  • Well, I think the most useful thing to do would be to teach everyone how to use google in order to search for answer on forums / blogs, instead of wasting other's people time.

  • i got a text from my mom and i was ecstatic. well i was until i found it she asked a stranger to text me using her phone

  • This happens to me all the time. My family wants to help them with technology lol

  • lol at these comments from old people... "MY SITUATION IS DIFFERENT THEREFORE I CAN'T POSSIBLE ACCEPT THAT OTHER PEOPLE MY AGE ARE NOT TECH-SAAVY"

Sorry grandpa, but the truth is millions of us have parents and relatives who can barely turn on a computer. When I go home for the holidays I am shuttled around from one relative's system to the next, uninstalling a billion search bars and running depressingly successful virus scans. It's not ageist to comment on this fact.

  • If all the parents learn tech then there will be no iphone sale...lol

  • My Parents know TECH.

  • Your parents know very well how to use a computer. They are asking because they want to communicate with their children, with you. They are not dumb, quite the contrary: they are very intelligent emotionally AND rationally.

  • PM me for Google+ invite.

  • @leilamelgratti Did you invite your parents :D

  • @v9vREBORN I'm probably about your age and I know Objective C, Java and HTML 5

  • Odio usar esto para decir que llevo un mes tratando de ver videos de youtube y estoy teniendo problemas se queda "cargando". he tratado varias alternativas para arreglar pero ningun resultado ?Alguien mas tiene el mismo problema?

Hate to use this space to say during last month I'm having problems to see youtube videos it "freeze" during loading. Itry several options nothing works. Anyone else with this problem?

  • FUCK YOU AGE-IST PRICKS.

  • My mom could not figure out how to type an address in the address bar. >.>

  • I did NOT search out this video. It was linked on Facebook through our University library--I'm hoping as a joke--and I thought it might be something that could help my students. Sorry--many of the "younger technology centered generation" are incapable of putting together a formatted document. It is not an assumption; it is a situation I deal with everyday. Climb down from your sanctimonious pedestal and stop age stereotyping.

  • @vuprof Are you kidding? Are you seriously are telling me to stop age stereotyping, when your defense to your earlier ASSUMPTION was for the most part a definition of the term? And yes that was an assumption, perhaps one based on a situation you deal with everyday, but an assumption nonetheless. I am in no way age stereotyping, I did not make this video, I am not disputing SOME "kids" and adults cannot correctly structure a document, and I am not saying all adults are technologically challenged

  • @Yargus15 No, I'm not kidding; no, I'm not making assumptions since I see this everyday. It is a sad reality that many face. Unfortunately, many techno-oriented young people express condescension toward anyone old enough to be their parents, a situation that rankles though of us who were programming on Apple IIc computers before they were born.

  • @vuprof The "Are you kidding?" remark was directed towards you accusing me of stereotyping based on age, not whether or not you made an assumption. I am however having some difficulty grasping your notion of the word. As far as I am concerned implying that the majority of the "self-appointed tech wonders" in this video lack some fundamental skill, when you possess absolutely none of the information about them that would be required to justly support that conclusion, is making an assumption.

  • @Yargus15 If you read carefully, I asked if they could. The ones I meet in this age bracket, for the most part, can't. It's not an assumption; it's reality. Knowing how to load an iPod does not necessarily mean that someone can prepare documents for college. Texting does not translate to keyboard skills. Condescension pisses me off. If you wish to continue ranting, go for it. You'll do it alone.

  • @vuprof I didn't ever say that you said they didn't know how, I said that you implied they couldn't which you did. You didn't ask "can you correctly format a document?", you asked "How many of these self-appointed tech wonders know how to format a document correctly?" You didn't address them, you addressed the general public. It was a rhetorical question that you used to try to convey your point. You were implying that they couldn't. Based on a assumption you were making. (and yes texting does).

