  • the problem is that there's no emotion in the music

  • I love this beautiful voice.

  • FABULOUS!!!! just breathless ....

  • muse is great,,let me know when they perform to hi,c and above, grow a bosom, and turn an old dude like me ON!!

  • Maybe she just liked the song and wanted to sing it?

  • I dont like it... sorry. I agree with the fact that there is no emotion in this version. She has a beautiful voice though, way better than I could ever sing that's for sure!

  • @YOmama30255 someone who agree's.. YAY.. i would be careful saying this though because they rip into you for having an opinion different to theirs.. but i wont cave, Muse are amazing. This song is amazing. Her voice is a great voice. But she ruined this song.

  • I am a huge Renee Fleming fan, and she is possibly the finest classical dramatic soprano alive today, but I think her forays into popular music have sometimes been misguided. To begin with, this is not a particularly good song and Miss Fleming does not do anything particularly interesting with it. I feel about it the way I imagine I would feel about Beyonce singing Rusalka.

  • Love it!!!

  • She has a really good voice, and could (should) have made something more epic & emotionnal of this so good song...

  • im a hardcore muse fan, but come on, of course the original would always sound better than the cover..-__-....so dont act all suprised...

  • Fuck This Shit!!! MUSE version is way more EPIC!!!!

  • I love Muse and I love Renee! This sounds awesome!

  • Okay, srsly. It may not be Muse, and it may not be what we expect from Ms. Fleming, but are you kidding me?! This sounds amazing! There is a warmth and depth to her sound that is plain delicious. To hear this kind of richness from a freakin' lyric soprano?! There's so much more to her sound than with Muse. Don't get me wrong: I totally dig Muse, and there's much to be said for hearing the original artist perform their music. However, there is so much more substance in this recording.

  • @certifiedwench

    I know right =)

one time I heard Renee Fleming on the radio without knowing it was her. she was singing a spiritual and I thought she was a black contralto lol

  • @certifiedwench who cares about "substance" if the song sounds friggin dead...

  • there is no emotion.. where is the emotion????. . nope dont like it . . no one can sing a muse song like Matt. . i dont know why people even try. .

  • @musicislife1990 its a tribute to them its not like shes trying to top matt.

  • @FreyaDiamond

that may be true. but i stand by my point, no body i repeat that no body can sing a muse song as good as Matt. and i mainly dont like it, becos i dont really like this particular style of music.

  • @musicislife1990 If you want emotion, listen to Radiohead. If u want singin talent, listen to this. If you want.... .. Muse.. than listen to it and don't criticise other music, not even covers.

  • @Artingence i Am so sorry that i gave my honest opinion. i dont believe i said anything about her not having talent. so i wasnt criticising.. for frik sake, i am sure there are others who perfer the original artist performing their songs then somebody else. so get over yourself, but i still stand by what i said that the emotion of this song is lost in her version of the song..

  • @musicislife1990 its a tribute to them dipshit its not to be better then the origina.

  • @musicislife1990 cuz they can?

  • @musicislife1990 because they can? so suck it

  • In a zillion years I wouldn't have imagined Renee could sound like Cher at 30.

  • not right. matt bellamy sings it perfectly, and this is just not the same.

  • x_X wtf

  • Muse all the way!!!

And this is a WOMAN?! Sounds like some Spanish dude singing.

  • @TheCydoniaKnight94

sounds like a man? actually, Renee Fleming has a high voice. she's what we call a soprano (high female voice) and she has easy notes about high C in her operatic recordings. you must be used to all those wimpy pop voices who can't sound like REAL women.

  • I find this painful to hear. Firstly Renée Fleming is an opera and lieder soprano of the highest order. This is neither her range nor her style and the performance does her a dis-service. Secondly, it is too closely associated with the original performer to merit a cover (though having said that, Muse fans on the internet seem to slag it off in their droves - I'm personally rather fond of the song).

  • ?? This is Renee singing? I was waiting for some "ooohs and high notes" amidst what I thought was this "Muse" singing. First time for me to hear her sing like this. her voice sounds like a mezzo this way.

  • I love this song and addicted too! What a great voice!

  • she indeed has a great voice, butI like more the muse version =), the feeling which Matt Bellamy sings it it's awesome!

  • Truly amazing, but don't be deceived if i say that i prefer the dubstep version by true tiger i like them equally by category.

