes i know what your saying about the character thing, Glinda is a dramatic character but i think it was like too smily at times and the gestures you used seemed too exaggerated.
Becuase of the nature of Glinda's character there is a fine line between Dramatic acting and Glinda acting lol.
I looked at your 'The Wizard and I' performace and that is what i think you should have acted like when playing Glinda(eventhough that is Elphaba)
i probably should have mentioned that this video is my favorite performance of yours. I mean, some of your songs you sang better than this one, but performance wise, I loved it. I think you could be a great comedic actress/singer. And also, I didn't mean to insinuate that you didn't sing this song well, if you took it that way, b/c I still think you sang it great.
Ohh... it was for a variety show. Well, still, it was very very good, and great job. Ok I will stop commenting on this video any more because I have about commented 3 times. Opps. =P
Like I said, you did a fantastic job! I have one question though, why wasn't Alphaba green? I'm sure the musical was wonderful anyway because you were a great G(a)linda, but why wasn't she?
It says in the description.. "As it was part of a Variety Show and Wicked was only one section, we didn't have time to paint her! (It's also illegal to imitate without permission!)"
Well im jealous... i sang this song at my school show.. i didnt choose to but i had to sing it for soeone else... and lets just say it wasnt quite as good as that! haha
good luck for the future... sure we will be hearing of you xo
Hey! Thanks ever so much for your comment, it's great that you took the time to construct your comment so well, I really appreciate it.
I tried singing the song in my native accent, but I think as the song is written by an American composer and was originally sung by American artists, the song just seems to work better that way. But that's only my take on it!
I'm 16 now, and I have some more recent videos on my channel :)
thats ok! i'll try and watch some of your other videos sometime...
im guessing you've either just left year 11 or 12?? this might sound a bit random after my last comment, but im only 15, but i sing and perform too. are you thinking of doing musical theatre as a career?
if so, what sort of colleges and stuff have you thought of, because that's what i really want to do, and know of a fair few colleges, but not really about how good they are.......any help?!
No problem, I think people of all ages and experience can offer equal help!
I've just left year 11, finished my exams, hooray! I intend to pursue my love of musical theatre into a career, yes. I'm going to do my A-Levels for the next two years. I'm doing BTEC Performing Arts (equivalent of 2 A-Levels), then A-Levels in Spanish and Travel & Tourism. If you want to do Musical Theatre, I think it's a good idea to have a back-up, so thats why I'm taking some A-Levels that are not to do with MT.
After my A-Levels I'm going to audition for colleges. I want to focus on Musical Theatre, so I'll hopefully be accepted onto a Musical Theatre BA Honours course. They last for 3 years, and you can choose to specialise in Musical Theatre, Dance & Performance or Acting. Not all colleges offer all three so make sure you do some research when applying!
The main musical theatre colleges are Mountview, Guilford and ArtsEd. What do you think you'll want to specialise in? :) xx
well done!! i thought that was very good for someone of your age, and there are only a couple of places where you sound out of breath, but it could very well have been nerves, because it got better as the song progressed.
if you perform this again, dont put on an american accent; if you listen to dianne pilkington, although kristin is a fabulous role model, dianne's probably better if you want someone to base your voice on.
a very good performance too, and well done for the last note!!
Dont let people get you down. This is an amazing performance and for only 14 its so good! Watch this space people i wouldnt be surprised if your watching the next glinda for when shes 20!
I thought it was great, the only problem is you seem out of breath throughout the song. I thought it was funny how the first time you sing the word "popular" you act like elphaba's hair is dirty and you're disgusted, and i liked the way you said "you're welcom". You'e a great performer.
Not sure about this performance. Great voice but your other performances are soo much better! I dont know what it is but I just didnt like this one, but you are still brilliant x
KerryEllisIsElphaba - i suspect your comment is born out of ignorance or jealousy!the girl is 14yrs old singing and acting this live and 99% of her vocals are in key and as other performers (which you clearly are not)have stated this song is hard enough to just sing let alone perform and sing on a stage live! Get a cheap dvd recorder stand in front of it, Sing and then post it on YT and request constructive critisism or take the 2nd option hide behind a user name and profile that makes u anon!
Why are you still commenting on my video?! You sent your first rude and ignorant comment THREE MONTHS AGO. Stop watching if I'm so terrible and apalling at singing!
Since then, you and your FRIEND (or I'm guessing, other account) 'mylovelasts' have posted over TEN TIMES on this video.
Stop being so abusive. Your behaviour is dangerously close to being deemed as bullying.
Lilykinz39: Thanks for commenting, but in future, if you wish to comment on my videos with critisism, please remember to make it constructive and please don't patronise me! :)
You have great voice! But, I don't think Glinda was so rough and cold to Elphaba. Just a little advice for next time (because there definitely will be a next time)
Thanks very much for your lovely comment, the song was pretty new to me at the time and looking back I can see that my portrayal needed more development.
Hopefully I will perform it again in the future! :) xx

