  • america it's a old cliche !!!

  • great vid...remember it all well....great job....!!!!!

  • wow, your partner that comes in at min 3 could not sound any more enthusiastic about the project than he does already

  • You are taking some liberalties.

  • The Reagan assassination attempt was March 30 1981 not Jan 20 1981

  • Hagiography."He kept his campaign promises" There you go again lying about his record. He never balanced the budget like he promised.

  • The same people who praised Reagan vilify Obama...yet he spent at a higher clip when you account for inflation. Hypocrisy much? And yeah, Reagan was a racist who did everything he could to take away or limit the programs enacted as a result of the Civil Rights movement. Way to go Ronnie!

  • @cbaldwinjr - no fucking way, read up, shit head. You leftys need to stop whining. Your guys sucks.

  • @BeatleEDs

Obama's not 'my guy' you wannabe Internet commando. He's the President. And when a guy labels black women as 'welfare queens' and says he believes in states rights in the town made famous for its Klan activity, yeah he's a fucking racist. Not to mention he also said, "If an individual wants to discriminate against Negroes or others in selling or renting his house, it is his right to do so". Now, why don't YOU do some reading you Faux News watching simpleton.

  • @MrGuitarheroguru MTV had a great start and was really all about music through most of the '80's. Now it is a waste.

  • 81 seems like its reccuring in 2010, mtv television-internet, ira-iran, iraq.....idk. bad economy

  • 81 was a very good year wasn't it?

  • What about Dynasty?

  • Backstreet boys? 07:19

  • Sure, Ronnie didn't turn *everything* around, but he made it a hell of a lot better than now. But I was a kid during, so it was fun; parents had to deal with the crap. Now I deal with it. I don't blame Obama, he walked into shithouse mess. Voters that looked to him (or any politician) as some sort of life-saving diety are misguided.

  • 1981 the year of the first masters of the universe figures. those were some bad ass toys. good memories.

  • You guys sound stoned!

  • i was born on january 7, 1981. this video made me proud. but to say that there were "runaway deficits" is wrong. look it up. reagan's tax cuts caused the deficits to triple from the per year rate of the carter administration.

  • have we had any other years like this since then

  • Nice video but can I offer a small technical critique?

You need to re-record your voice-over and stop "popping your Ps". A windscreen would help, or getting a bit further from the mic, or learn to use softer Ps, like singers do.

    Other than that nice job!

  • Hey ,

    Great Commentary ,

Reagan Should be on the dime.

    Write your congress(person)

    FDR ended WW II

    Reagan TORE DOWN THE WALL

    ending the cold war

    Regards .

    Thanks,

    Shotgun

  • @ShotgunTheMan FDR is on the dime because he started The March of Dimes. Reagan didn't end the cold war, Mikhail Gorbachev did. Reagan played a minor role and wasn't even president when the Cold War ended. Reagan's biggest "accomplishment" is running up a record defecit to stimulate the economy. Iran-Contra alone should have been grounds for impeachment. Fuck Ronald Reagan and his braindead worshippers. At least he had the excuse of suffering from Alzheimer's Disease for making his mistakes.

  • Good video, csl609, but could you have done the voice over with a little more enthusiasm? You sound like a grade school kid reading his or her book report to the class.

  • I was born on this year.

  • Reagan's policies were a disaster for the working class and the poor.

  • you obviously have no idea what socialism is .....

  • Reagan deficit spent approx 3 1/2 trillion to stimulate the economy..... only thing worse than a tax and spend democrat is a borrow and spend republican

  • The Constitution says CONGRESS controls the purse strings. Despite Reagan's best efforts to reduce spending (save for military) overwhelming Democratic majorities running Congress for most of Reagan's terms thwarted those efforts. Gingrich and the Republicans forced fiscal austerity onto Bill Clinton 1994- (yet Slick Willy gets the credit for balanced budgets?). Ignoring the fact Congress controls spending gives Dems the ability to falsely claim better stewardship over the executive fiscally.

  • @thelawguy666 Re-read the constitution. One word, VETO.

  • @steverouse56 I am old enough to remember (born in the 50's) and I agree with you.

  • Born in Dec 1986,thank God I was not around for these years.I'm young and now in 2010,1981 seems like a pathethic year long past.Nearly three decades ago.Anyways great video, very interesting.

  • Well, I'm not so sure 2009 wasn't a rather pathetic year as well. Progress is very, very slow, with many regressions intersecting the highway to enlightenment:D

BTW, Anwar Sadat was assassinated in 1981. I don't see that on the list of events that occurred that year.

