  • Wow. Now that's one hell of a video Lesley & i can't believe that i've not commented on it before!

A great message there. I loved the Carl Sagan quote, one of my faves.

And thanks for bringing back good memories of making that very same train journey by the coast, many years ago :)

  • well thank you Andy. The travelling shoes have been near and dear to my heart since the beginning - which is hard to believe but began 18 months ago!

I was hoping someone would recognize that stunning view from the train! :)

  • I just love those little pair of shoes...so cute:)

    Great video...great words of wisdom!

    Thanks for sharing Bobchai:)

  • The shoes really are darling - and I just love the idea of them traveling around the world bringing people together. Thank you for watching and thanks Bob!

  • Dear Lesley, what a beautiful video this is, and so true. You got me there nailed to my chair for 10 min. excellent!! thanks for continuing this great project. cheers, jeroen

  • Thank you Jeroen. (I replied before but it didn't stick!)

This video is one that took me the longest to make - in both filming and editing, so I really appreciate your attention span! I hope the shoes come to you one day. :)

  • I usually pass vids that are 10 min but I am glad I did not pass this thanks

  • I concur. Most excellent!

  • thank you! most kind you are!

  • I'm one of those people, too. 10 minutes is long for me, and I had considered making 2 films but in the end decided to keep it together. Thank you so much for watching. :)

  • Besides being a wonderful video, I watched it as just the right time, the words gave me pause for thought.

  • Thank you Minn. That mean a lot, I think we should all pause and reflect on what's really important now and then. xx

  • Such a creative video, truly enjoyed it! :)

  • thank you, I appreciate that very much :)

  • Wow! Wow! Wow! I don't know - you stay away a a few weeks and find YouTube much changed, your YT pal has become a partner, and she's uploaded one of her best works yet. It was fabulous and had me smiling for ten whole minutes! (That should do wonders for my jowels). Fantastic editing. I'm awestruck :) Hugs, Nathan x

  • hahaha when I set out to make an uplifting video I hadn't imagined it would do wonders for someone's jowls! hahha Holy crap it's great tp hear from you my friend! And such a compliment.

    wow. xxx

  • Oh, my goodness! To think that I almost missed this precious gem. I am placing it gently into my favourites. You are amazing Lesley. hugs, Chris

  • Thank you Chris! I've enjoyed this project so much, it's been a gift.

    xx

  • Lesley..that was excellent! Bravo! I finally got a chance to watch the whole thing. I am glad you are making videos again. I noticed your videos start automatic on your channel...If you think I am going to call you "Lady Lesley" you got another thing comin :) I favorited this vid.

  • Thanks Sir Vic. I make videos in waves - right now I'm on a wave, but the tide may go out again soon! I know I have that autoplay thing on my channel and it's already annoying the hell out of me. LOL

You don't have to call me Lady Lesley. Your Highness will do! hehehe

  • I have been "the girl behind the troll" (Ben Travelin a traveling troll) for the last year.

Nobody knows who or how he got started while he is hand made, he lacks the charm of the shoes. I must start the films from the beginning to follow the foot steps.

  • I must be an ostrich because I don't know about a ttaveling troll! I must investigate!

Be sure to check out the playlist on Betty's channel. Thanks for watching!

    Lesley :)

  • I have started watching..there are plenty to catch up on.

Ben Travelin has been around under the radar at colleges. I was the first to give him an outside view on MySpace then YouTube. So its not that you are an ostrich.

    Nota

  • yes, he's very talented - he made his video around last August I believe.

  • aHA! funny you should mention it- the last person who had the shoes is an artist here on You Tube, MrAtomicUS5000 and he did a portrait of Betty and the shoes - bt the story or the journey would be a fine subject!

  • Thank you! I was really inspired by this project :)

  • this is one of your finest pieces yet. I'm honored to have been a small part of it.

    thank you

    jason

  • Thank you Jason. Your music MAKES the film, it is I who thank YOU. You are such a talent and sharing your music is so generous and a great gift to all of us.

