@bloodeboy After purchasing a 35mm adapter unit like the EnCinema, the best lens to start with and most useful lens is probably a Canon EF 50mm f1.8 or a Nikon 50mm f1.8. It's a good, fast and affordable all around portrait lens.
@VidAtlantic Actually, the best thing to start with, and stay with, is old M42 lenses with EOS adapters. Canon EF 1.4f 50mm is $800. Tameron 1965 1.4f 50mm off ebay is about $70, and then 7 or 8 bucks for an EOS adapter. Spread the love of M42 lenses!!!
@thecakeisbake is right! We at vid-atlantic definitely indorse the use of M42 lenses. The quality of glass and the body build are great not to mention they're much cheaper and the converters are super cheap as well. We use Helios, Takumar, Tair, and Jupiter just to name a few. Hopefully endorsements like these dont jack up the demand and price though ;)
is it possible to make a sharp video as well with these? As far as I can see all the 35mm adapters have this totally blur film. And I am not talking about the area which is out of focus but the one which supposed to be in focus... I guess this is fine for old style arty videos but not for proper full HD good quality ones.
This is an old video, check some of our newer clips as YouTube has up'd their badwidth to all new uploads. But yes, 35mm adapters tend to look more like old granier type film stock rather than that new crisp look.
@planetrics If you want perfectly crystal clear images, then you might as well shoot on HD with regular lenses. These 35mm lenses are for people who want the look of film but cannot afford it. Kind of missing the point.
@live62805 well I dont agree. Check my video, the handy35. That was my first test with handy35 adapter. I think its sharper. But in that time I didnt have the external screen yet... Now I bought one so I can really see if the focus is good or not.
@live62805 but btw I didnt mean it as a bad thing, I do love this video, but I just wanted to know that its on purpose or not before I buy an adapter. But its done. I bought one.
I know color correction plays a big part. but in this case even if this was black and white, it'd still look seventish because of the character of the picture. infact even the music does play a role here because it sounds very "little house on the prairies" ish.. but what am refering to is the texture of the look, the fact that it looks soft and feathery coupled with the depth of field. eg looks at 11:00 to 16:00 . color correction alone wouldn't make look as good as it is that way.
I'm using the Canon HF100 and now I have the HV30..Yes, you can put any lens on your camcorder, but you'll have to use our adapter to get the right effect. Thanks for your interest!
Hi! Very nice video! I'm really new to video making, does the Encinema work on the Canon hf200 too? Do you need a separate lens like the one mentioned below "Canon 50mm f/1.8" in order to use the Encinema? What program do you use to edit? Thank you so much!
Wow! Thank you so much! One more question, do you guys also have the Encinema that works for Canon HF s100 as well? If none, are you planning to make one? Thanks again!
At 1:36 it was a Steadicam merlin. Only one shot did have a jib crane..the shot with the students walking into class at 1:20. Thanks for checking it out!!
Hmm, yeah youtube tends to do that. The quality on youtube isnt that great but also, part of the point of shooting with 35mm adapters is to soften a majority of the image while keeping your subject(s) in focus. In some cases it can be difficult to tame and everything looks a bit soft. Much like film lenses and film cameras. Using the EnCinema35 DOF adapter is a good way to learn proper filmmaking.
hey there... this is some nice work... there is a question does this adaptor come with the hd macro achromat and how different is it from the twoneil... i saw some really sharp images from the twoneil adaptor on vimeo... so i am ordering one in a day or two and i just came to know about encinema... and now i am a bit confused...
this i really want to go for as it supports EOS lenses which i already have... twoneil only supplies a nikon lens support...
What's the best 35mm lens to get that real cinema/film look to it? I have a Canon VIXIA HF200.

Karate Kid Music. For reals though, I wanna buy one for my newly purchased Sanyo HD2000 so it can look like a Desert Eagle.

am buying this! has that old film (1970's) look, and the music makes it even more vintage... good stuff.
jejeson 2 years ago 3
I'm pretty sure the 70's look you're referring to is from color grading, not the adapter it's self, but I could be wrong.

With this adapter, do you focus the with EF lens, or with the camcorder's focus?
tankslapper 2 years ago
When using the adapter you focus using the EF lens.

is this the image that 35mm adapter gets ? or...is it edited. i`m really amazed. could i get this image with sony sr11 and this adapter on it?
GadgetVision 2 years ago
The only thing that was added during editing was boosting the color a bit. And that is all. It works great with the Sony SR11.

Hi! Very nice video! I'm really new to video making, does the Encinema work on the Canon hf200 too? Do you need a separate lens like the one mentioned below "Canon 50mm f/1.8" in order to use the Encinema? What program do you use to edit? Thank you so much!
choy2006 2 years ago
Hi Choy2006, yes it will work great with the HF200. You will need a photographic lens like the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 which sells new for $85.
