Must con't from other post: By this time, we lived on campus: Shay-Loughlin. Women had 9pm curfew Mon-Friday w/sign-out/ins at main desk; Being bored one Fri nite, my roommate pierced my ears and those of others 3rd Shay; Put on the Freshmen Frolics but no voting to continue the 'rules'. Although it was hazing, we did bond as a class, campus was very friendly with all saying Hi as passing one another, and I still know the words to the alma mater! We also saw end of in loco parentis. I love SBU!
I entered SBU in 1968 and some things were the same! All frosh wore dinks (I still have mine), men also wore SBU ties; wore large signs around our necks w/name, hometown, major; required to say Hello to all we passed walking thru campus; had to address Student Senators by their names (Mr. or Miss); could be stopped by Sens and asked to name Univ VPs, sing alma mater. After a few weeks, we demanded a mtg with Senate to protest this hazing! Some changes were made. Still had to wear dinks!