    Lesley xx

  • Beautiful Lesley... I can't believe what you did with the shoes... OMG!!! They seem to be having soooo much fun!!! Weeeh!!! Thank you soooo much for the post! :D

  • Thanks Karla! The shoes have had a rollercoaster ride! LOL I think they're ready to move on down the road hehehe

  • LeSaMilano: Lesley!!! Lesley!!! They went to Mexico too!!! XD

  • Darling where have you hidden the boot polish? xxx

  • must be around here somewhere but I think it's passed its sell-by date!

  • Those little shoes get around:)

  • those boots were made for walking!

  • I just had to watch this again. It is so brilliant. You are a true artist.

  • Thank you so much, Marc. Between the shoes, The Alps, Italy and the English countryside, I had a lot to work with. xxx

  • Shoes with souls indeed.

  • Indeed, with heeling powers. ;)

  • And with no tongue in cheek!

  • Somehow I foresaw a tonque pun - I knew you'd slip 'er in!

  • And toe cap it all, this video was laced with love to boot!

  • I'm a loafer, not a fighter!

  • I ecco that remark.

  • I see we've fallen into a familiar patten

  • But we shouldn't let that clog the issue.

  • It's the same old espadrille- I hate to be ped-antic!

  • I would never moccasin-gle thing you say. I'd skate round it Instead.

  • Zori but I think I'm all tapped out

  • Beautiful video :)

  • But if it was nae fer yer wellies what would ye dooo?!

  • I'd be in the hospital or infirmary. Apparently.

  • Excellent! 5 *****

    Gaby

  • Thank you for watching, I appreciate it and thanks for the stars! :)

  • This editing is shocking freaking fabolus!

  • thank you Val my editing sorellina!

  • YES We aRE editing sorellinas!

  • Lesley I feel absolutely speechless.

In getting to know you, I should never be amazed at such beautiful work ... but you seem to outdo yourself with each project. So I feel amazed again. How you can take a simple subject and make it into such a masterpiece.......truly beautiful, magnificent, brilliant, heart rending, thoughtful, amazing, meaningful, and on and on.

This should be viewed by the world. It's one of those things that can touch every heart. I love what you do. Cecilia xoxoxoxoxox!

  • Thank you Cecilia - you know there are some things that come along that touch your heart, and this project did that for me, so I am glad I could share that with my friends here. Thank you so much for you glowing praise, which I must share with my friend Betty because without her little shoes and faith in people, we wouldn't be here enjoying them.

    xxx

  • Very cool. Loved the footage! :)

  • thank you! Italy and England make it easy to film good stuff! :)

  • A great video, 5 stars. A friend sent me this video.

I especially liked the part in the middle (5:15) about Earth & humanity. Your monologue at the end also brought a few tears to my eyes. =)

    Again, well done!

  • Thank you - that is a brilliant passage by Carl Sagan from A Mote of Dust Reflected on a Sunbeam and Pale Blue Dot, a masterpiece in my opinion. He actually spoke those words delivering a commencement address and the full speech is remarkable.

thank you for watching and for your kind comment. Lesley :)

  • Yes, third attempt at leaving a comment...I think maybe I am oh about 1,000,000 characters over the limit with my last two comments - maybe that's why they are not appearing - but how can one not go over the limit when trying to describe how wonderful your video is?

Sagan's pale blue dot should be renamed to blinding brilliant dot - made radiant by Betty, the shoes, and the entire Traveling Shoes Team to date, including your beautiful video, Lesley.

  • Annie, I don't know what to say - except thank you, what a thoughtful and generous comment. xx

  • Lesley, I think you are probably the best person to be the next link in this fabulously pointless and beautiful chain. I watched your contributions, then worked my way back to Kalacaw and I hope to follow those little shoes as far as I can!

    WOWEEE!!!!