  • I can tell she has an amazing voice, even though I've not heard any other songs by her. But I realyl don't think this is her type of song. I'm sure her voice would beautifully match a slow song. Just like Matthew Bellamy's voice mindblowingly matches Muse songs.

  • i really like it . :O

  • The voice sounds like it can be either feminine or masculine. I rather Muse.

    -H-

  • mmm, i like muse better, but if I didn't know muse I'd like this version too!

    muse ftw!!

  • both versions are good and unique in their own way. but i still like muses better.

  • Not nearly as good as Matt Bellamy sings it :|

  • stop. just stop.

  • I think she did a nice job covering Muse. Her version sounds like a song from the 80's era for some reason but maybe that's just me.

  • MUUUUUUUUUUSE!!! How dare you disgrace them like that!

  • @paypay11234

"disgrace" heavens no. it's called being an artist. artists get inspired by each other and learn from each other. covering a song by another artist the most sincere form of flattery you can give. renee isn't trying to one up or be better than anyone else. that's not what art is about.

  • She did an amazing job, but this song in my opinion looks 1.000% better in Matthew's voice than on her voice. I mean, she sang it well, but when Matthew sings this song, he puts emotion on it and I think she forgot to put emotion on it. But she did an amazing job and I think it's great she did a cover of a Muse song, specially of such beautiful and unique song like "Endlessly". This song gives me the chills everytime and Muse recorded it so perfectly well. But her voice is amazing. :)

  • She is beautiful!

  • I never dreamed that such a beautiful voice would be wasted on this genre of music. What was she thinking?!! She's not going to have a voice left!!! Come back Renee!!!

  • i swear that guitar effect around :22 is the one that matt bellamy has been using on his double neck guitar for resistance lately??

  • Comment removed

  • horribilis fantasticus

  • Che voce, Reneè Fleming.

  • She dont have to do this !

  • Um ... Has Andrew Lloyd Webber been visiting her house?

  • Muse has been one of my favorite bands ever and, by listening this, I must confess I'm surprised. Renee is pretty creative, congratulations!

  • ¿what is that? ¡muse is better! so better

  • FLAWLESS! she should do a duet w/ ANNIE LENNOX... i think that would be hauntingly beautiful. peace.

  • Dark hope is wonderfully conceived and executed. It is dumfounding how you were able to find this new voice and vocal genre. I look forward to many more albums like this one -- perhaps some entirely new material too. Hint! Hint! Pop singers should have such style.

    Brava Renee.

  • She is a genious

  • Simply captivating !

  • This is a bit lackluster because the song is kind of boring - not much of a tune to work with. But it's certainly not bad. How could Fleming be bad? The song just isn't the best vehicle for her amazing talents. However, I give her a round of applause for branching out, having fun, making art out of pop songs and maybe even introducing a new generation to opera.

  • @caraphyllis What the hell this isnt a pop song

Im a massive muse fan but she really does this song justice, she has a beautiful voice :) i think muse would be proud to see there song to such a excellent singer ^^

  • @Lorna662 Yeah, I know Muse is not a pop group. I'm using the term "pop" in general to contrast it with "classical", which is what Fleming is known for. I agree with you that she has a beautiful voice and that Muse must be proud to have been included. But this specific song I find a little boring. Just my personal taste. No insult intended.

  • @caraphyllis it's only boring from flemming, muse's version is great! i almost cry every time i listen to muse's version... it's very beautiful from her too but muse is just better (:

  • Renee, sweetheart, treasure: You are one of the best Strauss/Mozart sopranos out there. Stay away from Bel Canto, and FOR GOD'S SAKE STOP DOING CROSSOVERS! This is embarrassing to all opera singers everywhere, and it hurts you. Please, more Countesses, more Korndold, more Strauss, more Mozart... less.... this :( And while you're at it, please get rid of the scoops. I want to hear that glorious voice doing what it does best!

  • Undoubtedly one of the best songs ever written plus she actually sings this better than the extremely talented Matthew Bellamy

  • Fantastic cover of the Muse original. I usually abhor cover versions but this is very good. She has such a rich sultry voice which completely works with this song.

  • Fantastic to hear a gorgeous interpretation of a Muse song that's not really that popular.

    This is truly BADASS.

  • @redballs345 who did it originally?

  • @Loismustdie26 It's originally by Muse. They're a British alternative rock band. It's from their 2003 album 'Absolution'.

