I think her voice sounds scratchy because she's not singing in the right register. She's singing from her throat and head.

I love her voice, but I think it would be a lot better if she stuck with her natural range. She wouldn't strain or hit flats all the time.

I think it's called singing live without a bunch of crap in the studio to smooth everything out.  Regardless, she sounds great.

I've heard plenty of people singing "live without a bunch of crap" before, and they usually sound better than this.

Her problem is that she tries to sing all delicate and it doesn't work for her voice. It's much deeper than that.

Learn a thing or two about voice, and maybe you'll understand what I'm talking about.

well from what chris told me, he said its going to me HARDER and HEAVIER so I expect some very loud screaming but i do see maybe a ballad or 2 in it like Beautiful Tragedy had with When the Storm Subsides and Legacy of Odio (though it did have a scream in it :P)

I AM HERE TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT ABOUT MARIA'S VOICE. Okay, she said in the bonus interview on the new CD and in COUNTLESS magazine interviews that the screaming DID NOT hurt her voice. She says that screaming is easier to her then singing but that she wanted a challenge for THE DREAM. She says that she wants to output alot more emotion and that singing lets her do just that. If you watch live performances of songs like Mechanical Love that are just singing, she adds screams live.

i totally agree with u man. maria screams better than she sings. but she can sing her heart out. THE DREAM was a good way of showcasing her singing voice and there was only 1 song where she screamed (THE GREAT DIVIDE). maria has a awesome voice which many people still think isnt that good. fuck u haters!

In regards to the new cd i think she realized that screaming was killing her voice. I'm glad she doesn't scream that much anymore. It would be a shame to see such a beautiful voice like hers go away. So im glad she doesnt scream that much anymore. Thye still rock anyway.

it dnt hurt ur voice but u do it alot it will go away for a bit and sound like more of a yell also whenu smoke a lil pot right before it will make it a lil harder drinkin beer or water wwill make it better its not really screaming its stressing ur vocal chords to get the sound so doing it right aint a factor its what feels right for u u gotta open it up it will sound shitty at first but it will get better i sounded like a dying raptor at first but got alot better

Shes got a great voice but needs some work with a vocal coach. She really does need to learn where and how to properly breath, as shes taking a ton of breaths in the middle of flowing phrases that she shouldnt be breathing it, and its messing up the song.

This acoustic version isn't the best, but now, to say "they suck" is pretty fucking ignorant. When you're singing sitting down, your voice doesn't come out as pure and comfortable as when you sing standing up.