  • yippee! Thanks for joining the tour -It's a great project and a generous proposition to send someting you treasure around the world - to trust people enough without knowing them to keep the shoes safe.

  • I just got back from toobstock, Lesley. That's why I'm just seeing this now.

Your videos have often touched the deepest part of my soul, Lesley. I have told you that before, but if ever I have been without words to express my gratitude, I am without them now. I will love you forever for this. Should time itself come to a screeching halt, I will love you beyond that. I don't know what else to say in this rare moment but "thank you."

    video reply coming ...

  • Oh I can't wait to hear about toobstcok Betty. I hope you enjoyed yourself.

Consider this a welcome home present. I am so grateful to have been a part of this project Betty - it has special meaning for me in that through this process I have gotten to know you and know what a unique individual you are. Thank YOU.

    xxx

  • I am awestruck.. YouTube at its very best.. and you at what you always always manage to do.. utterly fantastic and inspirational! I don't often sit through a 10 min vid, but this one I will watch again.. Five, Fav & Feature goes without saying!! But I said it anyway.. it deserved more, but YT only gives me those 3 ways of showing my appreciation.. :)

  • It's feedback like this that really makes our efforts here worthwhile Rob. Thank you so much.

I was debating whether or not to split this into two parts as I rarely do upload anything over 5 minutes, but decided to keep it in one piece in the end. (plus I worked hard to get it edited down to exactly 10 minutes!)

    thanks for the 3 Fs!

    xxx

  • Lesley, You never fail to amaze me but this has left me in awe! So much seen and said and felt in one short video! A masterpiece made with a pair of shoes.

  • Gosh thanks so much Cindy, your comment means a lot. I have really enjoyed being part of this and can't wait to see where they go.

    xx

  • Oustanding Les, this story is so touching and transcending. Your expression and journey with those shoes , cuts right to the Heart, and gives so much honor to this Love Story! Frikkin awesome chic!!

  • Thanks so much chica! The shoes have been on a rollercoaster ride with me- they came to Italy, got lost in the post for 2 months - I moved to England during that time - then they were shipped to England, I flew them back to Italy, then back to England. They've asked for a holiday, and what could I say? haha

It's been a meaniningful project, and I am grateful to Betty not only for the idea and her generosity but also her kindness.

  • *goosebumps*

I'm not even going to try to leave a witty or fancy comment right now. Just know that I enjoyed this ride immensely and was impressed.

    As always.

    xoxo

  • Thank you Curt. A comment like this goes a long way. xoxox

I guess you had a blast in SD? You're becoming quite the veteran at these meetups!

  • The meetup was fun, yeah! Got some footage but haven't put it into the computer yet. Have some school things to juggle before I can sit down and edit. And because of the location of many of the upcoming gatherings, it looks like this will be my last for a while.

    :-(

  • This is absolutely brilliant! Beautiful visually, the narration is heartbreakingly inspiring. This is a great piece of work!

  • Thank you Bob! It was a labour of love really. Lots of emotions wrapped up in the project, my personal life seeing dramatic changes, all witnessed by the shoes. They're ready to continue on their journey now that I'm settled!

  • I've been waiting MONTHS to find out about the traveling shoes. What a wonderful film maker you are, Leslie. Thank you. And has anyone mentioned that this story has POPULAR CHILDREN'S BOOK written all over it?! I'm an elementary teacher and would love someone to write a children's book about this.

  • Thank you so much! I love making videos as s hobby that's for sure - if it was my 'work' I think it would not be as fun. Very interesting idea you have there.

    *wheels turning*

  • Expertly crafted, both visually and aurally. You've done great service to the subject matter. Who would have thought that such tiny shoes could have stirred such big emotion?;)

  • Thanks for that great comment Andy. I really fell in love with the idea from the beginning. I'm so glad I got to particiapte and am looking forward to seeing other people's reactions to the little shoes :)

  • Lisa, I'm in shock! This is unparalleled cinematic excellence...

