Of course there's a difference. There's a stigma connected to the word and it's offensive. Calling a black person African-American is just being politically correct. The word 'gay' or 'homosexual' aren't offensive in the least. They are common, accepted terms. But cripple? I mean seriously... if you think it is okay to use that term you're probably a redneck from WV or the product of a dysfunctional home.