  • She is a queen in the opera territories, and she is doing great with this, perhaps she is following the steps of Sarah Brightman, to bring the classical music to wider audiences.

  • @qiarra Some opera voice? More like the world's greatest living soprano? A living legend? A woman with unparalleled vocal technique? My suggestion would be to broaden your musical knowledge, and probably increase your intelligence.

  • @JordanSean they probably just didnt know.

  • @qiarra

  • J'apprécie quand meme, à chacun son appréciation, cela ne se discute pas, à bon attendeur salut, lol :D

  • Like i just tried to say.. not her song. her voice is weak in this octave...the expression is still there but vocally...A mistake amy-be...

  • Musically it's spot on.. but her voice doesn't have the necessary resonance in this range. ... even when she's singing expressively. Not a good choice of song for a high soprano................But why not transpaose this to a good key for her?

  • Wow. This is absolutely breathtaking. I'm so used to hearing her higher register that I had no idea she had such a full lower register. Loving how it sounds. Thanks for sharing!

  • Mouais ...

Je préfère quand même largement la chanson originale de muse !!!

  • <3 love this song

  • watched a performance this morning on Good Morning America, with this song... loved it ! and loving it at this very moment. never heard of her till this day. looking forward to listening to more...

  • MUSE rock this song, but she is pretty amazing too.

  • Hehehehe. But I don't like the arrangement. Note to Fleming: indie doesn't have to be cheap, okay? Even Muse uses real strings sometimes.

  • ok... cant help it but i'm a huge Muse fan.... and their verson is manny times better... sorry to all Renèe Fleming fans.. but i am just not one of u.....

  • I give credit for Fleming trying something new. She's one of the premiere voices of opera. You can tell she has a great voice, but I'm a little lukewarm to this recording. It's as if she's afraid to bring a lot of passion to this because she's afraid of falling into her operatic style. I'm not sure it's even as successful as when Sting did his cover of John Dowland songs, although its better than McCartney's oratorio. Still, I appreciate her trying something outside of her comfort zone.

  • Opera, contrary to may opinions, is very much alive and well - in fact there were never so many opera theaters and performers as today. As for Renee Fleming, she has a knack for risk. She is not the first classical singer to do a pop or crossover record. I was not very much impressed with "Haunted Heart" - it was competent but not much more. I'm curious to listen "Dark Hope" - the sample may appeal to a younger generation, but let's face it - Muse are not all that interesting - sorry, Muse fans.

  • Oh buh-RUHt-huhr! I could tell from the moment I saw the cover of her re-recording of Strauss' Four Last Songs (the first, with the Dallas Symphony, was flawless perfect): I was blown away by the photo where is she is over-made up and wearing something ridiculous that something nutty was in the offing. "Endlessy" is boring as hell, just dumb, not "alternative" at all. Just a little vanity project for a queen who longs to be "hip". Oh buh-RUH-thur! Your don't need to prove us that you're fab...

  • this is actually a good cover :)

  • Such brilliant orchestration as well!

  • PHEW! I admire Renee greatly, but I have to say that was soooo sexy! What a hugely talented lady to switch genres so commandingly ! Can't wait to get the album.

  • love it

  • Never thought I would like anyone but Muse doing this... Love it :)

  • the miracle of a Voice which can sing the highest soprano repertoire yet sing with a natural dark low chest voice the most beautiful modern songs...

  • Simply WONDERFUL!

  • She has a lovely voice, but I think it might be too intense for this song. :( It misses the wonderful serenity found in the original.

  • This is the first artist I have heard cover Muse that have truly done them justice. Great song, great singing, excellent cover.

  • I honestly expected to hate this. This is not at all what I expected it to be, and I love it. This is absolutely incredible.

  • Not a bad cover at all;my husband said that he had heard this on Ken Bruce on Radio2 and I thought it might be some dreadul Mariah Carey-esque drivel! We are both Muse fans, so its a relief. Good on her for trying something different.

  • Opera is not dying. It is one of the longest-living art forms for a reason, it is filled with incredible possibility. Everytime someone has predicted its death in the past 400 years, the art form simply reinvented itself and was reborn. Besides that, Opera has never been 'popular' in the US, and its audience has always been a mere handful of the above 40 crowd. That youth do not value it is not new and no indicator of the future . . . there is plenty of time to get converts as people grow up.