I aspire to one day make videos 1/10 as well made as this one. Have I said "WOW!" yet?

I see how much you put into this, not only technical ability,

but heart and soul! Fifteen stars if it lets me rate three times...

  • gosh I don't know what to say to that comment, ...let me be the one to say WOW.

    thank you very much :)

  • You're totally welcome! I have not enjoyed a video as much as I enjoyed this one in a very long time!

  • How cool!!!

  • Thanks Mother :)

  • What a great, life affirming video.

  • Thank you - it was a long process getting it done - but one I'll remember for a long time. Especially that moment when the pidgeon nearly took off with those shoes! augh! LOL

  • how do you get on the list to take them on a journey?-id love to take them through sweden & australia when i visit home again.~peace, ben

  • wow - that would be a great journey indeed. You're on the list now - you never know!

  • i love what you've done with this vid-beautifully done~peace, ben.

  • Thank you Ben. It's a project i'm proud to be a part of.

  • Hiya Reid! Thanks - not every day I get connected with the word 'cool' LOL :)

  • Wow, Im absolutely blown away with this video. Such Quality. I've said this before and I'll say it again, you are truely gifted:) Your video making skills are to be commended. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Such a wonderful story. Take Care

  • wow- What a wonderful compliment you have given me. I did put a lot of effort into this film because I felt the project deserved it - but it was a meaningful process, both the participation and the events in my life during 'the making of'. I was sad about the compression factor - I still haven't mastered that here on YT even if the do allow larger files and images now. Oh well, I think the message I wanted to convey works anyway even though is scrunched a bit!

    thanks again Tess

    xx

  • wow.. that was totally awesome! You are totally awesome. I loved it. I've been tracking the kalacaw's traveling shoes and so happy. I hope one day I'll get to have the shoes for Seattle. Hee hee. Anyways, take care! loved the video.

  • Thank you so much. It's an exciting project and I love the idea of something so personal touching many different lives.

Seattle is a great city - I think the shoes would like to take a ferry to Lopez!

  • i know how lame as this sounds.. where is Lopez! LOL Yeah, I have places in mind for the shoes when I get them... space needle, EMP, if I ever get them by June.. to the gay pride parade (LMAO), and... ofcourse the fish market in Pike's Market place.. oh wow, now I'm getting excited. lol Anyways, can't wait to see the next place, too. I love watching all these creative people! ^.^

  • Lopez island is in puget sound and I believe is part of the San Juan islands. I guess it's one of those places you never visit when you live there - only if you're NOT from there. LOL

Of course they's have to visit the Space needle and Pike's Market(love it!) - Anyway - stay tuned. I'll put you on the list and forward it to Betty. :)

  • Okay girl, don't think I don't read this stuff. HA! Listen, I've thought about this. My Mom's first husband, Andre, was gay (hence the name "first" husband). Long story. I met him after my Dad died. This is going to take a couple of posts to explain. He was my sister's Dad, and my sister died when my Dad (her adopted Dad) died. My Mom took me to meet my sister's real Dad after that, and he tried very hard to be a Dad to me since my Dad had just died. He and my Mom grieved together over...

  • ...the loss of my sister, and I was a little involved with that too. Andre, I want to say, served most honorably in the US Army during WWII in France, doing special assignments that I was told by both of my parents few were able to do because of Andre's unique language abilities (he spoke several languages fluently) and high degree of intelligence. It was my great honor to hold onto his military medals and so forth until I was able to put them into the hands of his grandson. Inasmuch as he...

  • tried to be a Dad to me until he died, I would be more than honored if those shoes made an appearance in the gay pride parade. I think my Dad would approve. He was a very conservative man, but he spoke very highly of Andre too. My Mom and I went to Andre's funeral. After the service, we hugged his partner, and told him that we loved him. This was the way of my family.

