As far as the 909 goes this is about as basic a sequence as you can get ... Don't get me wrong, the 909 is awesome - just this is pretty vanilla. I have a 909 and you can get a lot of variety by chaining patterns together or inserting them manually.
@interstellar10 ..pretty vanilla!??? I thought it was mint choc chip ! like I say on the description this was the first sequence I did with no midi when I first got hold one. I have done a lot more on it since ,released several e.p's but I know what you meen the stuff that Jeff Mills does with one is amazing but then again some other videos posted are pretty tame too. LOL
That's it I have decided I can't not have a TR-909 any longer but reading online about the TR-909 in anticipation of buying one i have read that there are MIDI & Din issues when slaved. Have you experienced this?
yeah. You can get around this by chaining it off a TR-707 or 727 or buying a midi synchronizer like a Korg KMS30 which I had..the TR-909 midi is not the best as midi was only just brought In when It was manufactured.
I just got mine, but I hardly get any respons when turning the decay on the bass kick. Do you think you can post a video when you just play around with the bass kick for 30 secs and turn tune, decay etc?
the 909 has a more solid bassdrum harsher hats. Its claps are similar to the 808. The 808 has that deep bass drum with loads od decay and has the sweet electro sound & is 100% analogue and crooses over into RnB and hip hop (marvin gaye-sexual healing's beat is 808 )...the 909 is really for techno and house only ....pete ;D
yeah sure the 808 is a mega machine too. When I first listened to those great Detroit trax from around 87' I mainly just noticed the 909's sound but its nice to listen to them again and you here a lot of 808's used aswell as the 909. I had a 707 too and that had that great early house feel that was graet on earlt chicago house trax like Armando "Land Of Confusion"
shit, i love it 0:55 when those raw claps come in

the decay on the 909 is not quite as strong as the 808's decay you may need to route the bassdrum out to get big decay ;D

Can you get anything besides drums with a 909? I mean like melodic things and pad sounds.
Good jam!

TR 909 is a 80's drumachine: so you have to expect awesome drum sounds only!!
For pads and leads you have to play another instrument :)

I'm new to the machines, but not new to the beats. Any main or drastic difference between the 808 & 909?
thanks for posting

Ive heared some early 80s funk tunes with a 909,
it sounded really weird
mmmrenkas 2 years ago
Basicly if you want punchy drumsq (techno'ish) then go for the 909
If you want deep and booming sound (r&b'ish) then go for the 808.
But keep in mind that you can make great techno with the 808 also and great r&b with the 909. Its just to give you an idea how they sound different

I must admit that I'm not a big fan of the 909, but I have to congratulate you on your acquisition. I'm sure you'll make good use of it.
Let's hear it with that Revolution in the background, eh?