  • I like the instrumental bit.. and lovely voice :) but I like Muse's version better, maybe cos I'm a Muse fan :P but this cover is much better than other shitty Muse covers hanging around.

  • Uhm, I think it does not fits perfectly. I'm not saying she ain't good but this version fails to suck me in like Muse's, although it is kind of accurate.

  • Don't like it, The original seems to progress more, Muse ftw

  • It sounds like Annie Lennox, it's probably sung in a deeper voice than Matt Bellamy :)

  • HOLY CRAMP my favorite opera singer can sing my favorite rock band :D

  • Superb version of this song. This multi-talented lady seems to be able to sing in any vogue. Her mature (over 50 I note) voice leaves the youngsters of today miles behind.. As operaguy says if you don't like don't listen. She is brilliant.. Thanks for uploading as I can't get to download it yet.

  • Awesome Renee!! If you don't like her, don't listen to her! Enough said.

  • Her version is better than Muse.. I'll buy her version only.

  • What a courageous singer she is - ready to give anything a go - ready to take risks - good on her - really looking foward to this coming out. This woman can sing!! Her lower range is as stunning and powerful as her 'opera voice' Lwot

  • Thanx for uploading this, as above, heard it on radio, muse fan too, good cover ;-)

  • wow. As a huge Muse fan I am most impressed.

  • Thanks for posting, heard this on the radio and LOVED it!!!! Shame to say that I have never heard of her before. Finding other posts interesting as to her background x

  • This actually sounds very very good, I lovee Muse, but this is solid version of Endlessly.Godd work!

  • Very beautiful. I love it. So emotional.

  • Love this cover!! Been looking for it for ages!!! At last

  • I can appreciate she has a good voice but I do not like this version. Muse's is better.

  • kinda boring, i must say

  • Fabulous - I would never thought 1. I would love Fleming so much in modern songs, 2. that modern songs of such quality are being composed, 3. this version enhances the main melody of this song enormously

  • By the way, where did you find this recording? since the album hasn't come out yet.

  • @primohomme It was released as a single on itunes.

  • @JordanSean

Oh Awesome!!!! does it come with remixes?

  • @primohomme No, I am hoping they will release one soon!

  • @JordanSean They have shown a full program about Renee Fleming and this track and the album on channel 5 in the U.K. 6th June sunday morning it was very good.

  • The electronic background sounds cheap and cheesy, but her voice sounds really interesting. I don't hate it. I would like it much more if the production was better.

  • this is good but the version from muse is better

  • Matt said in an interview "I think her version is better then our..." I like her version too sorry but Muses is still better !!! XD

  • Very good but I like Muse's more. Sorry :(

  • Scalatti you are such a piece of shit. You insult Renee who is a goddess and worship Studer who had less voice than a giraffe. You should be executed for crimes against humanity and first degree assholeism.

  • @primohomme It's bad enough that Renee is subjected to baseless vitriolic criticism by some of the posters here, but please let's not stoop to their level by resorting to personal insults, namecalling and profanity. I don't believe that Renee, who exhibits such grace and class, would appreciate this kind of defense. Thanks.

  • Fantastic recording!!! She is the best, thank you for posting!!! I don't think an idiot like Scalatti would appreciate this, since he follows stupidas like Cheryl Studer who had less voice than a giraffe.

  • @primohomme I love you.

  • @primohomme

I've just listened to Studer - I don't think she's that bad, certainly not as bad as you're making out. I agree however, that Renee has the more capable voice.

Muse fan here ... and I'm giving it a thumbs up. :)

  • @scalatti I think thou doth protest too much. You just don't agree with every major musical artist about Renee's talents.

  • sorry, but Fleming and Muse just don't go together :)

  • me being a HUGE muse fan, i'd say this is a pretty good cover. good job renee

  • I say Good for you Renee in trying something different. Renee has an incredible voice be it for opera, jazz or pop. The critics will be just that critics and the fans like myself will support her. That's just the nature of the beast. However, the ignorant will just find fault and to those people not much can be said. Besides all of that Renee is an incredibly gracious person. Brava Renee and I can't wait to see you perform in Armida at the end of this month!!

  • @Scalatti When I bought this single, I also bought the ORIGINAL version by Muse. You have already made it quite clear that you do not agree with Renee's artistic choices. Unfortunately, I have heard the typical conservative opinion of "the current state of opera" and the Renee Fleming jazz conspiracy, among MANY other things, over and over, again and AGAIN. I get it, I understand it, and I disagree! Now please, shut up!

