In England we only get 18in sparklers,we don't get massive 50cm and 90cm ones like the states do,Why? If these were allowed in England, they would be labelled as Category 3 Non Hand-Held Display Firework Sparklers which is wrong. I've held the massive 50cm and 90cm sparklers in the USA and if you're careful they are quite safe to hold.

if they put iron oxide and aluminum, you would get thermite and even better sparks. And even if you could find barium nitrate, it probably wouldnt be very cost efective.

@HGClark It's the ingredient mix for thermite (aluminum and iron III oxide, aka rust), plus a few other additives to bind it to the rod. Anybody with an internet connection could tell you that.

@HGClark yeah I guess if you have access to the materials needed to build these, you already know how it's made.. especially nukes... and the access to these things is restricted at the respective point of sale. How would a kid get tons of steel for a tank? or the fine mechanics of a machine gun? :-P it's ok to know how things are done.. as a kid you don't have access to the materials, and as an adult you should have the responsibility to not build something dangerous without precautions :)

@HGClark actualy barium nitrate is expensive. I'm sure you have limits to purchase boric acid. powdering large amounts of iron and aluminium are time consuming. so you may need LOTS of money and time to make a "dangerous" amount of sparklers