  • @vuprof I'm not ranting I'm simply informing you that you are not justified in correcting anyone's behavior. You are the one stereotyping, you are the one forming uneducated opinions, you are the one speaking condescendingly. Maybe these students you mentioned could write a proper document if they had a half decent teacher. Now I suggest you take your own advice and just stop making a fool of yourself, we both know you were wrong and just proven so by an 18 year old highschool student. Good day.

  • @Yargus15 : If I could give my honest opinion, I'd say that you're winning this argument. Well done, you must be a great debater. :D

  • ingrates.

  • Umm... this is a little embarrassing, but I don't know how to play this video.

  • Old people don't use Windows 7, you need a Windows 95 addition.

  • google sucks

  • All the videos are Mac, WTH?

  • @Iniquious yeah most of them. And any parent that spends the money to get a mac but isn't willing to learn how to use a computer is retarded.

  • LOL all my mom does is go on facebook and youtube! THANKS GOOGLE!

and just for the record i am using Google Chrome Brower now

  • Hey ... thanx kids!

  • This looks really helpful! Now I won't have my mom pestering me with tech questions.

  • americans are uglee,quite a few of them,oooooow uglee.

  • Ever dawn on you that some of us older people were using computers before you were born? Some of us actually laid the groundwork for what you're using now. (Some of us know .NET and Ruby as well as assembler.)

  • Stop treating older people like sub-species :(

  • Nicely done! Now I only have to teach english to my parents.

  • Funny video and very true.

  • Thank you so much for this. My parents just got a computer again after not having one for several years and then they were on dial up. Eventually they gave up on the computer and the internet. I am sure this will help. Sent a care package with just 7 video links to get them started.

  • How many of these self-appointed tech wonders know how to format a document correctly? As someone who could be any one of these kids' mother, I resent their attitude and automatic assumption that anyone a generation removed from them is technologically inferior. I am perfectly capable of getting along without their help.

  • @vuprof Then why were you watching this video? Don't look up help videos if your intention is to complain at the thought of being helped. If you do not want assistance with technology that's perfectly fine, no one is forcing you. And I must say I resent your assumption that we, as a younger technology centered generation, couldn't format a document correctly correctly. The Youtube community is perfectly capable of getting along without your unnecessary comments.

  • More Windows based videos please!

  • I love it...for myself

  • ¥T

  • If I ever get so out of touch as my mother, i'd rather die because then, I won't be of use to antbody.

  • So...what about for foreign parents?

Can not read or understand English that well!

  • @xGunMoll yep

my parents dont even know ABCD..

    lol

  • @xGunMoll Most of the time foreign parents visit foreign websites.

And sites like google, youtube, gmail, facebook etc exist in many languages : )

  • Cool vid.

  • SUB

  • Nice

  • thank god im a baby we know rocket science phew

  • Funny video and very true.

  • YESTERDAY IS HERE.

  • i think it is really sweet... nice idea, google!

  • OAKsKOASkoaSkoAKOAOKsokaSkoAKsaos'

    Love it..

  • "Me not understunned. Translationa tomorrow not." The page is usable for English speakers only. When translated to my parents native language (Polish) it looked like the nonsense wrote at the beginning of this comment...

  • and of course there are always those ten BASTARDS who have no friends... thats why they h8 these vids...

  • Well.. my mom is 33 (I'm 16). She's pretty updated lol so I don't have to teach her. My grandmother's pretty aware, too (she has facebook lol). Funny, It's my 29 year old step-dad who seems to have problems.

  • @xCirca1994x she had you at 17?

  • @cj19941222 lol yeah. 16 turning 17.

  • I'm a father and a grandparent who was born in the decade that brought you Eric Schmidt, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. And I make a pretty decent living as a software consultant. Our website, which I coded from scratch, includes the right level of social media integration. Am I the only one who finds this stuff patronizing and ageist? Now, you little b@stards, get off my lawn!

  • YESTERDAY IS HERE.

