Nope. Dragon Knight is NOT Ryuki since it took the mirror world concept w/ a different story & a different setting. It wasn't meant to be ANOTHER Ryuki unlike lamers like you would get deja vu and try to compare it to the original w/o pointing out its strong points. Actually, Ryuki is an over-the-top Kamen Rider Highlander w/ an absurd cast of emo characters (photographer, lawyer, psycho) & a contrived plot except that it worked, including the lame ending.

Next level? Yeah, right. Ryuki's plot was a contrived one; dark and mature yet it sucks when it comes to mainstream reception. And it became the first show where Bandai is on the driver's seat, making Ryuki a merchandise-driven show. And it was followed by Faiz prior to Decade. And most of the target demographic of most toku shows are KIDS. No wonder why Double is far more better than its predecessors.

I only like Ryuki because of Knight and Tiger. But when I have wider knowledge about the whole KR franchise, it seems that Ryuki wasn't even good either. And it leads me to the fact that Showa is better than Heisei and I pity on people who refuse to watch the old shows just because they are old or aren't flashy as the new. On Heisei I prefer Double over Ryuki since Double has many manly serious leads and characters. Shotaro>>>>Shinji.

Actually, you're treating Kamen Rider as serious entertainment while it's really a KIDS SHOW to begin with. The only thing that this show can be comparable to Power Rangers is the used footage and the American actors. The story and characters are completely different from Power Rangers. Not to mention there's absolutely NO posing at all and no monster that grows into size.

Keiichi Hasegawa (writer for Ultraman Nexus and Double) states that henshin heroes can be important to adults as well as to kids if written correctly. That's why Double joined Kuuga and Agito as the best Heisei KR shows ever existed. Too bad Ryuki was written by an idiot named Toshiki Inoue.

Do you think that Shinji has a motivation IN THE FIRST PLACE? He becomes a Rider in order to stay away from his boss. It'd be one thing if he wanted to investigate the disappearances for some greater purpose, but I've never gotten that impression. As written, the first episode has always seemed to depict Shinji as merely curious to me. You can argue he tries to use his power wisely from there, though I think Ryuki as written intended viewers to look at Shinji more cynically.

Shinji saved people because HE GO INVOLVED IN IT. If he didn't find the Advent Deck, maybe he can live on his own life and got fired in a comical way. He tries to save others WHEN IT'S TOO LATE; he only saved the girl and he died; and that was a big mistake of killing off a character. But that's how the show was written.

On killing off Shinji, I'm gonna blame on the writers for it. Knight is a douche, but he acts more like a Kamen Rider should've been more than Shinji, getting the feeling that he was more being a main character than Ryuki.

Being a hero is always present in most good-vs-evil stories like making the right choice and working together to save the world. Emotions are not needed.

Set aside your biases and look again. Since Ryuki is just contrived drama, it has emo characters, including the main character. But it's just a matter of opinion and how the show was written. Dragon Knight has the best written 16 episodes but went downhill in the 2nd half, proving that the show itself is low on budget. But still, DK is a solid show.

I think Ryuki is the kind of show that condemns a character for trying to save others when he can't really save himself. At the end of the day, I think it's debatable as to whether Shinji saved people because it was the right thing to do, or because he'd rather play the hero than play the villain. Motivation in that case opens up a great big can of Kantian ethical worms.

It really depends. In fact, Toei financed the project since they gave the license to Japanese company Adness and they also hired the American directors & writers. And don't ever compare DK to Dragonball Evolution; Dragon Knight stays true to the original Kamen Rider concept since the directors are Kamen Rider fans. Dragonball Evolution is not really faithful to the DB concept either.
