Dear thedagonjones, if you believe the stuff that you just wrote i sincerely hope you find the light of god as in the song "that saved a wretch like me". i believe that if you say one of the greatest christian hymns of all time is a hoax and is demeaning of our father i believe that you should just move on as is seams you do not act like a follower of god. As in the song "i once was lost but now am found, was blind but now i see."
This song is truely amazing. what EVER you do here on this earth God will forget. When life on earth fails, our sins go with the world. We are brought up to heaven. God's love for us is far beyond my belief and I cannot grasp his love for me.
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (March 14), we sang this as the Hymn of the Day. The Gospel was Luke 15: 1-3, 11b-32, which is the Prodigal Son Parable. It is #779 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.
Thank you for all you have given us god. You given us life and the love of yours. Is the best gift of all. May we be blessed and bless those who are less fortunate than us.
It is a very godless wicked song.It attempts to depicts our Creator in a bad light making us corrupt(God said we are not responsible for the sins of the father and that means Adam in that particular tale)and then having a sacrifice in which the being had to be beaten and mutilated and dead before we could believe this shit and be forgiven. This is evil by any moral standards just like the tale of god commanding a man to burn his son.Gen22.God said he never did.Jer19:5 l8<o
@ucoconut it was written by a slave trader that found christ, he realized how horrible the slave trade is, and he gave the world one of the most beautifull songs.
@ucoconut false, it was origionaly a hymn that slaves thought put there feelings into words so the slaves used it, which did thus change the happyness origionaly in the song to a sad song, therefore ideal for funerals, so u just left alittle off, ur still all good
@ucoconut Incorrect. This song was written by John Newton, he'd been a captain of a slave ship for over 20 years. This song discribed his passion and love for the slaves, he could no longer endure others their torture, and went into a live of abstinence and devotion to God. This is the very first and most known white spiritual song, on a black spiritual melody. (The original melody is said to be an African Sorrow Chant, heard by John Newton from inside the belly of the slave ships.)

A meaningful song, for God's amazing grace, which was to send Christ to the cross just to save us from our sins, when we deserved to go to hell.

it is actually so hopeful, it acknowledges the original sin (wretch like me) but sings to the path of aethernal redemption.

shaneinkster 2 years ago 2
well there was this girl at my school and her 4 year old sister drowned and our chorus teacher had us sing this that day, it was awful.
reallife7708 2 years ago 3
@reallife7708 What's so sad about it?
princessmarthajandio 1 year ago
@princessmarthajandio it has always been sung in memorial for freak accident victims in my school, also many associate it with funearls as well
reallife7708 1 year ago
@reallife7708 I thought funerals would one reason to find the song to be sad. But I didn't know you did for accident victims. That's actually sweet.
princessmarthajandio 1 year ago
@princessmarthajandio it was a song about the slave trade origionally so was filled with pain and sorrow making it an ideal song for funurals.
