Seems like a lot of work for nothing? Is there a law about this in the Torah? Did they even have t.p. back in the day? Sorry for being a pain but I'm curious.

Creating a viable utensil through tearing (for example: tearing toilet paper). 4. Tearing apart two attached items. source Torah law identifies 39 types of work that were involved in the making of the Mishkan (tabernacle) and from which we desist on Shabbat
