@TheCristianleon No, not in this gun. I think years ago in my cooey model 60. Do they shoot good. The heavier bullets have a better BC over the long run. The light hypersonic bullets drop that speed really fast after 100 and have greater drift way out. But that is just general I haven't looked at the stingers.
@chopstick223 Target works out to 5.7 MOA x 5.7 MOA at that range. For ammo that I can only get 1.5 MOA or so sometimes a little less at 100 yards and with that type of wind I'm just happy to get hits on the plate. My 300 win mag at 400 yards video was shot right after this one. Swapped the scope right off. At the end of it I head down to the target. The 22 hits can be seen there.
@Blahblobify well 22 handguns are more in the 75 yard range..plus you would have to be a good shot and know what your doing to get .22lr to reach out to 100 yards.with handgun or rifle.
Cool to see someone else playing around with the .22 lr at longer ranges. Check out my channel i have a few videos shooting at long range also! Nice shooting. Keep up the good work
@raimundough I love my 6500. I use this 2.5-16 scope on this deer/moose 300 win mag. The rainguard coating is awesome. I was out deer hunting last week walking in the rain for about 4 hours. The scope was just soaked, with water pooling in the eyepiece with the rifle being held close to the chest on a two point sling. The scope was completely fogged over but at no time was it unusable. You could always see through the scope without having to ever touch the glass.
@sharpshooterdude I had a great time last week. At deer camp after the hunt I brought out this 22. I have a new vortex viper PST FFP 6-24x50 and I now swap it onto this 22 from the 223 Savage using the EGW rail and Leupold QRW rings. I dialed the 100 yard zero change for the 22 vs the 223 and checked it at 100 yards. I then pulled out bullet flight on the Ipod touch and looked at the 280 yard zero, 9.3mil up. I dialed and fired in a standing supported position. Hit on 8x8" steel. Cool
@hifly78 Later I was smacking my 4"x7" AR500 target at 280 yard standing supported. I had new paint on it and could see the hits. Elevation right on. Wind about .3 mil left. Not bragging, just trying to express some of the fun and joy I was having. I love these 22's. Deer Camp is a few KM back in the bush and I am already kind of known for taking too much crap so I left the target cameras and video cameras behind for this trip. Would have been nice to put it up on the tube. Sorry.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention I know a few people who think of themselves as "shooters" who couldn't hit that target with a centerfire rifle at 150 yards. Again that was some good shooting
That's good shooting. Most shooting videos on YouTube are a bunch of retards who don't have a clue about what they are doing or talking about. This is clearly not the case with this video, please post more.
@sharpshooterdude Its an old sony with a 20 x optical zoom. I keep saying it but hopefully I will get the power supplies sorted out and get the wireless target camera out more often. MTM. Money Time Motivation. I am usually short of one or two of those with a busy family life. I need to get out more. Cheers
Really impressive man. The scope with 80MOA adjustment that costs twice as much as the rifle is a great tool for your calculations. Probably one of the coolest shooting vids on Youtube A+++++++++
@TheZombieRebellion Thanks. And this one has 90 MOA . With a 20 moa rail I still have about 60 MOA available from the 100 yard zero. Enough to reach 450 yards with the 22LR without holdover.
@CharlieDoan That's the next thing to try. Without holdover I should be able to reach to 450 yards dialed almost to the top of the scope. I could also stack the mils. Maybe next spring I can try something truly silly. Cheers
@the311guitarman I hope it doesn't affect my ability to find it but I find the American Eagle 40 gr solid works great. AE5022. Smacking 4"x7" steel at 280 yards last week. About 1200 fps, .138 G1 BC.
Do you think I can take out a Red Fox with my Ruger .22 LR 10/22 at 100 yards or less?
Red Fox weighs no more than 15 pounds. I know it is ok for night raccoon hunters, and coon weigh up to 35 pounds around here, sometimes there are 40 pounders.
@79Testo well I'm not sure what hifly will think but I have taken down a gray fox at 32meters with a pellet rifle in. 177cal at 1000fps and a 8 grain pellet delivering round about 12-17lbft of energy your average. 22 fires a 30-40 grain round at usually 1100fps to round about 1700fps delivering round about 110 lbft of energy... unless you are not placing your shots well... I'd say go for it. BTW look up my fox video :-)
Great video I like how people laugh at the.22 pisses em off when I shoot sub 1 mia at 100m. Great shooting sir I have a MKII as well and it is awesome I wana see more vids
@fpssilentfox Thanks for the comment. I would love to be making videos and shooting more. Sorry, nothing in the near future, family work and life is getting in the way right now. I have the capability with a homemade wireless target camera to save both target and shooter video at the same time. I think a camera at 400 yards would work really well showing the hits. I tested it out to 822 yards with my 223 rem and it was nice feedback. Just sorting out the power supply for to make more portable.
@hifly78 i love the 22lr i often shoot sub moa at 100 and about 1'in a 150yds. if u want some real fun get a 17 HMR i have a savage BTV and a 300 it is 1.5in groups so i wonder how far you can stretch it out
@dippst Was only my second left hand bolt rifle. First was my LH Browning A-bolt in 300 win Mag, and 3rd my Savage VLP DBM .223. Before that I was very comfortable with the RH Bolt. For a shotgun pump I bought a Browning BPS with bottom load and eject and top tang safety. My buddy has a left hand autoloader Beretta Super Black eagle II shotgun. Very nice to shoot., even with the magnum loads.
