  • Why this fight wasn't named the Fight of the Year for 1980 I'll never know

  • This is what Pacquiao vs Mayweather would look like, except Floyd will be running and trying to counter punch. Pac will throw punches in bunches and win by decision

  • @davestheman4janice No. This is not what Mayweather and Pacquiao would look like. Duran had much better defense and effective aggression than Pacquiao who seems to charge in blindly. Duran was more well rounded than Manny. Sugary Ray and Floyd have one thing in common and that's speed. Besides that Mayweather is much less aggressive and his defense is better than Ray Leonard's. You're comparison is very naive.

  • @davestheman4janice I think you need to STFU. Pacquiao is no Duran. Never will be. Mayweather would dispose of him.

Don't even try comparing this fight, to that.

  • fred5399 ,,,,,ive had fistfights with 2 negro fighters in my streetfighting career,,,both negros tasted my left hook and were dropped like a sack of potatos,,,,,by the way i do not use the term negro in a racist manner,,,its just a historical description of proud american slaves from africa,,i find the word colored offensive,,or coon,,jungle bunny etc,,,but not negro,,the word negro was included in the 2010 census and surprisingly many african americans checked that box negro, probably older ones

  • This 2 round is much more all Pacquiao and Marquez did in 12 round.... unacceptable how new-generation boxer earn such amount of money without fight

  • I remember watching this fight as a kid in a room full of my dad's friends and everybody chanting Du-ran! Du-ran! A moment I'll never forget.

  • Probably Duran's best performance and the highlight of his career.

  • @jason60152 LOL Roberto Durán would kill Antonio Tarver back in the day. You haven't answered my question, what has Tarver done since beating Roy Jones Jr? The boxing world will forget about Tarver since is a one hit wonder like Buster Douglas. Do you here people talk about Douglas other than the fact he knocked out Mike Tyson? Get a fucking life TROLL. Durán widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time. Tarver is just a one hit wonder like Vanilla Ice LOL.

  • @Boxing2Die4 - Tarver is a light-heavyweight. Has Duran ever fought at light-heavyweight?

  • Comment removed

  • @Boxing2Die4 - Duran did indeed fight at that weight and he was absolutely useless at both light-heavyweight and supermiddleweight.

Duran is a mile ahead of Tarver, pound for pound, but he wouldn't beat him at light-heavyweight, that's for sure.

  • This has to be one of my favorite fights of all time. Love it when nails Leonard and hurts him. I'm tired of people trying to take or diminish what Duran accomplished here. He did what he had to do to win the fight. For those who make excuses for Leonard's loss, then I'll make excuses for Duran's quitting in the 2nd fight.

  • Most biased announcers ever, with exception of HBO calling Chavez Taylor I.

  • @CeaselessGrief Whoever said Duran is overrated, is just sore boxing fan and wants to suck the sweat off Leonard's nut sack.

  • duran outboxed this clown nigger and whoop his ass.

Duran is the best of all time

  • @EverydayNormalDude just too bad he got he got clowned on and humiliated in the 2nd fight. And when he came home from that fight, they destroyed his house in panama and wrote coward on his walls. That Nigger shitted all over Durans feelings.

  • Leonard used to adapt to what style? He was always demanding things in his favor. In this fight he forgot to demand a bigger ring. There is only one man, Duran all the way. Duran at his best and well trained just unbeatable! Leonard kept on hugging the whole fight trying to stay alive. Duran a much better boxer.

  • Comment removed

  • why do negro fighters hold so much,,,ali,,mayweather, leonard,,,jab grab and hold,,,why dont the referees enforce excessive holding point decuctions,,,after this fight duran complained to howard cosell on wide world of sports,,,,,he held my like a spider the whole fight

  • @nastylefthook1 How many negro fighters have you fought?

  • I really don't think this fight was that close, sugar ray fought courageously but Duran kicked his ass, if your gonna stand flat footed and trade with duran your gonna lose. I really think duran just dominated and everyone else just has sentiment for a young ray leonord. your boy lost this one....it was a learning experience for him now get over it

  • @Ricky42791 - he certainly learned and came back and whooped him twice. So get over it, it's over. Sugar Ray Dominates, period.

