Classic. Ya'll right if you don't know every word your not a native of Memphis or your not a 80's 90's baby of Memphis. Does anybody know when this commercial was made?
He's buried in Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery in Memphis, TN., and I saw his grave marker, you'll never guess what they put on it...this very saying he does on this video!!!! Don't believe me, check for yourself.
@CRobertGray Yes, not in the same area though. Salton is toward the back, Bishop Patterson (G.E. & J.O. Sr. & Jr.) are buried across from the Grotto, Isaac Hayes & N.J. Ford are in this section as well.
Probably one of the most memorable lines on Memphis television. I watched one of his sermons once. He seemed sincere and genuinely concerned about the city. Maybe I will see him one day in heaven!
I love this commercial so much. I remember seeing this all the time. What about the Rocky theme and the Fleming Furniture family...Mr. Fleming always looked like he needed a nap.
yes! i used to see this every single day for about 10 years. it came on a 100 times before, during, and after the simpsons on UPN at 5pm, monday-friday.
I've been looking for this commercial for years! It used to come on UPN and was coupled with the church that sung "Go Jesus Go Jesus Go." Thanks for preserving this for future generations.
U gotta be a true Memphian if u know this commercial word for word!! Or somewhere in the mid -south. Check out 901 109 video on my page for all home-town lovers & supporters.
they ran this on channel 30 so many times when i was a kid that there is no way I could ever forget every word of this commercial. classic memphis. wish someone had a quick video of the old 24 karat gold movie commercial out there still
There is another video I produced in 1981 you may enjoy Beale Street History "Sweetie's Soul Food". Brother Salton was my client from 1987 until he passed in 1998. I'm truly humbled that Memphis has made this commercial historical. Thank you Memphis
@chuckobannon Hello I am charity one of the young ladies that grow up in prayer house and still a member how have u been i am now 26 and because of you this message reached our viewer thank you so much ppl still remember pastor james salton ...........................stay blessed feel free to vist the church sometimes we would love to have you and anyone else who reads this message
Man, this cracks me up! It's been at least 10 years since I've seen this and every word is still fresh in the memory. They would always play this commercial during Jerrry Springer which had to be his target audience.
They ran this commercial in Jackson too. I saw him live when he came to the J, he was in a wheelchair but could still preach up a storm. He used an actual horn of oil poured over someone's head for anointing, not that sissified dab of olive oil on the forehead alot of people do.
Does anyone have or remember the other church spot where the preacher spits out something like "FOR HE WHOM MY BRETHREN HATH SAID!" or something like that.
this was my pastor we would go witness to save soul when i was a lil girl he was more then a pastor he was a father to us all i miss him soooooooooooooooooo much church today is not the same as it is now he dead preaching jesus
I can't believe I have actually found this video. I thought I would never hear it again. I remember hearing this commercial soooo many times as a kid growing up in Memphis. Whoever added this video... Thanks! How is that church doing? I haven't seen any commercials or heard anything about the church in a long time. I know at one while his wife was the pastor correct?
Rev. James Salton was very influental in the south memphis "Westwood Community". Strange how most of our greatest leaders were just here for a little while.
I remember being down town in Memphis and hearing some white guys laughing pointing at a black guy quoting this. He was down on his luck probably from bad decisions. This was a very popular commercial....
YESS!!!!! i found it finally!!! i use to LOVE this commercial haha, i can definitely quote every word, i still quote it today and i havent seen it in years, thank you for posting this!
MAN! Talk about classic! My siblings and I used to quote this commercial ALL THE TIME! I recently tried to tell a friend from New Orleans about this commercial; now I can send it to him. Thanks for posting it!
I swear, I heard so one say something two days ago about smokin' a pipe. And I started quoting this commercial, I can't believe I remembered word for word, since I haven't seen since I was about 10. The fact that you uploaded this totally rocks.
LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!! YESSSSS!!!! Man!!!! Okay. Wow! I grew up in Raleigh (North Memphis!!!!) but I left Tennessee 10 years ago. But let me see..... Let me try and get my old school Memphis church on. Ahem.....: "Preach Doc!"
