Joe Rogan cares because he admired Bill Hicks a great deal, and he saw Denis Leary get famous by recycling a lot of Hicks' material. Doing a joke word for word is one thing... having a different take on something is another. A comic is supposed to speak from his particular window ledge. Not every black comedian talks about the same things. Not every gay comic talks about the same gay subject matter, or even gay subject matter necessarily. Comedy is borne of pain, each comic's pain will be different and that's what its about. Channeling the pain into humor. So that others may benefit, if only to laugh.