  • Duran's face always reminds me of a Latino Dracula mixed with Planet of the apes.

  • in burt sugars book ali didn't make the top ten duran was no.5 !

  • hats off to ray for taking a beast like duran at the age of 24..that shit doesnt happen in todays boxing..this why these men are great! straight throwback mentality

  • by 'underrated' I think the truth is, as a guy from Panama, he was not well known in the U/S. even after this fight, he just didn't get the press. and he didn't speak English. for real fans, he was never under rated.

  • they were both greats

leonard was the better boxer but duran was a warrior

personally i rate leonard higher he was a great boxer who was able to adapt his style according to opponent a fighter who used psychology a well ring craft to win matches but i also love duran hard as nail one of the toughest fighter ever

  • @MrIlovethisshow The fact that Leonard had to use dirty tactics to "defeat" Duran is rather telling, don't you think? It's not like he even put the guy down in the second fight either.

  • @KnightOneDark Duran didnt use "dirty tactics" in the leadup to the first fight?

  • @REVENGEANCE206 Not that I'm aware of, but my knowledge is limited.

  • duran invented the word machismo in boxing even to mucho machismo lead you to no mas. but duran was the best latino fighter in the world

  • duran= speed,crazy power,chin,perfect aggression and i.q. perfect lightweight

  • duran surely the greatest 135lber ever..he looked like teen wolf.

  • @Ronz93 he looks like che!!!

  • @Ronz93 your mom

  • SRL is not a fighter, when he tried to fight he lost. He was a runner just like Mayweather. I hate runners, stand and fight. Guys with weak chins run.

  • @davestheman4janice thannk god your a nobody about boxing then. Yeh stand there and take a punch. roftl. Thats a dumb fucking critic for you.

  • @davestheman4janice You're right, but he could damn sure box and I believe the sport is called boxing, not fighting..

  • @davestheman4janice Fuck yeah, that's juss so antithetical to the latino style in the boxing world.

  • @davestheman4janice You don't know what your talking about. You got diarrhea of the mouth. Watch more Leonard fights, Benitez, Hearns, Lalonde - LHW. Tell me then if you see a runner. Mayweather isn't called the best defensive fighter in boxing by running. If you don't like black fighters. Don't watch them.

  • Duran was a great matchup for Leonard and would have beat him the 2nd time too if he hadn't have been an idiot and bloated up after the weigh-in. He totally blew it.

  • deltok chavez said in an interview about latino fighters that duran was one person he would not like to fight. i am not making that up.

  • excellent quality considering how old it is! thnx 4 the upload

  • LEONARD IS HOLDING ON TOO HARD!!!!!!!! JAJAJAJAJJAJA

  • @rickyp4ever Leonard is a coward

  • thank fighters like these who made boxing to be a great sport. Back then there was never any bullshit like Mayweather Jr who won't fight pacquiao.

  • Great, great fight!!! Absolute all time greats matched at their peaks. Love it at 8:32 when the overwhelmed commentator shouts " WHAT A FIGHT!!"

  • Blame SRL for Duran being out of shape. How is that Rays fault? Many rematches in the 70s and early 80s happen within 6 months.

Roy Jones and Tarver rematched within 5 to 6 months. It should be no biggie

2nd fight...Ray boxed 7 rounds....Towards the end of the 8th he was starting to put on the whippin on Duran.....Ray starts off boxing in a lot of fights, but then once he starts finding the target he begins to open up which he was starting to do.

    Then Duran quits

  • Just before Duran quit...Ray nailed him with a big right hand..Duran charges...Ray lands 3 straight jabs and a hook..

Ray is beginning to find the range and fight more flat footed. Just this time instead of fighting extremely close range which is Durans style...Ray was starting to use his reach, but still fight close....end of the 8th round....2nd fight...WATCH IT

Ray was not gonna box on his toes all fight. He was starting to let his hands go

  • 8th round of the second fight...Ray begind to fight flat footed but here is the difference. He figured out how to fight close, but use his reach and quick feet. Ppl talk about him running. 8th round towards the end, Ray was beginning to nail Duran and Ray's confidence was building. Had that fight continued Duran would have got a beatdown.

