The persons voice is so pure and light!!! An angel voice. The only thing I didn't love was the drums in the background.... But great song! I could actually understand what she was singing, which is great!!... Cuz when you go up that high it's so damn difficult!!!
The whoal thing, actually, even down to the choice of singer and the languege. I miss a really good recording of this on youtube, though Marita Solberg did an OK job in Holmenkollen with Krinkastingsorkesteret. Even if she coloured it in a bit in unnecessary places.
What a heavenly voice! Nice slide show. To these visitors who ask questions: Solveig Song was composed by Edward Grieg for the play Per Gunt by Henric Ibsen. All the info and lyrics are avalaible on Inet, and there are many related version here, too. By the way, on my web site i have my own version , the simplier version of the text. The point was that Solveig waited for her beloved Per for all her life, while he was travelling all over the World. Her name is a symbol of loyality and love.
Do you mean that the song is SUNG by Meav or that it was composed by Meav beacuse if it is the latter you were thinking of then you are wrong as Grieg composed this piece, but if you meant the former then I apologise as THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING THIS!!
Lyrics: The winter may pass and the spring disappear And the spring disappear The summer, too, will vanish and then the year And then the year But this I know for certain, that you'll come back again That you'll come back again And even as I promised, you'll find me waiting then You'll find me waiting then Yes, even as I promised, you'll find me waiting then You'll find me waiting then
I can understand that someone could criticize translation into a different language. Saying that "language" sucks is simply ... dumb, makes no sense.
Again, without understanding a single word, I LOVE the music of Grieg. It helps me to cope with my strong feelings towards Norway every time when a new ridiculous, politically motivated, Nobel Prize is announced. The music of great Grieg helps me forgive and forget.
Really i heard at Kamelot's live recordings that their song Forever is based on some old Edvard Grieg composition, well if someone could explain me background off all this???
yes, yes it is. khan says it himself. lol. i don't know the background story though. try wikipedia or something. or check to see if kamelot has a fan forum. ps- I FUCKING LOVE KAMELOT. :3
The singing is beautiful, no doubt. The part that was translated is matched very well to the music. The translation leaves out the verse about God's "fodskammel" and all that.
There exists also beautiful version of this piece by polish duet: Marek & Wacek (pianists), I really recommend it! But it is quite difficult to find their performance.
Peer Gynt is not an opera it's actually a play by henrik ibsen and this is its incidental music. my favourite recording is the 1987 "highlights" made by deutsche grammophon, conducted by neeme jarvi with barbara bonney singing this song beautifully (in norwegian).and as much as a love anuna i love barbara more.
You should listen 'Peer Gynt Suites, From Holberg's Time, Sigurd Jorsalfar' too, it's a very good recording. I'll play Peer Gynt (the play) next month, in Aase's role.
Meav (self-titled album, '99) 94-98, principal soloist with Irish chamber choir Anúna; toured the US as soloist with RTÉ Concert Orch; toured S Africa with Lord of the Dance; gave concerts in Japan & S Korea. - wikipedia
Absolutley chilling and haunting. Peer Gynt left Solvieg after being cursed by the troll king's daughter to only think of her when he looked at Solveg, his true love. When he comes back to her and asks her where he has been she sings this song of loyalty and melancholy.
I am not one hundred percent sure, but she is the only one i have found that sings this lyrics in english. I guess the only way to find out is to look for the song on cd's covers, and see if somebody else also have song it in english.
but if you think it sounds younger it could be that she did this song a long time ago.

It goes without saying that Grieg composed this. Clearly he means this is sung by Meav.
Jesus...

Sung by Meav; surely. I just thought that Solveig's song in Peer Gynt was famous enough to know that Grieg composed this, so I didn't need to say it.

The music is, of course, by Grieg, but the original lyrics were written in Norwegian by Henrik Ibsen for his play "peer Gynt."
