Mrs. Petri in a later interview stated quite firmly that this evening was by far the hardest challenge of her professional career. Not exactly hard to believe, huh...
I don't think they practiced.. it looks like he's improvising. for instance at 1:01, he's not getting the tempo right to begin with, because she's slowly speeding up.. there are a couple of similar examples during the clip.
Shoudn't laughter be contagious ? even Borge's music and the way he plays it is hilarious ! She must have really strong stomach muscles to be able to hold her laughter back so long...
Shoudn't laughter be contagious ? even Borge's music and the way he plays it is hilarious ! She must have really strong stomach muscles to be able to hold her laughter back so long...
I'm a flute player, and i woulda loved to have been up there~! What coudla been more fun? ^_^ Borge is AWSOME. of courseMichala Petri is stunning too, to be able to keep up and not die laughin. hurray~ :D
@banrionaiasc he's so mean to her... of course you love it, it's wonderful, but there is only two explanations for the dislikes. Either eight people missed the like button, or eight people somehow see this as some kind of offence to flutists or something.
He uses about every possible trick a gifted musician like him can use to make her laugh. It's fun to see how she is battling to keep from laughing :-).
I play the recorder too, and listening to her makes me want to sit down and cry. Not for her, for me! She's like Flight of the Bumblebee and I'm more like Chopsticks. Woof!
remember watching it on danish tv as a child... it was always surtain that we would laugh :-)) and remember especialy this with Petri... it has become a classic in Denmark! Loved his abillity to make his guests loose it !
Really, the recorder is the worst possible instrument to play around someone like Victor Borge. =P The recorder requires so little air to produce a pure tone that overblowing even slightly completely destroys it. Playing such a sensitive instrument would have been so hard to play around someone who makes it so easy to lose composure and start laughing. For the most part, though, she pulled it off rather well - a lot better than I ever could.
seems a little staged - he does the same thing with Anton Kontra on the violin and even there it is set up as if it was all spontaneous.... but still think he is great
@bluehiu it's like all comedians, they have their bits that they do. He has lots of gags that he uses over and over, like his seatbelts in the piano bench. There's some things I think he does just to make the person he's accompanying crack up.
After some research, I believe I found out why: Victor Borges has never seen the score of this song, only heard it, and he's improvising all along. I could be wrong though.
...Music...an international language....it doesn´t matter that is in danish.....im mexican and i understands the music part .....love this kind of classical-funny acts......somebody know if there is another guy like Mr. Borge???....i know there is no other than him but at least with the same kind of acts....greetings from Mexico.....:D
actually at the dvd that was realesed with his life work shortly after he passed away, may his soul rest in peace, he did explain that he had heard this pice of music but he had never learnt to play it, so yes he imporivises the entire time. he was a genious, a musical wounder. RIP Borge, i am sorry that i didnt have time to talk to you once more before you passed away
People saying he didn't know this piece must be insane. Pianist generally speaking through music school and before they become performance artist do a shit load of accompany work and end up learning more pieces for other instruments than piano itself, not to mention it's easy money to play accompany for soloist. Considering how well known this piece is and how old he is theres over 100% chance hes seen the music at least once.
so classic... i love how he can be so hilarious and bring so many different people in with his comedy, but they can still show how amazing they can be as performers. she's crazy good.
Are you kidding? ;D She's fighting laughter the whole time! And what's funny is that Borge plays it off. ^_^ This I guess would be the not-so-smooth improv version of Czardas (see the performance with Anton Kontra).
Thank you, soooo much...I wish guys like him could stick around forever. I know its childish...I just wish to see more of him. Does anybody knows any music comedians that,of course, not the same caliber, but as a resemblence of the same art? I am sad he is gone...