Ray boxed for 7 rounds...Watch the 8th....Towards the end. Ray is beginning to let his hands go.

  • Oh please Ray was never close to getting knocked out. He was stunned in the second round. Thats part of boxing Clinching and holding is also part of boxing and inside fighting. Not necessarily being hurt. Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis held Mike Tyson on the inside, got seperation and hit him with combos. It's a strategy. Hold the opponents arm on the inside, get seperation and combo or counter.

Once Ray figured out how to get proper seperation he almost pulled out that first fight.,

  • Ray was ripping Duran's body up second half of the fight. Also just because you get someone on the roped doesn't mean your winning. 2nd half of the fight Duran isn't even landing. Ray is landing body shots, and Duran started tiring, but still coming forward.

2nd fight...ppl say Ray ran. 8th round i saw a fighter that was beginning to open just before Duran quit. Ray was starting to stand flat footed, but this time use his legs to keep that proper separation.

  • @bscottdp RD did not win by 1point, Duran won by 3 points. a judge saw RD winning by 2 points and the other by 1, Now SRL got a lot of help by the REF. who saved him from a knock out at least 3 times by allowing SRL to hold for at least 12 sec. when he was hurt. allowed him to hold the whole fight withour a single warning, hang on RD´s neck to wear him out RD. Pacheko saw SRL winning, Well the judges saw RD winning AND all 50,000 people in the arena who booed a 147 to 147 draw deccision.

  • @rickyp4ever Excellent points about Duran winning covincingly and Leonard not being warned once by the referee for holding. A particularly bad instance of Leonard holding was in 14th round when SRL held Duran behind the neck, his head held down for a significant time when Leonard used an illegal 'bolo' punch. Oddly, Pacheco said that this was a "rarely seen, Kid Gavilan type punch"; in reality, it was holding and hitting.

A foul which neither the referee nor commentators noted!

  • Why do ppl keep saying Duran kicked Rays ass and 2nd fight Ray waited until Duran was out of shape. The first fight Duran won by only 1 point and Pachecko the announcer had Ray winning the fight. He as well as me had it even after round 14. Ray won the 15th.

Duran started off the fight strong, and Ray finished strong. One thing that Ray figured iut was how to get seperation later in the fight to get his shots off. Also what the judges saw, and what fans didnt see was Ray landing body shots

  • @bscottdp Not only SRL demanded a quick re-match when RD was 190 pounds, he also requested a 21 x 21 ring, obviously this nasty tactic was not to fight flat footed, so stop saying that he was ready to knock RD out, see the fight, he was running and running like a theft. And remember SRL showed after 22 rounds that he did not have the power to hurt RD. Of course if you don´t know boxing you will believe RD was hurt when the biased commentators shouted that like 20 times. RD nat 135, SRL nat 147

  • @bscottdp After the fight, SRLhad blood drained from his swollen ears and on the flight home, from Montreal to Airport near D.C., Leonard's physician insisted on emergency landing at Hershey, PA.for hospitilization for SRL. SRL was badly swollen, in severe pain and his Dr. suspected more internal bleeding. The Balto. Evening Sun ran photo of SRL leaving hospital. He was unrecognizable! The caption read: "Who is this man & did a stick of dynamite explode in his face?" SRL was beaten badly!

  • @CeaselessGrief I think Duran's boxing skill was underrated. People usually look at him as a brawler but he had incredible defense also.

  • @Midnightrambler3760 thats true carlos palomino said duran was the 2nd best defensive fighter he had fought behind benitez who was amazing in his prime, as a lightweight duran mainly pressured and slipped punches looking to land his rights and lefts in close then tie the guy up so nothing came back, as he got heavier he tried jabbing and moving a bit more and showed he was actually a natural technician aswell as a tough brawler..

