I didn't find out till recently (5 years ago) that my bio-dad was of puerto rican descent. I was adopted after i was born, and I was raised with my maternal family who is black. I've since become pretty darn proud of being of mixed. When I'm around my family, I have to identify as black (it was a closed adoption, so i secretly contacted my bio-mom), but when in public I identify as mixed (b/c Puerto Ricans are a mixture of different races). I want to know more about my heritage.

Mixrace people are usually brown skinned, which means they are the same colour as black people who are actually dark brown. So black people and mixrace people are the same colour as each other with different complextions, or skin tones. I didn't find out till recently (5 years ago) that my bio-dad was of puerto rican descent. I was adopted after i was born, and I was raised with my maternal family who is black. I've since become pretty darn proud of being of mixed. When I'm around my family, I have to identify as black (it was a closed adoption, so i secretly contacted my bio-mom), but when in public I identify as mixed (b/c Puerto Ricans are a mixture of different races). I want to know more about my heritage.

I'm mixrace myself , and I think that people forget that the word mixrace is a terminology to describe ones identity not the colour. Mixrace people are usually brown skinned, which means they are the same colour as black people who are actually dark brown. So black people and mixrace people are the same colour as each other with different complextions, or skin tones. Black people have a history of accepting mixrace people more than white people who Segregated them in South Africa, & the USA

I say I'm white because that's what I look mostly of--also, since I have light colored eyes and light skin. Living in Texas, I've assumed to be most my life because of my skin tone. I think the reason most bi-racial people (part black and part white) identify themselves as black goes back to JIM CROW (American Aparthied) days. Regardless of the fact that one of your parents were white, this didn't mean you get to drink from the "White Only and Colored Only" water fountains. Being half white and half black meant ZERO. @MISSMADLIZ87 ok u are mis understanding me. i kno how sacred the black woman is, that is why i said what i said. i just go about things a different way from you. stop attacking me because im on your side! i know everything u say is true. how will hybrids be destroyed? the only way i can think is by mixed people making sure their children have less of the hybrid gene.......? dont know u tell me?
