Well my hair isn't wiry although some black people's hair is. Shampoo dries out my hair and most curly people's hair too..even caucasians. Thats why i only use it once a week..but i do use conditioner everyday and most conditioners have surfactants in them that also cleans as it moisturize....plus my hair doesn't get really oily anyways. :)

What kind of headbands do you recommend for boys with long hair? For my son, I don't want to use large rubber bands like my cousins do for their locs but I also don't want to use the different color ones I have for my daughters because they are too girly. Thanks in advance.

I think the wide headbands are the best. The rubber band ones in my opinion, will pull out his hair..the ones i use come in different colors but they are like the sporty kind..like if you go to google and type in "sports headbands" and click on images the first one you see, with all the different colors...are the kind I use. They are wide and think enough to hold my hair down and they don't slip either...I have all different colors..even loud pink and green...I like a little color lol.

Thanks for commenting. I don't know i could be much help to you since I've never had a relaxer or had to do a big chop. And my hair was never really tightly kinky to begin with. I've always had more of a looser curl naturally. But my best guess would be detangling with a brush and conditioner might help. My hair gets all fro-ish if i use a comb..but brushing separates and defines my curls. So maybe if you tried brush detangling instead of using a comb or your fingers if that's what you use. :)

Thank you!!! And you never know it might be..like when my hair was shorter it was just wavy...then all over a sudden...the longer it got the curly it got and I was like "What the heck am i suppose to do with this?!?!" lol.

But yeah my mom would never let my sister relax her hair. She hot combed her hair from age 9-13 and then my sister learned how to flat iron her hair at 14. She looked like Rudy Huxtable when she didn't hot comb her hair lol...big, thick, poofy, wavy hair lol.