  • Pathetic compared to what? Now? I'll take 1981 anyday over this current shit.

  • @driffter1976 Yeah, and you were what, 5 years old in 1981? You're not even old enough to accurately remember it, so how can you accurately compare?

  • Take a look at my profile, I'm actualy 42. The 1976 is generic. So yeah, I'd say Im qualified to judge.

  • amen man believe it or not it would be another 10 years until i was born but i LOVE 80's music and if i could ever go back in time it would be through the 70's up until the mid 90's

  • @nema1218 Every time has it's good and bad. The music in 1981 was certainly better, in my opinion, than the music today.

  • csl609: You forgot to mention a very important development that occured on December 13, 1981 and that is the declaration of Marshall Law in Poland by General Jaruzelski and the crackdown on Lech Walesa and Solidarity. On December 23, 1981, Ronald Reagan addressed the American people and the world on the plight of the Polish people. If you want to see the speech by Reagan concerning this event, I suggest you type " Reagan Poland" on youtube search.

  • I made a tribute to the 80s slide show parts 1 and 2. Please view it and comment on it too!!! Thanks!

  • I wasnt born yet in 81. I was born in 83. I really liked Ronald Reagan thought i thought he was a sweet down to earth person. I was sad when he passed away in 04.

  • Even though Reagan busted the Air Traffic Controller's Union, some bozo had the gall to name an airport after him. Nobody consulted me about it. I'm a citizen. I travel on airplanes. Did I miss the vote? If they name one after Dubya, I may have to start taking trains.

  • If they name one after Obama, it'll probably be blown up by Islamic terrorists.

But Janet Napolitano will reassure your bereft that "the system worked":D

  • Would you prefer that it be renamed The Obama International Airport? Screw that.

  • @Maverick82102

I would prefer it named after a true patriot .. Like Eustace Mullins, Arron Russo or Thomas Jefferson..

All our president have devolved into banker stooges , fascist yes men and global Mega-criminals.

  • @finefilth Reagan was absolutely right in firing the air traffic controllers, idiot. And do start taking trains; I don't want to be seated next to you on my next flight.

  • @mikey42 thats right, i might be the underwear bomber... Oh Noooo!... have fun getting irradiated by the DNA smashing scanners brought to you by the phony republican terror machine complex! You have nothing to hide anyway you brainwashed dupe

  • Know who also took office with double digit inflation, unemployment and interest rates brought on by his predecessor?

    Hitler.

  • Bravo!

That is exactly right and I could not have said it better.

  • For all you guys about the AIDS, I got your solution right here. Its called STOP HAVING UNPROTECTED SEX!!!

  • Well, yeah, if you want to hold people accountable for their actions.

  • I think the video was very well done. In responce to all these people bashing President Reagan about this stupid-ass aids shit, what the hell has that piece of shit Obama brought to the table since 1-20-09? Absolutely nothing. He promised change and still hasn't delivered. Our economy is still going down the drain and gas prices keep on rising. He promised to get out of these stupid-ass wars but yet he still sends more troops to Afghanistan.

  • Actually, the Reagan Assasination Attempt happened on March 30th, 1981, not January 20th...just so you know:-D

  • He was inaugurated on Jan. 20

  • Comment removed

  • 1981 was a pretty boring year, only fun thing was MTV actually played videos back then.

  • Reagan's worst crimes were helping to take away american run business and ignoring AIDS

  • Reagan did not "ignore" AIDS by any means. He greatly increased funding for AIDS research nearly every every year of his presidency once the seriousness of the epidemoic became apparent.

  • Everything about the epidemic has been utterly predictable, utterly, utterly predictable from the very begining, from the very first day. But noone from importance would listen. They still won't

listen. This is an epidemic that could have been contained. We definately could have contained it. -- Dr. Mathilde Krim, Co-founding chair of American Foundation for AIDS research (AMFAR).

  • BS !! google Aids + Reagan !!

the great president my arse !!

  • @CGpolTV Why did he never MENTION it in public addresses?

  • Although it was well researched (with a heavy conservative tilt), you guys utilized some good archival footage. If I were your teacher, though, I would have taken a point or more off for your not so subtle homophobic quick cut of the BSBs during the AIDS part. As a nurse, having treated those with it (mostly straight people and many females in their teens), it's not amusing.

    Good production otherwise.

  • nice work. college report?

  • Thanks. No, high school. AP US History

  • You wasted it idiot

  • yeah im the first one to comment on this video!