  • SRL=Sugar Runing Leonard yup once he asked to be payed by the mile in a boxing / track meetmatch.Good runner not a good boxer

  • duran is scary who else agreess

  • durran is one of the best welterweights of all time. such an exciting ferocious fighter, but away from the ring now he seems like a true gent. legend in my eyes. as were sugar ray leonard, marvin hagler and tommy hearns. this era, i wish i was born back then

  • Roberto Duran, the only champion to ever quit in the middle of a mult -imillion dollar championship fight. The worst performance in history...

  • @kad936 I used to think SRL was great when I saw him as a kid. Now I'm older I can see that all he did was really make a mockery out of the sport. Had he boxed with just a little less flashiness he may have been more universally accepted as a great. SRL did similar with Hagler, lots of running with a few flashy combinations at the right time.

  • The excitement at this fight hasn't ever been equaled. Pac and Floyd could get there but they don't have the jewels to do it

  • probably the greatest performance of Duran's career.....

  • Leonard fought Duran's fight the first time and almost won. When Leonard fought his fight he made him look silly.

  • @chimpee1004 Thars crap Leonard was the 1 who looked foolish running around the ring making faces and everyone including RL knows Duran was not in shape for this match.Y do you think Leonard didn't give Duran a 3rd match cause he knew Duran would train like an animal and kick his ass again.

  • @72768487912002 Your duran got fucked up get over it chimp lol lol

  • @bertelliish ya your right Leonard gave Duran a savage beating in the rematch running and making faces had Duran on the verge of going a few times.

  • @72768487912002 Funny you should mention that because they actually did have a third fight. Wanna guess who won? I'll give you a hint: It starts with Sugar, ends with Leonard, and has a Ray somewhere in the middle. By the way, it was a unanimous decision.

  • @chimpee1004 funny thing your not mentioning is Leonard only gave him that 3rd match 9 years later.

  • Love watching Duran he was like a caged animal.I wouldn't have wanted to be SRL on this night.

  • DURAN WON THE FIRST FIGHT , HE WAS NOT MOTIVATED AND TRAINED THE SECOND FIGHT. the first meeting counts

  • @whackyronu first meeting counts? r u retarded lol

  • Duran=the BEST!!!!

  • @37terraplane yeah the best quitter lol lol lol

  • now lookin at the vid, seems there was more dancin n jabbin then i remembered, wanna see FIGHTING watch anything with lamotta, basilio, fullmer, now there is some fighting

  • All these fighters today the champions leonard duran hearns roy jones paquio on and on are all excellent champions but had any of them had to fight the real sugar man they all would have been KOd maybe a hand ful could have gone the distance and maybe beaten Robinson robinson 80+ fights as an ametuer no losses 130-1 as a pro before moving to middleweight easily robinson was the best ever welterweight period imo

  • If Sugar Ray had come out on his toes and dancing, he would have beat Duran just like he did in the second fight!

  • leonard fue bueno , rapido y tuvo valor de cambiar golpes con duran denle su merito.

  • This fight was EPIC! Fuck Gayweather, he is fraud, with some skill, but a fraud nevertheless! His anti social ghetto behavior will KO him, without a man laying a glove on him.

  • Leonard couldn't beat Duran toe to toe, in the second fight he clowned and ran away.

  • @hawkman350 Same with Hagler. Leonard would have made a Hell of a track star.

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER For sure. The only time Duran came unstuck in a brawl in his prime was against hearns. bit of a bad match up that was.

  • @hawkman350 Prime Hearns hit like a son-of-a-bitch and Duran seriously underestimated him and did not train seriously. Would have like to have seen them have another go.

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER Yeah maybe, but I think Duran would need to be in dog shape to stand a chance! I have a feeling he'd be seriously banged out again otherwise!

  • @hawkman350 Maybe so that damn Hearns was probably the hardest puncher in Welterweight history.

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER He is my favourite fighter.

  • @hawkman350 Yeah at LH he would have crushed that fluke Roy Jones real fast!!

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER Oh for sure! Roy jones needs to seriously retire!