  • This is great! Why not? I think it's wonderful that she is not trying to make it sound like opera. Her singing is fabulous! Look at Pat Benatar--operatic voice, classically trained, but sings rock/pop. Renee has a very well-trained voice, and it may not be as well-suited to this type of music as it is to opera, but it's still listenable and enjoyable. We need to stop picking at people for their choices. If you don't like it, don't listen.

  • Why be so stuffy? I don't usually like this kind of music, but I think this is very pleasant. Renee has courage, and she is a delightful sense of adventure.

  • @Scalatti Renee Fleming has performed in 51 different operas, as well as having performed countless pieces in the classical song repertoire in eight languages. She has submitted herself to vicious criticism for her interpretations by your "jaded audiences" who are fixated on performers of the past or on their own personal favourites. Attitudes like yours would kill opera, were it not for the excitement generated in new audiences by Ms. Fleming and a few other brave souls like her.

  • @Scalatti Renee Fleming is not trying to get an indie-rock career with Dark Hope, much like she wasn't trying to get a jazz career when she recorded Haunted Heart. Do you honestly believe that a short lived musical endeavor would have the power to influence her entire operatic career? Renee's mannerisms have always been unique, far before her jazz and indie experiences. Opera is a dying art form, Renee's artistic choices are original, something that our music absolutely NEEDS.

  • @JordanSean Actually opera isn't dying since the HDMet broadcasts more than triple the younger crowds in America and people like myself 17 years of age were raised listening to a mix of classical and modern in Europe... its still strong :)

  • @classicalgal14 I am also seventeen years old, and I can tell you that from my experience, there are certainly not enough young people interested in opera. Even at the Live in HD broadcasts, there are maybe four or five people under 25 years. Perhaps you are accustomed to an environment where young people do listen to opera, but from my experience, young people are not all that engaged in classical music anymore.

  • The fact that you're seventeen and you posted your first and only upload of an opera singer shows that you too have been touched by classical music. I myself am seventeen and I live in Canada. I go to the HD Met broacasts and I have friends in the US and Europe who love opera and go too. My other teen friends close to home go out and shop for grand pianos, talk with me about teaching classical music, or listen to the latest Hilary Hahn CD. Before you judge, keep an open mind ;)

  • @JordanSean I'm 14 and i know a few ppl who still listen to opera occasionally, it's not dying, it's something that'll always be there and everone'll realise that after they all realise what r & b truely is, a load of rubbish.

  • @JordanSean for sure I was at a couple of the HD operas and I swear I was the only one under 60.

  • @JordanSean Not sure where you are watching the Met Broadcasts from JordanSean, but attendance here is quite good, and QUITE young. Additionally, attendance at "hipper" opera houses like Santa Fe, Houston Grand etc have a MUCH younger average audience. I really appreciate Renee covering these songs without trying to force them into a classical mold, but rather with honesty and total commitment to the interpretations.

  • @classicalgal14 I am 13 years old and i LOVE opera, i sing it too. No one my age that i know likes classical music or opera. I go to the broadcasts of the operas where i live and i have never seen anyone my age attending them. I wish more younger people would at least give it a chance.

  • @classicalgal14 When was there a time when the mass of young people were interested in opera or classical music, or literature, or science, or any "serious", "intellectual". and/or "academic" pursuit which is outside of their immediate experience and interests, i.e sex and popularity? There is mass popular interest in sports because athletes are seen as cool, sexy, vibrant, successful, and rich. Mass popular culture occurs mostly below the waist.

  • @classicalgal14 I give Renee Fleming alot of credit for choosing some lesser known indie rock songs to record and to do it in an authentic style. It speaks to her wide ranging interests in music and her desire to connect to a younger generation and different demographic and even her own children and family. I certainly think this album is more interesting and rewarding than Anne Sofie von Otter's ABBA recording a few years ago just to give one example.

  • Not dying. Alive and kicking. :)

  • @Scalatti

You are such an idiot, following a retard like Cheryl Studer who had less voice than a giraffe and critisizing Renee who is a goddess! You should be executed for assholeism in the first degree.

  • @Scalatti

You are such a piece of shit. You insult a goddess like Renee and worship an idiot like Studer with less voice than a giraffe! You should be executed for first degree assholeism!

  • MUSE <3