  • Internet...?

  • this shit is trending and wikileaks isn't? screw you, twitter. seriously.

  • Once you smartarse kids show your parents that website.. go and look up "how to mow the lawn"... Thanks

  • @hater1 shut up these are not kids 16 year old you dumb btich

  • @hater1 go and look up, how not to be a troll.

  • @hater1 Embrace technology with dignity and triumph over it with confidence and thorough completion. Times change, people obviously don't.

  • @hater1 This isn't "hating," it's just common sense towards a generation of kids who would rather sit than work. Giving people, any people, that choice from childhood, what do you think they're going to choose? I saw this behavior coming, but I couldn't prevail against Dad and 4 boys. I tried and failed. They are lazy, but smart. The "lazy" still makes me feel a failure. Someone has to do the grunt work however, hence the tolerance towards illegal aliens.

    Mother of Techies

  • @hater1 I usually make sure there is nothing on the lawn, and check that there's enough gas and motor oil in the mower. Then all you need to do is yank the pull cord (some have safety guards you have to hold down while pulling) then just push it up and down the yard in lines making sure not to miss any spots.

  • @hater1 : LOL, I know right? It's sad how many kids can't handle even the simplest forms of manual labor. Lol, non-direct stereotypes are funny. Thanks for the laugh, and this is coming from a 15 year old. :)

  • 9 . bb/7MY <--- link

  • @leehauyuan It's actually Tchaikovsky Nutcracker suite 3, the sugar plum fairy suite.

  • yess!!! thank you so much for posting this! my mom wants to use facebook but she kinda gets afraid with using the computer so i have to start from scratch to teach her!

  • GOOGLE OWNS THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Good and easy to understand videos ans also a great idea!

BUT: I think Windows and MAC should be divided more clearly, because often you have to watch the video to know, if it's for MAC or Windows. Hope this comment was helpful!

  • My mom likes to talk about people on facebook and accidently puts it on her wall instead of a message!!

  • lol You guys all actually genuinely think you know your way around a computer and how it works.

    Cute. :)

  • @Mrxb0x lol I watched a video you edited on your channel, like your one to talk :p

  • @Yargus15 What is a node?

lol aren't ya glad you have google? We both know you didn't have the answer to that simple question. How about another extremely basic one, what is a port? What is onion routing?

    Easy stuff.

  • @Mrxb0x I could have answered that question without google thanks, as you said...simple question. I'll admit onion routing was a term that I was unfamiliar with, and after looking it up it obvious why. It is a network technique of encrypting and decrypting data, it hardly has to do with computer function I could find hundreds (not an exaggeration) of processing methods and coding techniques, you have never heard of. You physically cant know them all, it's a forever growing vocabulary.

  • its soo true:)

  • Its going to be interesting to see my generation (20 somethings) become parents, be in their 40s-80s or however long they live and be just as tech savvy as the new generation of kids. Right now we're stuck with a "cant teach an old dog new tricks" generation of parents and grandparents. And while this of course isn't the case with everyone, I do think its safe to assume that 20 years from now when we are the age our parents are now we should have new standards in adapting to new tech.

  • Older adults with computer-illiteracy should be a show or something cause its funny to see them confused and helpless lol. I wouldn't say helpless as a child because kids are coming out the womb knowing how to operate a computer.

  • My mom bookmarks every page too! My dad actually programs for a living so he knows more about computers than me, but my mom could definitely use that website.

  • Loving everything related to Google TV

  • my granny took up surfing on the internet this year, she is 73, she downloads recipes and then cookes those for lunch. :D

  • YESTERDAY IS HERE.

  • For those young adults who say their parent doesn't know how to turn their computer on, you're basically denouncing your parent's intelligence! Appreciate your parents because your parents had the option to kill you.

  • @jshjamaar no we're not, turning on the computer is a simple task to those who have used technology, but give it to someone who has never seen a computer and they'd have no idea what to do. That doesn't mean they are unintelligent it means that are uneducated, in that specific area. By posting that comment you're basically denouncing your intelligence.

