"frolics in the autumn mist" Yep, I may be frolicking now I'm high, & I may think it's hilarious to imagine my 'high' is a land called Honalee, but 'little Jackie Paper' - why would my spliff papers be personified as a stoner? Doesn't make sense. Growing up could mean he's grown out of pot, as you do, but...nah, the analogy just doesn't hold water.

@puppyhowler Watch the TV adaptation. The kid's imagination is a paper version of himself- his real name is Jackie Draper. And "Puff" is an appropriate name for a fire-breathing dragon.
Peter Yarrow made this song from a poem but a magical dragon. He claims it to be about losing our innocence as a child, hence the boy never going back to Honalee again.
The "drug" parts of the song are merely what people make them out to be. You can make anything innocent into an innapropriate reference.

i love how the word "puff" makes people think it was about weed. Theres not one single other part of the song that relates to weed. If the dragon had any name other than Puff, no one would have ever said it was about weed.
