There's such a poetic innocence to this piece. I don't understand exactly what it is or how I'm supposed to react to it, I guess it's just WKW's subtlety but whenever I watch this every ounce of tension in me simply gone. It's wonderful :)

@Th3Z0ne i rememeber when i saw My blueberry nights. i cried through the movie because it was so lost, so far away from what i loved about his movies the most... i was feeling just like he betrayed himself. he should have never worked for anyone else but on his own. you can guess he did this because of combination of music and slow motions and all the typique ways he does movies. bud it's all just half done..how could he make this after In the mood for love, one of my most favourite movies ever.

I am doing workshops on domestic violence and I want this piece as the lead in. So much is said with so few words. I've seen this many times and it still brings me to tears everytime.

@elevenjim: Yes, this short film is a good example. It captures so many small, telling details in such a short time. Especially the part where Rourke's character talks about "infidelity". It's typical of abusive spouses to talk as if they were the aggrieved party. It's particularly creepy how Whitaker's character recounts how the man is. ("So beautiful one way...and such a jerk...'How could you do dat to me, man?' He could be like that.")

It's just a signature pattern of behavior in abusive people that I'm personally familiar with (but thankfully, don't have to deal with anymore).That's why I was impressed with the film's details. A man who talks to you extensively about the "painful infidelity" of his partner, without a sign of pain, while continually preening in a mirror, is usually self-absorbed and abusive.

I have the DVD and in listening to the commentary, you learn that the directors have virtually 100% control over the film albeit with the boundaries that BMW set (show off our cars, being an obvious one). The BMW short film with Madonna, Guy Ritchie basically had to explain why he would "sell out" and do such a movie.. and he said it's because he had total control over the final product.