Hiya, i just wanted to say i think this was another great performance! everyone leaving messages saying you need singing lessons obviously havent watched any more of your videos where your voice is stronger to see that your voice is amazing! Keep on singing i love your voice wish i could sing like this! xxx
BeckyLovesLucas 3 years ago
you would make a brilliant elphaba, but i just don't think you would be suited to glinda very well...
fjays 3 years ago
everything about you is very "average"
buttermymuffinplease 3 years ago
Hey! I'm very sorry you feel that way! Have you seen any of my other videos to compare?, as I think this is definately one of my weaker performances!
lucymaybarker 3 years ago
overall, it was really good
but it came off as a bit amateur
I think that you would really benefit from some voice lessons
I have taken them for 6 months. I learned a lot of techniques.
A teacher could probably help you with you american accent too.
btw, this is not to be mean. I really just want to help
stefunny93 3 years ago
Hey! Thanks very much for commenting!
It's great to hear different views and opinions as it helps me get better, but what was it that made the performance come off as ameteur?
I'd also love it if you could point out what it is that makes you suggest voice lessons, as I've been having lessons for about 3 or 4 years now! :S
American accent has always come quite naturally to me too, so is it just a couple of words you felt were not correct or the whole accent?
lucymaybarker 3 years ago
Lol, really sorry for the million questions!
I just like to have as much help as possible and being detailed really helps me pin-point the bits of a song I need to work on!
(Also, I'm not sure if you've seen any of my other videos, but this is about a year and a half old now, and I do have some more recent videos on here!) :) xx
lucymaybarker 3 years ago
as far as the accent goes, it seemed a little forced and like you were trying to hard. but Glinda can also have a British accent as well, you don't need to give her an american accent.
it seemed amateur because you did not make me believe that you were Glinda. You needed to just become the character. It just seemed like you were acting like a dumb blonde. NO OFFENSE!!!
stefunny93 3 years ago
When I said you needed voice lessons I was not trying to be mean but your voice seemed very childish and glinda is not a child, she is a beautiful witch with more of an operatic voice. I just thought that a teacher might help you with that.
stefunny93 3 years ago
No problem at all, I know your not being mean, you're being honest and that's what I like! :)
In my defence, I was/still am a child (I was 14 in this video) and if you've listened to my more recent videos, I think my voice is maturing now (I'm 16 now!)
Thanks very much for all your help and advice, I really appreciate it and am going to take it on board! :)

I have watched your other videos
they are amazing
especially Beautiful Disaster and The Wizard and I
I really enjoyed watching them
I can't wait to see more!!
stefunny93 3 years ago
you have a really good voice:) i have to say that i like your voice as elphaba better. acting lessons would be a good idea if your going to pursue a career in the theatre buisness. but all in all, good job! :)
dancingthroughlife94 3 years ago
Hey! Thanks very much for commenting!

i really liked it!
honestly i bet all the haters cant sing it half as good as you did.
broadwaybaby194 3 years ago
i really liked it actually!! ur voice isnt bad, so who cares about the haters..most voice teachers cant sing well for the life of them anyways. it was really good!:)
frendsrkool 3 years ago
...Okay I am just saying this now.
You need some voice lessons.
Should also realize that Elphaba and Glenda are friends at that point. You played her like Elphie was the scum of the earth when she is trying to help her.
Also, your voice is a little off, scratchy too. You might want to practice the high notes.
Sorry for being critical, but I love the musical :/ So I get picky.
cupidxxrawr 3 years ago
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy my performance! The way I played the character was my choice as an actress, I definately agree I could have been more friendly in some places, but I don't believe I was ever directly nasty to her, as in, treating her like 'the scum of the earth'! Maybe you could help by pointing out a few moments you thought this was?
I've also been taking voice lessons for about 6 years now & not sure what you mean by scratchy?
Thanks for your comment, I appreciate the opinion! :)
lucymaybarker 3 years ago
Your a sweetheart for replying to my mean post D: I am sorry -hugs-
You got the guts to go up there and sing ^^
I think you might be using your 'voice' voice, making it too talky sing. But that is me :/ Trying using more of your diaphram. I am an actress to, as well as a singer, so I can totally see where you are coming from.
As for the 'scum of the earth', it was just the way you where looking at her, the way you shoved her around. But it also might be me.
Keep up the good work ^^

you have great stage presence. this song compliments your voice very well, too :D

wsup. im not really into people being crazed by popularity but i must admit that was good.
vampirewitch87 3 years ago
The best I've seen so far. Simply fantastic.
You didn't quite interact with the audience as much as I'd hoped. What I mean by that is facing the audience, lots of eye contact, and really bringing them into the song and the scene.
Make sense?
:D
RhiFooshwah 3 years ago
Thanks ever so much, that's a lovely thing to say!
Watching this back, there are a million things I'd do differently, haha, and interacting with the audience would definately be one of them! It's great you've pointed that out. Hopefully if I get the chance to perform this again, I'll be able to take your advice on board! :)
Thanks again! :) xx

