  • wonderful girls from GDR, wonderful speaker

  • Nice to hear David Coleman's voice, be it bob-sleigh, football, track and field or whatever, he had a real depth of knowledge. Kathy Cook (nee Smallwood) was GB's greatest sprinter. Pity Sonia Lannaman wasn't in this team.

  • Yet nobody is talking about how the East Germans were on steroids for years. Helloooooo, the east germany doping scandal??? Look it up. They should have every medal they won for over a decade taken away.

  • And the world record still stands ,41.37s,,the 26th anniversary ,6.10.2011

  • Brilliantly commented on by David Coleman - still going strong at 85!

  • good 2 c no americans in the final

  • its like its on fast foward when ur watching the east germans!

  • @shadow1985ism You know why don't you????!!!!

  • @Westy196740 what u on about u bell-end

  • that cannot happen again jamica is ataking every fuckingthing with no competition

  • damn thats some stanozolol striding

  • The US is noticebly absent. Thanks Randy Givens for fucking up the baton pass in the semis.

  • wow the east german start was horrible...like half a second behind everyone!..

  • While we have heard some of the Americans confess their drug use in the sports. I am yet to hear the Germans confess.

  • @ajanijam Well, then you're not listening close enough. lol

Seriously, it's common knowlege in Germany and has been confirmed by then athletes, that they have been doped extensivly from an early age.

Doping was and remains a problem in professional sport.

    So there's really nothing hidden.

  • @ajanijam

its been ongoing now for several years that East German athletes have continuously proclaimed that they had been using performance enhancing drugs. Years after 1989, when the wall came down, classified documents were made available to the public. These documents contained information about the use of doping.

  • venezyela tell us sth we don't know!!but, Uk also won medal in the 200m women with Cathy Cook didn't they?Or at that time maybe the relays were conducted before the sprints?

  • these east german women looks like dudes running on steroids. the east german were controlling the athletes with steroids.

  • @venezyela

first off all look at the clip again. The beginning of the clip shows a muscular

female runner in lane 8. That was not the East German lane, Secondly steroids have been used by many different countries.

  • Canadas first two legs were amazing!!!!!!

  • Really??...they look ok to me. Not petite (well german girls are big in bone structure) but feminine still. Quite pretty too. Not muscular like Torry Edwards, Lauren Williams or Gail Devers.

  • The East German Girls/Ladies look like men...wow

  • No, Jarmila Kratochvilova from ČSSR looks like a man. Also Fatima Whitbread from Great Britain...

  • Canada is not running above themselves Angela Bailey and Marita Panye are awesome, now the last 2 legs were not good and the 3rd leg was our alternate. The next year at the 84 games we had our 3rd leg regular and school girl France Gareau who they smartly let anchor... and we ended up with the silver ahead of Britain and Jamacia.

  • Absolutely they r not, Angela Bailey made the final of the 100 metres here, and Martia Payne was 5th in the 400 metres here in a new commonwealth record of 50.06, and she was in the 200 metres semifinals with a 22.62. so both girls were not running above themselves; but world class, as they r world class sprinters.

  • Angela Bailey also made the final of the 200 metres here.

  • Tramposas, Cheaters... drogas, y mas drogas, drugs and drugs.

  • So the first medal of the first ever World Athletics Championships came in the Women's 4x100m relay then that means that Steve Cram's gold medal performance in the 1500m final came on the last day of those championships. Is this true?

  • drugs

  • I know what you mean! It seemed that in many sports there were great personalites. Alot of sports men and women are so machine like these days and they lack any real charisma....

  • I remember the 1983 World championship in Helsinki. In my view, it was the greatest Track and Field competition ever. Even though the GDR girls probably cheated, they were fun to watch. The rivalries then were just incredible between US and GDR female athletes. Now Track and Field (just like boxing) has lost the charm and attention it got in late 70's and early 80's.

  • oh so true.

  • Those thieving GDR Bitches.

  • pbs - doping for gold. most of the east german team didnt even know they were on drugs at the time. watch all 3 chapters of the documentry.

  • brillantes mis idolos las fabulosas alemanas orientales siempre las admire en mi juventud

  • It's too bad the US didn't make the final here. They had big time baton problems in the semifinal run!

  • 41.23→41.37 I mistook world record.

Marlies Gohr came to Japan a couple of times.

Time are 10.97&10.97 and so on.

  • Thanks for putting another vid. I'd forgotten about Shirley Thomas, who was just 20 in 1983. I think she was the younger sister of Eleanor, who was a decent sprinter too and went on to marry Glen Cohen, the 400m runner.

  • Hi! Mr.Athlete5399

I am so glad to watch this 4x100m in 1983.I have never seen this relay since 1983.

    GDR Record:41.23, 41.53, 41.60 Best 3!

You have such a lot of Ashford & Gohr.Thank you!