  • aweee! what an awesome story. Yeah Gay Pride Parade in Seattle is in June. It's the weekend that I"m actually off so, I'm going with Geni2000. I think it's her actual first time. I think it'd be really great to take photos with all the hot gay men there LMAO Let alone all the cool drag queens :)

  • I stil can't get used to the missing "L", Esley x

  • isten, you' simpy have to get over it, overboy xx

  • Yes Lelsey dear - it's an 'l of a job keeping up your Merican speeling xx

  • what can i say.thats the biz.xx

  • and I mean bizness! xx

  • I think Betty's grandfather would weep with joy know his shoes and traveled the world and meant so much to those who had them. I thought your video was brilliant.

  • Thank you fpr that thought Van.

Hey! aren't you in San Diego? Kiss Michael for me! And Gina! Curt! Jason! Oh hell, everybody.

  • I have my chapstick and I'm ready to commence with the kissing.

  • best lube for Best Tube!

  • LOL

  • The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page. ~St. Augustine

Thank you for taking us ALL on the journey of the little shoes;) What a fabulous idea;) The meaning is so worthwhile and Les, your take on it has brought harmony to a new level.

FEATURE!!!!!! YES, this should be featured!!

    Hellllooo YT, anyone home?????

I shall watch again and again. Grazie;)

    Hug Lesley, Marylou ^-^

    5 stars and faved;)

  • Thank you for your praise Mary Lou. Getting one of your comments sprinkles my page with smiles.

Shhh! - If I ever got featured, I'm sure someone would inform me I'm old, gay, fat, and that I wasted 10 minutes of their life. And what would make me most mad is that I couldn't waste more of it and spare some of mine! LOL

    xx

  • Amazing film! You could win awards with this.

  • Thanks Tia! golly! Being able to participate is reward enough for me. xx

  • You my friend are excellent! I love this story about the shoes as well, I offered to bring them to England last year. Betty had an awesome idea with this can't wait to see where they turn up next.

  • Thanks darlin! That would have been cool if you could have brought them on that trip. Maybe they'll get to a You Tube gathering some day! It's a great story - as Henry Miller onve wrote, (and I paraphrase) 'It's not about the destination, but the journey'

  • 5 Stars!

    This was wonderful.

  • thank you Tink! I love the message of the project.

  • Oh, and how do I get on the list to get the shoes?

  • you just did. :)

  • Coolsome.

  • Superb video! I hope someone will take the time to do a fantastic video such as this with my Traveling Painting Project. It's on it's way to the UK now. To a user named RobLeepopart. Another great vidoe Lesley!

  • I'm thrilled the painting is going to Rob Lee! how cool is that?

Thanks so much, it's been a long time coming -the shoes project is close to my heart.

  • That was a great watch Lesa, thanks! Faved!:)

  • Thanks Anthony I'm flattered! :)

  • Woohoo you really took those shoes to some terrific places, older even than the shoes. I love your commentary translating the journey of the shoes into mankind's journey. Opening up our eyes to the potential we all have here on this planet and our communication through our journeys. I think Betty will be so thrilled by the spirit of this part of the journey. Cheers, Lesley

  • I think you hit the nail on the head Lesley, 'Opening up our eyes to the potential we all have here on this planet and our communication through our journeys' - now why didn't I think of that?! Could have saved a few dozen hours editing! hehehe

Keep your eyes peeled for my next vlog :)

  • Eyes well and truly peeled for their next leg, I get so excited I can't imagine how Betty feels! L x

  • Beautiful video Lesley!!! That was certainly quite a sendoff for the tiny shoes. Let's hope the postal systems of the world are careful with them! My favorite visual was when you were holding them and the pigeon flew up to your hand.

  • Thanks Robert! I wish I could hand carry them to the next destination but you can't trust the airlines either! Maybe I should have gotten that pidgeon's number! LOL

Truth is I freaked out when that pidgeon came swooping down because he tried to grab the shoes - can you imagine? Virginia to California to Texas to New York to Italy to England...back to Italy...only to come to rest in..a pidgeon's nest!

