I have been "the girl behind the troll" (Ben Travelin a traveling troll) for the last year.
Nobody knows who or how he got started while he is hand made, he lacks the charm of the shoes. I must start the films from the beginning to follow the foot steps.
I have started watching..there are plenty to catch up on.
Ben Travelin has been around under the radar at colleges. I was the first to give him an outside view on MySpace then YouTube. So its not that you are an ostrich.

Thanks so much chica! The shoes have been on a rollercoaster ride with me- they came to Italy, got lost in the post for 2 months - I moved to England during that time - then they were shipped to England, I flew them back to Italy, then back to England. They've asked for a holiday, and what could I say? haha
It's been a meaniningful project, and I am grateful to Betty not only for the idea and her generosity but also her kindness.
The meetup was fun, yeah! Got some footage but haven't put it into the computer yet. Have some school things to juggle before I can sit down and edit. And because of the location of many of the upcoming gatherings, it looks like this will be my last for a while.
Thank you Bob! It was a labour of love really. Lots of emotions wrapped up in the project, my personal life seeing dramatic changes, all witnessed by the shoes. They're ready to continue on their journey now that I'm settled!

I did put a lot of effort into this film because I felt the project deserved it - but it was a meaningful process, both the participation and the events in my life during 'the making of'. I was sad about the compression factor - I still haven't mastered that here on YT even if the do allow larger files and images now. Lopez island is in puget sound and I believe is part of the San Juan islands. I guess it's one of those places you never visit when you live there - only if you're NOT from there. LOL

Okay girl, don't think I don't read this stuff. HA! Listen, I've thought about this. My Mom's first husband, Andre, was gay (hence the name "first" husband). Long story. I met him after my Dad died. This is going to take a couple of posts to explain. He was my sister's Dad, and my sister died when my Dad (her adopted Dad) died. My Mom took me to meet my sister's real Dad after that, and he tried very hard to be a Dad to me since my Dad had just died. He and my Mom grieved together over...
...the loss of my sister, and I was a little involved with that too. Andre, I want to say, served most honorably in the US Army during WWII in France, doing special assignments that I was told by both of my parents few were able to do because of Andre's unique language abilities (he spoke several languages fluently) and high degree of intelligence. It was my great honor to hold onto his military medals and so forth until I was able to put them into the hands of his grandson. Inasmuch as he...
tried to be a Dad to me until he died, I would be more than honored if those shoes made an appearance in the gay pride parade. I think my Dad would approve. He was a very conservative man, but he spoke very highly of Andre too. My Mom and I went to Andre's funeral. After the service, we hugged his partner, and told him that we loved him. This was the way of my family.

I have had them for several weeks and have been quite nervous carting them between Italy and England, always afraid of dropping them in the gap pf the trains, off a cliff, in the airport, always double-checking to make sure I have them. I was debating whether or not to split this into two parts as I rarely do upload anything over 5 minutes, but decided to keep it in one piece in the end. (plus I worked hard to get it edited down to exactly 10 minutes!)

Thanks so much chica! The shoes have been on a rollercoaster ride with me- they came to Italy, got lost in the post for 2 months - I moved to England during that time - then they were shipped to England, I flew them back to Italy, then back to England. They've asked for a holiday, and what could I say? haha
It's been a meaniningful project, and I am grateful to Betty not only for the idea and her generosity but also her kindness.

The meetup was fun, yeah! Got some footage but haven't put it into the computer yet. Have some school things to juggle before I can sit down and edit. And because of the location of many of the upcoming gatherings, it looks like this will be my last for a while.

wow- What a wonderful compliment you have given me. I did put a lot of effort into this film because I felt the project deserved it - but it was a meaningful process, both the participation and the events in my life during 'the making of'. I was sad about the compression factor - I still haven't mastered that here on YT even if the do allow larger files and images now. Oh well, I think the message I wanted to convey works anyway even though is scrunched a bit!

Lopez island is in puget sound and I believe is part of the San Juan islands. I guess it's one of those places you never visit when you live there - only if you're NOT from there. LOL

tried to be a Dad to me until he died, I would be more than honored if those shoes made an appearance in the gay pride parade. I think my Dad would approve. He was a very conservative man, but he spoke very highly of Andre too. My Mom and I went to Andre's funeral. After the service, we hugged his partner, and told him that we loved him. This was the way of my family.

Woohoo you really took those shoes to some terrific places, older even than the shoes. I love your commentary translating the journey of the shoes into mankind's journey. Truth is I freaked out when that pidgeon came swooping down because he tried to grab the shoes - can you imagine? Virginia to California to Texas to New York to Italy to England...back to Italy...only to come to rest in..a pidgeon's nest!

Thank you. I am getting ready to pack up the shoes - it's hard to say good bye - I can't imagine how Betty did! I have had them for several weeks and have been quite nervous carting them between Italy and England, always afraid of dropping them in the gap pf the trains, off a cliff, in the airport, always double-checking to make sure I have them. I'm a wreck! LOL
