  • Hugh would always cry during this song, which you could see very well from the first few rows. I was always amazed at how he made it so real at every performance. This whole part of the show was very emotional, talking about Greg's death, Peter having AIDS, etc. Seeing this show and being an "Ozalot" was (so far) the best theater/fan experience of my life. And I have to throw in a plug here for Hugh's new show "Hugh Jackman - Back on Broadway". If you can possibly see it, you need to!

  • This song really touches me deeply, I've been listening to it over and over again. Great performance!

  • This version of the song makes me cry every time I watch it... amazing and truly magical!

  • is it true that gregory and peter's relation last for 15 years.....wow.....

  • ok this just killed me..

  • I was in the one in Ballarat Vic Australia singing I still call Australia home

  • I was so glad I saw this show with my Mom

  • Seriously had no idea Jarrod was in this. Two weird things - I don't recall Jarrod being more than about 5'10" tall, and Hugh is 6'4". And I kinda hate that they didn't let Jarrod use his big giant amazing vibrato.

  • @semelecharter it's not really that kind of song.

  • @sirimarias - I don't know what you mean. Olivia soaringly belts parts of the song, so it certainly has most famously been "that kind of song."

  • @semelecharter maybe (my feelings about Newton-John's version are rather mild at best), but here, in this context? I don't know that it needs it. The sweetness and the vulnerability of this performance is enough at least for me, and in a way I think the low-keyed simplicity of it conveys more than stunning vocal prowess would, or at least, does so differently. I guess it's a matter of taste.

  • @sirimarias - no argument about the atmosphere of the particular scene in this particular play, which was clearly manufactured to be soft and sweet. What I took issue with was your statement that "it's not really that kind of song." Completely different argument.

  • @semelecharter granted. I just wasn't thinking about the fact that this song exists outside the musical, and just meant to address it in reference to your comment about Jarrod. brevity I guess doesn't work on youtube.

  • This feels like the gay version of unchained melody in the movie Ghost. T_T

  • 1 person is from the Westboro Baptist Church.

  • I saw this show...i cried and cry each time I see it

  • Heart wrenching.

  • sorry memories

  • To those that are scared to tell someone how you feel about them, tell them because the next day they could be gone and you will always regreat what might have been. This song hits home to me..I loved two people and both times I didn't know until after they passed away that they both loved me. That is something I will always regreat. Now instead of having mamories of our time together, I will always wonder what might have happened if given the chance. Take your chance you will never know

  • I'm sorry. But I really hate the way they did this production.

  • I miss you Tom and I'll always love you. JC

  • i just honestly love this!

  • I love the southern twist he put into the song. They are such a cute couple!

  • i loved that song!

  • Holy Shit!! It actually made me cry. Its awesome. ♥

  • I have one regret. I never got to see "The Boy from Oz" on Broadway. Thanks for sharing this special moment .

    Debbie

  • @debbiedavis1951 I saw it live 3 times .. I still cry at this song.. I think becouse it is what we wish we could say to those we love but sometimes we just don't.. I am even crying now watching it..

  • @stardel6 I told the woman I loved those words, and took that leap of faith. And I crashed like a drunk turkey into theground and it blew up in my face badly. I wish I kept my mouth shut at least I'd stillhave my best friend.

  • @Cavillier1970 Awww I would love some one to say words like this to me.. Why dose love have to be so hard some times??

  • @stardel6 I wish I had the answer to that question.

  • @Cavillier1970 Maybe the hardness is what makes it so powerful when we do have love in our lifes or maybe I just believe wonderfuly romantic love is real and hope to have it one day

  • @stardel6 I agree that it is out there. I mean my parents have been married for 47 years, my brother married 5 years ago to the girl he dated in high school, broke up with and got back together with years later. I know things like this are possible, but sometimes I think I'm not meant to be that lucky. Theres a tagline from the movie Darkman I always felt fit me perfectly. "In the darkest hour a light will shine on every human, but one." I dont feel sorry for myself, it maybe my fate.

  • @Cavillier1970 Awww that was lovely and sad all in one. I believe you will find some one too. I am 23 24 in May even I feel some times I will not find any one. This song also hurts for Greg is dead singing this to Peter.I have some one who I have loved since I was younger haven't told the person it makes me think will it take death for me to say it ? It's crazy how the ones you really should tell how you feel you can't .The ones you can end up hurting you. My heart knows who I mean. Love Is Love

  • OMG I LOVE IT *sob* *sob* SOOOB

  • it still makes me cry!

  • @QonOUTview same here did you see it live if you did you were like me balling your eyes out

  • Yes, saw it LIVE incrediblie!