  • I don't know what to say to this but your parents are dumb.

If you're under the age of 30 years of age, this means that your parent is most likely under the age of 55 or 50 for that matter. No excuse for your parent to not know the basics of a computer. Honestly, my parent taught me all I know about computers, and I'm majoring in a field where most consider a a death sentence.

  • @jshjamaar

I'm majoring in Computer Engineering , my parents are actually 55 and 52, and only recently they started using computers. You can't call someone dumb if you don't know their background. Ever thought that not every parent had the same luck as yours did?

"Honestly, my parent taught me all I know about computers, and I'm majoring in a field [...] "

Honestly, I didn't need my parents to teach me computers and that was a rather ignorant comment from someone majoring in whatever field.

  • @jshjamaar lolz, cause everybody has kids when they're twenty, especially thirty years ago. YOU WENT TO SCHOOL RIGHT?

  • some old lady said something like, "follow me on my twitter sheet" and i lol'd

  • I am 55. . . learned dos in the eighties. . .my mother is 72 and is pretty computer savvy. I have a techy son who does not like to help whatsoever . . . so it was sink or swim, I chose to swim.

  • Putting Christmas song in the background DOESN'T MAKE IT A CHRISTMAS COMMERCIAL! -.-'

  • @xoBabyGirl64 It's not a christmas song you noob.

  • Comment removed

  • @hater1 It is you hater ! O.o

  • Happy Holidays!!!!!!

  • I dont know about you, but every single of us, started like a ignorant.

And come on!!! most american kids only know how to use social networks and youtube... any further than that and they turn into ignorant parents.

  • what if they don't know how to type in the address...

  • Get out yer Google machine.

  • The funny thing is my 85-year-old grandpa is a computer pro.

  • this video is sooo stupid, even mine are better

    PEEJBEATS

  • how would parents even get to that website lol

  • they every one i would like to tell you guys about about a upcoming young group call young bloodz they single a song call if you don't see me its a really good song there lil kids are doing there thing big

  • How many parents that don't know what they're doing actually have a Mac? These videos are stupid...make some videos that address these issues with Windows. A parent/person who buys a mac most likely knows what they're doing. Those who don't know what they're doing don't care if they're computer is "cool" so they most likely buy Windows computers. Grab a clue Gen Y or whatever generation you're from.

  • Mi cat can click because i teach he to touch the "Mouse", and mi dad searchs on the keyboard for a button named "click". Somebody can, somebody can't :|

  • My dad (65) knows how to work with computers quite good.

  • Haha, I love how its a website, so if your REALLY not tech savvy you have no chance getting to it. Very smart.

  • What's Google?

  • The guy at :36 looks like Voldemort.

  • @thegroupishere yeah maybe if he was way more pale and bald

  • does no one else find this ironic? teach people who are clueless about how to use computers with computers?

  • THANK YOU GOOGLE, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOUUUUUUUUUU!!! NOW MY FATHER DOESN'T HAVE A FREAKING EXCUSE TO KEEP ME REPAIRING HIS COMPUTER EVERY F**KIN DAY :) :) :) :):)):))

  • This is really one of those "Why didn't i think of that" type of things. Fortunately my parents are actually pretty apt at computers.

  • My parents own a business...if they need help, that's what i'm for!

  • "Teachparentstech" is a useful website to get started for non-techies but my main concern is how Google goes about initiating thier presentations. This is a way for Google to help people, but mostly this is a great way to promote Google products. I'm just giving my opinion not against this but it would be better for us all is Google also point out that thier are other great(or better) products or alternatives for us to use. Giving us choice would be better for the web.

  • To bad thier servers are overloaded.

    "Uh Oh. Something Went Wrong.

Too many parents are learning too much useful stuff at the moment. Please try again in a bit. "
