Listening to this piece is one of my favorite ways of ending a lovely summer day. The music alone, plus the pictures in this video following the opening painting, bring back memories of childhood summers in Chambers County, Texas, across the bay from Houston. The sense of acute longing for an indefinable "something," such as perhaps bygone days of innocence, that permeates all of Delius's music is especially poignant in this work. Note especially the delayed resolution from 3:50 to about 4:15.

Thanks. I was unfamiliar with this work, and will certainly seek out a full recording. I like it even more than the other Delius works I know.

Lovely piece of music. Painting looks like updated Van Gogh--with a Gaugin style painting included in the background, Van Gogh style.

Delius is one of the most underrated of modern composers. The melodies are out of the world. Small wonder that the late great Sir Thomas Beecham used to rave about Delius.

What I love about this movement is that it is dripping with emotion the way he uses the palette of an orchestra his use of dynamics. I love this so very much it would certainly be one of my Desert Island Disks!!!!!