  • Normally, I don't go for the guy/guy romance stuff, but how believeable Hugh Jackman and Jarrod Emick make it look!!! Wonderful song, beautifully performed.

  • jarrod came to my town..its small as heck..and performed with us in AIDA in community production of it. It was soo much fun practicing every day with him and hanging out!

  • Beautiful

  • This was beautifully sung, beautifully staged and beautifully acted by both performers.

  • If I remember correctly, Hugh sheds real tears at the end of this song each time I saw the show. Very moving........

  • I beg to differ. Professionals have souls. Technique doesn't sacrifice expression or "soul". Expression is absent at the discretion of the individual musician. Technique is absent in the amateur.

  • I think we can agree that he did it with conviction. :-)

  • Absolutely beautiful. I don't care what anyone else has to say. Do you have to be Caruso or Pavarotti in order to touch the heart strings? Actually, the more professional, the less soul. Give me gut over range any day....

  • Heartbreakingly awesome!

  • The other guy's sense of pitch is terrible in this recording. (Not Hugh)

  • he's just freestyling... Elvis did it!

    :-D

  • He might be "free-styling", but his pitch is flatter than a pancake.

  • Hugh's? Not so.

  • It hit a nerve, good or not I'm glad he did it and I liked it.

  • I just want to give Hugh a big hug! He looks so sad! :(

  • o m g i am nearly in tears i honestly think is could possibly be one of the most touching moments of musical theatre i have ever seen!

  • Oh, wow they were supposed to be in a relationship? ...I thought Peter Allen was married to Liza Minnelli in this

  • He was as well.

  • I love this song!!! He sings it so well!

  • jarrod's voice is so plaintive in this, it really stricks a nerve.. I know it's a show but this song rings of sincerity

  • That was beautiful.

  • Wow. This performance gave new life to that corny old 70s Newton-John pop song.

  • Wow; that's lovely. I like it when a man does this song. :)

  • its sad because greg is dead in the play at this time

  • And also because Peter has AIDS and is dying too. :-(

  • Aaaaaah you just spoiled it for me :(

  • Well unless you are actually going to see the show (which is now off Broadway) this is the only way you would find out.. - these clips only show bits of it, and I was very glad to find out what was going on -(Of course, if you know about Peter Allen's life you would know it too...) But knowing made me see the video in a whole new light!! But sorry for spoiling it for you!! XXX

  • Aww It's okay, I would have found out eventually :)

And now I'll be able to see the song in a new light as well! Yippee! XD

Pity the show is off Broadway...Do you think that there will ever be a revival?

  • We never said he wasn't. We know he's dead!! Thats how he can come back to dying Peter and express what he never could in life because of the horrid homophobia and prejudice of the society at the time...

  • I absolutely adore Hugh Jackman!!! Jarrod Emick was outstanding in this and his voice is, as 'actoguy' said, ANGELIC, I especially love it because it has a kind of countrynss to it. aaah don't ya just love a man that can sing!!

  • @xxkmsmilesxx Jarrod is a dream come true!

  • As people have said, not flat. Different key from the pop version, but he's definitely not flat.

Although that certainly can and does happen in live theatre from time to time, generally performers are good enough singers when they make to Broadway that it doesn't happen very often and pretty much never for a whole song.

  • Jarrod's voice is beautiful, absolutely angelic (which is appropriate since his character is a ghost at this point). Such a great show!

  • The quality of Jarrod's voice is astounding. Just.. Wow. *happy tears*

  • this song is sung by the gay lover of Peter Allen who is basically pledging his love for Peter* (* this is the point where Peter admits he's dying to Greg). But an interesting rendition of this song sung by a dude to another dude. lol

  • I so adore Jarrod's rendition of this song... it's so emotional and beautiful. Wish they would have released a film of the show... saw it three times and it was brilliant!!

  • Thank you so much for positing these video's I saw this in New York and it was fantastic. I have been searching for video of it for years.

  • i cry every time i hear this song :(

  • I honestly love this song.

  • I love this song. Anyone know where I can find clips from the Australian version of this? I want to add it to my collection. Murray Bartlett plays Greg in that version. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Man, I remember ME singing "I honestly love you" to Hugh - in my dreams...

  • oh... man... this caught me a little off guard, and just when i needed it...

funny, when a song you have liked for 30 years turns into something else entirely...

    thanks, and thanks, and thanks...

  • It was magnificent, beautiful. I'm in tears.

  • I like this but the guy in white is really flat! :( x

  • ummm.. no he's not.. like at all.. are you perhaps not recognizing that its in a different key than the original key of the piece?

  • You are so wrong! It is in a different key from what you have heard before. He is perfectly on pitch

  • i thought it was beautiful and touching but i agree, the guy in the white was singing flat. but it's live theatre and that can happen.