  • ricky dont know where u read that Ray said that he knew he'd win the second fight if he fought his fight boxing and dancing instead of trying to outslug Duran. He admitted he allowed duran to get him angry and fight not a smart fight and he would never let that happen to him again

  • @stumanchoo What he was probably referring to is a documentary about Duran where Ray talks about their second fight. Duran took the fight at a time when he wasn't training seriously, his diet was horrid, and conditioning was not there. So Ray said he knew it was the perfect time to beat Duran, that's why he said he knew he would beat him in their second fight. I'm not sure if the documentary is still on youtube, but I did watch it a few years ago.

  • @NeoOsiris19 Your right. Leonard was not so much a great fighter as much as a brilliant opportunist. He won many of his fights by taking advanatge of circumstances as he did with Duran and also with Hagler. I have ZERO respect for him and he certainly should NOT be in the Hall of Fame but rather the Hall OF SHAME!!

  • @ONENIGGER2ANOTHER Just like Roy Jones a bunch of flash!

  • el mas grande leonard!!!!!

  • @elricoterodefloresta I bet you are mexican, you wish RD was mexican but is not. jejejeje

  • @rickyp4ever Roberto was Mexican, he was just born in panama, hes dad was mexican, if he dosent want to admit it thats his issue, but he had Mexican blood either he liked it or not. REAL TALK.

  • leonard el mas grande de la historia!!!!!!!!

  • duran was almost 30 in this fight the duran i saw fight from the age 23-27 knocks leonard out and thats a fact.

  • i love leonard but that dude was lucky he did not got killed. min 719

  • ray tried to fight and lost. 2nd fight he boxed a weak duran instead of fought him and won. end of the day i think ray was better at welter weight simple as that. who cares? these guys were both amazing and both legends! duran was at his peak yrs earlier at lightweight. leonard was at his peak 1yr later v hearns. who gives a fuck it was an amazing fight and both guys live forever in my memory n i'll tell my son one day ''he's good son but guys named duran n leonard were the greatest''

  • @SmackNcrack01 This is about the only normal, unbiased reply I've seen regarding these two on Utube....possibly ever! lol. They were both great. Simple as that. Duran was a lightweight, Leonard a welterweight.

  • @bteniswood i second that 100%. shame that people cant see the truth when its so simple. we all should just enjoy these true fighting men.

  • Incredible sugar ray... :)

  • With all his machismo, Duran was quite the polished and smart fighter. He was the complete package.

  • @easyscore

I think Duran is more a bully and a brawler who fights dirty and has killer knockout power in both hands. He was lucky he got under Rays skin and made this fight a street fighting brawl and not a boxer match otherwise leonards superior speed and skill would be more than duran could handle.

But at lightweight Duran was THE MAN.

  • @SirHappyThe1st excuses, excuse, Rd made this fight a street fight? look who is holding, pulling head down, hanging on Rd's head, SRL was using nasty tactis to survive...SRL superior skills? RD completly out boxed SRL and RD was not a slow fighter niether. If SRL has superior skills and speed why requested a 24x24 ring to win the 2nd fight? he knew better, you know sh*T

  • @rickyp4ever

If leonard as you say was losing this 'street fight' why did he not box later on? why did he come out flat footed when he is usually on his toes? why are the commentators surprised he doesnt hit and move?. why didnt he jab?

The truth is that being a naive cocky fighter leonard thought he could outbrawl the stronger punching Duran, big mistake.

SRL showed his superior skills in fight 2 and 3 with duran. 2nd fight the ring was 21*21 as opposed to 20*20 for this fight.

  • @rickyp4ever

If RD made this fighter a street fight why couldnt he do the same in the 2nd fight? i know i know what yr going to say RD had the stomach cramps, or didnt train properly or was fat or the ring was too large or his dog left him.

RD is a legend but he had a problem after he moved up from lightweight he couldnt knock the boxers out so easily and some of them like Leonard and benitez were faster than him.

  • @SirHappyThe1st Really couldn't knock guys out. Somebody should tell Iran Barkley.

  • ROBERTO DURAN FOREVER!!!!!

