  • you don't actually put all the weight onto the box at the bottom do you? I thought it was more of a tap on the box then explode up...keeping the hams and glutes in tension the entire time?

    Good form Otto, and grats.

  • Louie Simmons says to sit down the box, and relax the hip flexors just for a moment, letting some of the tension go, and releasing the stretch reflex from your muscles. That way, when you refire your muscles and explode off the box, you are moving all at once against a dead weight.

    So, yes, I'm resting down on the box. If one were to simply tap the box and explode up, that would be okay for checking depth, but not to the same purpose as a true box squat. This way better trains explosivity.

    I'm surprised no one has commented on your box. Those...things don't look like they are designed to hold 700 lbs. They look like plastic footstools.

  • They are sold as aerobic steps for fatti...I mean...women who want to exercise, and are rated for up to 500 lbs of jumping, high stepping, knee kicking, jiggling, inadequately supported goodness. I reckon by my own deduction, which is based on absolutely nothing, that it is good for twice that much weight.