  • You Rock, Girlfriend! : )

    This is so beautiful!

    Peace and Love,

    Angie

  • Thank you Angie! This was one of my favourite projects on You Tube, and because it all began so many months ago it means even more to me that I got to participate.

  • This is an amazing piece of work and a beautiful testimony to the shoes...yes, excellent to each other. -harmony, JR

  • Thank you JR. I received the shoes in the midst of a difficult, interesting and exciting time in my personal life, so I will always remember this from that perspective.

  • You can tell in this video the shoes have a significant meaning more than just the adventure of them alone. It's interesting how in those periods of our lives, things can take on a related significance.

  • great reply. Yes, sort of like songs from various moments of your life can bring back the memory and feeling of everything going on around you from that particular time. :)

  • WOW!!! That was a hundred movies in one -- and indeed aimed straight at the sole. One of your bestest vids you wonderful darlingness you. I know how much time and effort you put into that - getting everything interlaced -- tied up for hours you were. But I mustn't rave about you too much so I will slipper way and let everyone else watch it in peace xxx

  • Wow darling! -I am all tongue-tied and am in quite a leather over your comment to boot! It means a lot coming from such a well-heeled gentleman. LU xx

  • I may need to polish up my editing xx

  • I might be per-sueded to assist! x

  • and will I get hugs to boot?

  • of course - I wouldn't want you to suffer the agony of de feet! x

  • Shoe is good of ya ma'am x

  • These comments are good for the sole.

  • You been strolling through them I see

  • It's feng shoe ;)

  • Be careful you don't get tongue tied.

  • and you too, what with all that kissing you're about to embark on.

  • Tell us more about Les being tied up for hours..or better yet, make a vid.

  • I think we already did - oh wait - that's one that won't make it to You Tube! LOL

  • What a beautiful vid, Lesley. I felt the excitement of the journey all the way. Perfect in all the details and uplifting to the heart!

    :D Excellent!

  • Thank you Liz! I think this is one of the nicest sharing-around-the-world projects on You Tube that I know of. I hate to see the shoes move on but at the same time I've been a nervous wreck keeping track of them on planes-trains-buses-automobiles and windy cliffs! xx

  • Very well done, Lesley!

My favorite part was your quote at the end about being excellent to each other.

    xx

    Dianne

  • Thanks Dianne. Being excellent to each other at all times is hard to do but a good goal!

    xx

  • Brilliant!

    In so many ways.

From my favorite John Lennon line to the Ono glasses at the end and everything in between.

I found myself wishing there was another camera filming you with a camera holding the shoes out in front of you on your hand.

    Outstanding!

    Peace.

  • Thank you my friend. Ha! makes me re-think those sunglasses of mine!

I was so nervous having those shoes in one hand and the camera in another - especially during that gusty day up on top of a rock on Dartmoor!

    :)

  • just so you know. it makes me happy to be called your friend.

    And brian as well.

i think you are really talented and soulful.

I actually thought (my bias) that you were willfully encapsulating the best of lennon's message and therefore i thought the glasses were puposefully ono.

    peace.

  • I really did get a kick out of your Ono comment and took it as a compliemt. You always see so many details of my vids and it's refreshing. Thank you so much. I missed you when you were gone for that spell. x

  • Excellent! What a wonderful message! I was wondering where those little shoe had gone.

  • Thank you. I am getting ready to pack up the shoes - it's hard to say good bye - I can't imagine how Betty did! I have had them for several weeks and have been quite nervous carting them between Italy and England, always afraid of dropping them in the gap pf the trains, off a cliff, in the airport, always double-checking to make sure I have them. I'm a wreck! LOL

  • Made me want to applaud at the end. Well done.

  • Thank you! Next time we'll have an intermission and serve drinks and snacks. :)

  • Ooh! Snacks!!

  • ..as long as there are no beans.

  • there is plenty of wind out here without the beans!