no afence but lucy you over did alittle to much
cheyrgirl96 3 years ago
No offence taken! What gave you the feeling that I overdid it? And was it the acting or the voice?
I appreciate you commenting in my performance as I rely on people's comments to help me perform better! :)
lucymaybarker 3 years ago
I think your voice is a big talent but you could work on your acting, bit dramatic...
HKE4 3 years ago
Thanks for the comment! :) In what way did you feel it was dramatic? I think the character of Glinda IS dramatic, so I wonder if it was my actual technique rather than the character that came across dramatic!
What do you think? :) x
lucymaybarker 3 years ago
Yes i know what your saying about the character thing, Glinda is a dramatic character but i think it was like too smily at times and the gestures you used seemed too exaggerated.
Becuase of the nature of Glinda's character there is a fine line between Dramatic acting and Glinda acting lol.
I looked at your 'The Wizard and I' performace and that is what i think you should have acted like when playing Glinda(eventhough that is Elphaba)
Hope all this helps
If you got an more question msg me :)

i probably should have mentioned that this video is my favorite performance of yours. I mean, some of your songs you sang better than this one, but performance wise, I loved it. I think you could be a great comedic actress/singer. And also, I didn't mean to insinuate that you didn't sing this song well, if you took it that way, b/c I still think you sang it great.

Like I said, you did a fantastic job! I have one question though, why wasn't Alphaba green? I'm sure the musical was wonderful anyway because you were a great G(a)linda, but why wasn't she?
DavidCookLuver02 3 years ago
Hey! Thanks for your comment :)
It says in the description.. "As it was part of a Variety Show and Wicked was only one section, we didn't have time to paint her! (It's also illegal to imitate without permission!)"
:o) xx

Well im jealous... i sang this song at my school show.. i didnt choose to but i had to sing it for soeone else... and lets just say it wasnt quite as good as that! haha

i1love2me3 3 years ago
Thanks again for such a lovely comment! :o) xxx
lucymaybarker 3 years ago
thats ok! i'll try and watch some of your other videos sometime...
im guessing you've either just left year 11 or 12?? this might sound a bit random after my last comment, but im only 15, but i sing and perform too. are you thinking of doing musical theatre as a career?
if so, what sort of colleges and stuff have you thought of, because that's what i really want to do, and know of a fair few colleges, but not really about how good they are.......any help?!
xxx
i1love2me3 3 years ago
No problem, I think people of all ages and experience can offer equal help!
I've just left year 11, finished my exams, hooray! I intend to pursue my love of musical theatre into a career, yes. I'm going to do my A-Levels for the next two years. I'm doing BTEC Performing Arts (equivalent of 2 A-Levels), then A-Levels in Spanish and Travel & Tourism. If you want to do Musical Theatre, I think it's a good idea to have a back-up, so thats why I'm taking some A-Levels that are not to do with MT.
lucymaybarker 3 years ago
After my A-Levels I'm going to audition for colleges. I want to focus on Musical Theatre, so I'll hopefully be accepted onto a Musical Theatre BA Honours course. They last for 3 years, and you can choose to specialise in Musical Theatre, Dance & Performance or Acting. Not all colleges offer all three so make sure you do some research when applying!
The main musical theatre colleges are Mountview, Guilford and ArtsEd. What do you think you'll want to specialise in? :) xx
lucymaybarker 3 years ago
well done!! i thought that was very good for someone of your age, and there are only a couple of places where you sound out of breath, but it could very well have been nerves, because it got better as the song progressed.
if you perform this again, dont put on an american accent; if you listen to dianne pilkington, although kristin is a fabulous role model, dianne's probably better if you want someone to base your voice on.
a very good performance too, and well done for the last note!!
i1love2me3 3 years ago
Dont let people get you down. This is an amazing performance and for only 14 its so good! Watch this space people i wouldnt be surprised if your watching the next glinda for when shes 20!
igloonit77 3 years ago 2
I thought it was great, the only problem is you seem out of breath throughout the song. I thought it was funny how the first time you sing the word "popular" you act like elphaba's hair is dirty and you're disgusted, and i liked the way you said "you're welcom". You'e a great performer.
denimchiq87 3 years ago
wow, i love this song, and ur really gud at it. thats the funniest performance iv seen so far.
did u say u were from lincolnshire, im from lincolnshire aswell. we did the wizard of oz last year, and none of the cast were as gud as u.

KerryEllisIsElphaba 3 years ago

You have great voice! But, I don't think Glinda was so rough and cold to Elphaba. Just a little advice for next time (because there definitely will be a next time)

Thanks very much for your lovely comment, the song was pretty new to me at the time and looking back I can see that my portrayal needed more development.