  • The greater the technology, the greater the danger. Bow and Arrow, Gun, Nuke, Death Star. Hopefully, the greater the intelligence, the great probability of survival.

  • i luv duran. what a machine he was !

  • I am glad that a lot of people know the fact that Leonard demanded a bigger ring and larger gloves; Leonard was the challenger, true, but he was able to put conditions since Duran was obviously in need for money and had to make the fight happen. Also, can't deny the fact that Duran was not a model for discipline, learn how he prepared for the second fight with Leonard and the fight with Hearns...

  • @coldblood75

Duran was just a better fighter.

Take Leonard's best attribute, Duran was probably better at. He just rarely bothered using it

  • I honestly think Duran was just a better fighter. Period.

Leonard had politics and flambouyance (not to mention dirty out-of-ring-tactics) on his side, but that's pretty much it.

Roberto truly outclassed him for 15 rounds. I was blown away by the judges scoring though, they gave Leonard a suprising amount of "gift" rounds.

  • I am Panamanian... and I think that this was the greatest figth of Duran of all times... you can look at the beginning the explosive phisycal conditions that he was looking... this is for history what could do a humble boxer of a tiny country... duran forever!!!

  • pacman reminds me of duran a little bit, and SRL reminds me of mayweather hahaha

  • @Ricky42791

    Pacquiao don't compare to Duran

Duran could do it all. Fight any way you want him to fight.

Pacquiao's like Duran's brawler mode, but that's it. He's too one dimensional to be compared to Duran

Duran could go in and outbox Mayweather, from distance.

  • @MrCeej9999 Pac man aint got shit on manos de piedra, Duran is one of my favorite fighters, IMO i think duran would lick both of them (pac and gayweather) but stylistically the classic boxer using the sweet science and defense, vs the brawler using stanima, power, and agression thats all im trying to say

  • duran was a brawler he won the first fight but 2nd he wanted a war not no pussyfoot game so he quit o well sugar knew duran was a monster till this day both great fighters

  • Leonard = gayweather jr.

  • @bantuy

    Pacquiao = Barry Bonds

  • Hands of stones best performance.

  • Duran was extermely underrated as a boxer.

  • not really there are lots of boxing experts and trainers in the world rate duran as a great boxer he had it all

  • @marlonmuntu I meant by the average boxing viewer but you are correct, those who know boxing know how good Duran really was.

  • @Midnightrambler3760 Boxing GODS! both of them

  • @Midnightrambler3760 yeah i'm not saying i didn't believe you it's just not the version i had heard or read before but i'll check it out, take care man..

  • leonard would never beat him ever with out either doing what they did to duran by forcing him to fight when he wasnt prepared or runing like a pussy that he did that night ,shit ,duran had nothing totally dehydrated and still was only a point or 2 behind , he was just pissed when he quit and felt like shit from the lasix.fucking doctors. roberto duran was te greatest ever when mentally prepared.. he still would be fighting probably if not for the car accident ha ha love u roberto

  • Duran was 1 bad dude!

  • Duran quit the second fight because, in his mind, Leonard was not fighting. he was running and clowning. No excuse but that was his thinking.

  • @jorodd He quit because that what he is a quiter. If he was sucha warrior he wouldn't of quit. Great fighters know how to adjust. Did Marvin Hagler quit. No he didn't he just walked Leonard down. SRL fought Hagler the same way he fought Duran. So stop making excuses.

  • @Dmidgette1 I wasn't making excuses. I was just writing what appeared to be Duran's thought process. What Duran did was inexcusable. What Leonard did was very smart (insisting on an immediate rematch and a 24 foot ring.)

  • This fight was great, I never used to be big a Duran fan, but this guy was a beast, a highly skilled beast at that....lol. For a guy called "Hands of Stone", he also had very underated defensive skills.

  • 18x18, 20x20, or 24x24 Ring, Sugar Ray Leonard knew that he had to stick and move, because he could'nt stand up to the pure power and angles Duran was using on him. he knew he had the reach, and the speed so that's what he had to use in order to beat Duran in the rematch. If leonard tried to fight duran inside like the 1st fight, Duran beats him again!!

