Here's the secret to both distance and direction....GRIP PRESSURE!!!!!...Most of you swing at a 100+ mph effort....but your clubhead is flying about 80....wonder why GRIP PRESSURE!!!
does anyone know what show this is? there are more clips out there with similar analysis of diff players. I believe it was in 1954, GOLF Education: golf lab. Any help would appreciated, thanks!
@justinp766 You used the word "set" ... when I talked with Hogan, he said he never "set" his wrists ... the angle of the shaft to the arm remains fluid throughout the swing, especially on the downswing ... any other questions?
PaulSki, excellent book - "Ben Hogan An american life" James Dobson. Just finished reading it, excellent. A guy I know (he runs a small golf shop in Bray County Wicklow Ireland) Wrote to Mr Hogan and requested a Signed photo as a present for an Irish Journalist called Dermot Gillece, Mr Hogan replied with the signed photo and a not that read, "Yes I have heard of the said gentleman". Short and sweet, he wasnt a man of many words, the guy has the note in the bank!
A very orthodox pivot Mike! He turns around his spine, which runs up the back of his torso. (a centered motion) There is more recent video of him out there with even more tilt too. (Palm Beach hitting balls into ocean)
thats is new swing- he used to flip his wrists but let his left elbow drift away from his torso on the follow-thru in an attempt to keep from hooking the ball. his new swing combined the supinated left wrist at impact whith the upper left arm held tight against his torso to promote the added impact of clubhead rotating around the shaft thru the impact zone. turned out to be a winning combination

Love this video, Hogan was a class act and had a swing that would change the way golf was played. So ahead of his time.

@golfwriter9
he sets his wrist or "cocks" them ....then he unleashes all hell into the golf ball.
justinp766 8 months ago
@justinp766 Nope, that is not it. He does not set his wrists. Notice how the angle keeps increasing on the downswing.

@golfwriter9
lol , how else do you think he can have that angle without cocking his wrist??
I am LDA member and thats how you keep that angle.

Camilio Villegas is tne only top pro who suses this dated lateral slide. No wonder he cant drive it straight anymore.

@teewoods Are you bagging on Camilo AND Hogan...?? Or just Hogan?? Not sure I agree either way but...Hogan...was an OK golfer...
paulski5 1 year ago
@teewoods Give me a break! Hogan was the greatest striker of the golf ball ever! I am not saying putter but ball striker.
McGinnbros 1 year ago
@teewoods Hogan was one if not the most accurate golfer in his day.

It sure seems he moves off the ball in the backswing, but obviously it worked for him.

Lots of tilt and he gets very open in the downswing too, with a good bit of weight moving onto the left foot.

Curtis Strange had a very similar,(and successful) lateral movement, though not as fluid as Ben's.

Did hogan hit the golf ball long?
proslayar 3 years ago
Yeah, he hit it a long way.
TexanProgressive 3 years ago
proslayar.....he was a big hitter for a little guy I take it.
Good pivot and lots of delay in his release he had.
paulski5 3 years ago
yeah thats what i thought too, but alot of the time people say that straight hitters are better ball strikers.

the grid makes it clear.Hogan's left hip is in the middle at address and almost touching the vertical line at impact.
