ah mr.faceshot. i have speed and angels. i highly recommend it! they have a tomcat up here in mcminville,or at the air and space museum where the spruce goose is. i also recommend if you can make it up, check it out as well. maybe get a group together and go if anyone is interested

Its sad their not in sevice, but what I dont understand is the Airforce's F-15 went into production around the same time as the F-14, but its going to reamin in service till at least 2025, Rest in peace Tomcat!!!

Whats not to understand? Sea, salt, sand, carrier take offs and landings are alot more brutal on a plane than taking off on a standard runway. The Legacy Hornets are newer than the F15 and F16 and they are beaten up far beyond their USAF counterparts

the F-15 doesn't have sweeping wings, they're much more complex and more expensive to maintain. Plus the F-15 operates from land, carrier operations are more stressful on an airframe

The added stress of carrier operations shortens the lifespan of aircraft. when they land they're slamming on the deck a lot faster and a lot harder than Air force fighters. Launches are also more taxing. The Navy could keep them in service sure. but they're expensive and more demanding to maintain than the F-18s, and the F-18s are almost as capable.