  • @poeticjigga reach and speed was not an issue for Duran it was a 22x22 ring and 10 onz gloves that SRL cried for to slow down Duran's attack and be able to run like a thieft. And demanding a quick re-match to fight Duran out of shape. SRL knew in even conditions no way to beat Duran. On the 1st fight he brought a Ref. who allowed him to apply illigal tastics against Duran all night long, saved him from been K.Out and still lost. he knew like you said no way to beat Duran. SRL Karma is a bitch!

  • @poeticjigga duran still lost

  • Duran was one scary MF. A total monster. Great, great fighter.

  • Leonard showed he could take a punch in this fight... proved he was great in the first Hearns fight. This fight was close and could have gone either way... after the 5th round this fight was even. Duran clearly won the second and third rounds, but, after that Ray wasn't in any serious trouble or close to being dropped.

  • response to nasty left hook:Only a pussy would let some weak-ass comment get the better of him. Leonard and Ali acted like sportsmen not some hot-headed doosh bag. I will say this though, sonny liston and roberto duran were good fighters and knew what they were doing. Trying to piss-off the fighter before the fight to make them lose their cool, dirty but sometimes effective.

  • leonards a pussy,,,,duran said very insulting comments about rays wife and ray when he had the chance without gloves or rules wouldnt defend his wifes honor,,,,,,,,,,,,reminds me of when sonny liston slapped cassius clay across the face hard,,in a las vegas casino,,because he got tired of clays big mouth,,,clay like a bitch walked out of casino and didnt retaliate,,some fighters outside the ring are bitches,,ray falls in that catagory,,nice guy but no huevos

  • rickyp4ever,,,,,dont forget ray antman leonard also demanded 10 ounce gloves,,not the 8 ounce gloves used in montreal,,,,its all bullshit,,,leonard couldnt beat duran without all the help,,,,he knew,,,duran figured give him everything he wants,,ill whip him anyway,,,,,,big mistake,,too macho,,,,

  • @BringerOfTheTruth He did know there is an interview where he confirms it

  • Im amazed how much this seems, in my mind.. how a fight between pac and maywweather would look like. Duran, like PAC.. coming forward.. throwing BOMBS.. suffocating Ray. Ray, like MAY.. picking and choosing perfect time for counter punching.

  • I don't get why Duran fans point to this fight with leonard as a significant victory. As I watch the actual fight I am so impressed by SRL beating Duran at his own game. Leonard got robbed in this fight. They gave it to Duran because they fought Duran's fight. But count the rounds and you can see Leonard beats him at his own game. Weird that no one notices this.

  • RAY LEONARD > ROBERTO DURAN

  • duran destroyed sugar ray chicken

  • @gordito0279 LOL! so did hearns in the 2nd fight and hagler 2. But damn thats life. Sometimes we get bad decisions. Still a great fight!

  • I don't see how any one here see SRL winning this fight, he was allowed to control Duran's attack the whole fight by hooking his arms. The ref helpped SRL the whole fight, I see Duran finishing SRL before the final bell, if the ref. would not allowed SRL to do that, plus SRL was the bigger man and was holding the whole fight. Close fight but a lot of help from the ref. 2nd fight like someone mentioned here was a circus tro trash Duran's carreer.

  • Duran pound for pound best lightweight ever!!!!!!!!!!!

  • these men fought at an incredible pace. but these men were not on roids. these are god given talen, strenght and heart to fight and win. unlike mayweather only god given talen is his monkey like mouth!!!!!!

  • Excuses there are proof about all that I'm saying. Excuses is what SRL had when Duran said to him in an interview with Howard Cossel "I will proof you that I am a lot better than you" and SRL responded "No, I won't fight you because the press will kill it" the press will kill it? What an excuse, No Duran will kill you man, you fought Duran out of shape and the only thing he was able to do is run like a chiken in a huge ring tagging Duran, if you all don't know the fight was close when Duran quit

  • this was a time when we had real men boxing ,real golden boy in SUGAR RAY ,real macho in DURAN a mans man ,SUGAR RAY a quick puncher and DURAN a ring and street smart fighter ,nowadays we get garbage like OSCAR DELA HOYA a self promoting chiken shit boxer ,and others who are afraid to get hit

  • 1-1 Wow this fight is exciting. I think Leonard was stupid though to fight a hard puncher like Duran flatfooted. Duran is just explosive in this fight.

  • Duran was the absolute best in applying pressure. He jumped in on you so fast, and was in perfect position to punch with great power.

  • SRL people are in denial stating that SRL won this fight, go to the end of the fight and listen when they read the score cards, 50,000 people booed, jered when the 2nd judge scored the fight 147 to 147 so if anybody claims that SRL won this fight know nothing about boxing, they belive when the commentators shouts Duran is hurt like 8 time in this fight, Duran was never hurt, SRL was hust at least 5 times in this fight, but Duran was not allowed to finish SRL, I bet SRL had already arrenged that.

  • Didn't the Hearns people do the exact same thing? Offered duran a fight when they knew he was really heavy and would have time to be in top shape?

The excuses here for Duran are retarded. He was the fucking champion! He could have demanded better terms and more time. His lack of discipline both with money and with his training cost him.

  • Leonard was a terrific fighter but he was a thief. He only fought Duran the second time when he knew Duran wouldn't be at his best. Same with Hagler, waited til he was on the slide before he'd fight him. They robbed Hagler. Then Leonard waited 3 years before offering Hagler a rematch. Leonard only really had 2 glory fights - Hearns and Benitez - the rest, ultimately, was bad for boxing and it took years to recover. Seeing Norris end his 'fake' career was the boxing gods getting pay-back.

  • will this hapen in pac-floyd fight?

  • Leonard couldn't handle duran toe to toe, that's why he acted a clown and ran away in the second fight. He made a mockery of boxing. Duran was an incredible fighter and unbeatable in his prime.

  • SRL won this fight ! Don king was fixing fights even in the 80 s. Short of a KO SRL wasnt going to win this fight.Even the commentator s we biased.LOL i DIDNT KNOW DURAN HAD HIS OWN BOXING NETWORK !

  • @The1armboxer123

    you twat

  • @E6DOG You know im right !!

  • @The1armboxer123 Hey listen when they read the score cards, You will measure your boxing knowledge, witch is 20%, stop watching this fight with your ears, Duran was never hurt and SRL was never flat footed, or trying to trade, he was running when they shouted "SRL is trying to trade with him" SRL was cornered and had no option, you know SH"" about boxing, SRL was a big cheater and had the REF.his side, I bet Padilla did not by magic forgot how to break boxers apart that night.

  • @rickyp4ever WOW RICKY BOBBY WHAT FIGHT WERE U watching ??? Please be sensible when your posting at comment to me.....

  • @The1armboxer123 your nickname should be "The 1/2 brain boxer" bacause the 2nd fight was a big circus that SRL put together to trash Duran who beated him, and then after, forced Duran to go to the next weigh division because he was a chiken, why forced Duran to go to the above division by saying that he will never ever fight Duran. HE KNEW DURAN WILL KILL HIM IF HE GIVE DURAN A RE-MATCH, SRL distroyed Duran carreer. Duran was forced to fight bigger fighters. Hey did you know that? I have proof.

  • @rickyp4ever What in the HELL r u talking about you Ricky BOBBY!!!!!!! All i hear is your excuses why Duran couldnt beat leonard .SRL won 2 of 3 fights and the 1st was questionable Duran HAS NEVER KILLED LEONARD....SRL made him quit he Destroyed his own career . I wouldnt fight again either if he quit.

  • @The1armboxer Questionable LOL. SRL 147 Duran nat. 135 and SRL end up hanging, holding, pulling head down, hooking one arm and hit with the other the whole fight and on top of that allowed to hold on Duran for more than 13 sec. when was in big touble. Do you think with a real ref. SRL would of survive the 7th round? Listen when they read the score cards, the judge that scored 147 to 147 got booed, 50,000 did not even see this fight close. it was a little close but a lot of help from the ref.