@hifly78 I just ordered this rifle but was looking for it in .223. I see you can get that in the Right Hand version but seems that you can't get it in the Left Hand version only the .17HMR version. That's a shame...
@terrybeb Check out my videos of the Savage VLP DBM it's in 223 rem and LH. It is sweet also. Will shoot sub .25moa groups with the right load. Sub moa with about any load. I found that 23.3gr varget in a win case with 30.0gr h2o water capacity and COAL 2.440" (max mag) will shoot .166 and .188 3 shot groups. About 2710fps with a 75gr Hornady a-max. Someone told me that they stopped stocking them but give savage a call I bet they could throw one together for you. 1 in 9 twist is mine.
@flyinbryan1619 He lies nicely next to me but would much rather be sitting in a duck blind so he has something to do after the shooting stops. Sometimes all he get to do is give me the dirty look when I miss all the birds.
@spookypunky Checked out their 2010 catalog. Doesn't look like anything for Savage Bolt Rifles. Only 10/22 Ruger rifle and a whole bunch of AR and pistol conversions.
@spookypunky Thanks, the poor pup just turned 8 and is his hearing is not what it use to be. I'm sure the 22LR is not the problem but he has laid beside me for way to much 223 and 300 win mag shooting.
@DickCheneyXX ??? Do you have a point? Is this some kind of Liberian cultural bias to 10 % of the world population. OOOOha the Devil made me this way. Be afraid.
i was thinking about getting this rifle or a savage like it and this vid reaaaly helps convince me that its awsome i have a cheap rossi 22 one shot and can hit a 4" target at 200 yards if theres little wind but i wanted to push that out a bit and this rifle looks perfect for doing that
@breadman32398 I have a 22 LR Marlin 925 bolt with 7x scope and i have a 18" harrow disc at 330 yards and this distance has been confirmed by range measuring device and also 3 adults who "calibrate" their pace by walking a 100 yard distance and adjusting pace to match and then walking to target. I have no hitek scope so i hold over about 18' and wait for calm day as gusty day blows pill around to much makes heckuva noise I can hit about 7 of 10 on good day(velocity at target 350 fps?).
@breadman32398 It's my first really accurate 22, also first new one. You will love the trigger on it. I did polish the surfaces a little. The parts line made it a little rough when new but now its great. Most others 22's I have are way older than me, all hand me downs. Although inside 100 yards with Iron sights my little Cooey Model 60 does just fine
@WinMOD42 it's around $490 or £300, although im struggling to find anywhere in the uk that sells this rifle, or many places that sell savage at all :(
@treasuredroperX Interesting, just looking at your channel. You don't look like this is a practical interest of yours. How did you come up with 200 yards? I have explained myself previously in this thread and I'll do it again but after I hear your revelations please.
@hifly78 Oh shooting is definitely a interest, so is the universe. I live on a 15 acre farm, and I shoot a old Marlin 60 .22, scoped all the time, measuring distances using a tape measure. And from my estimate, that looks to be anywhere between 200-250 yards.
@treasuredroperX Measured with GPS. Confirmed on Google earth. Can check it with time. Time from shot to hearing impact about 2.434 seconds. Bullet flight time to target at 400 yards per Sierra suite 6 using 1240fps muzzle .138 G1 Bc. 1.324 seconds. Difference of 1.110 seconds. Using a temp of 66F speed of sound 1127.8fps. 1127.8x1.110 = 1252 feet /3 = 417 yards. I'll stick to the 400 yard GPS call. This was filmed using a 20x optical zoom so "seeing" how far is kind of hard to quantify
@hifly78 My 22 LR target is a small harrow disc set up at 330 yards and makes a very loud ring when hit and I have set up on 55 gal steel drum with a coil spring to isolate disc and make ring better. I hold over between 18-22 ' and when i shoot low the bullet won't even penetrate the thin wall barrel so i estimate about 350 fps downrange i shoot cheap bulk carton rem. win. and fed. brands so not as consistent as CCI which seems very consistent.
@hifly78 Actually, by my calculations, if it took 2.434 seconds for you to hear the hit sound with a 1240fps shot at 66 degrees, you're looking at about 480 yards. I'm using very exact calculations. 400-417 yards would be 2.035-2.122 seconds.
@treasuredroperX If it was 200 yards you would expect the following: Bullet flight time 200 yards 0.585s. Time for sound to travel 200 yards 600/1127.8fps = .532 seconds. Total from shot to hearing impact would be 0.585+0.532= 1.117seconds. All based of 66F approximation. Hope it helps.
@zellarsDD777 Depends what you want if for. Although, I think a 10/22 will be my next rimfire rifle. Never had one before. I suspect for accuracy the Savage would be better. I also suspect I would shoot a lot more rounds if I had the semi auto 10/22. Been looking at those with a chassis. Looks cool and might be fun too. Hope it helps, Good luck on your decision.
@hifly78 Thanks for the reply. I'm looking to do target shooting, and I'm on my marksmanship team in JROTC. I might just go with the savage for the accuracy.
@hifly78 Over the last few weeks I have become a fan of the ruger SR-22. The 10/22 in an AR like chassis. That will be my next purchase for a 22. The flat top rail and the adjustable stock from 10-13" length of pull will be useful for some of the young and coming little shooters in my family. My little guy 6 is becoming quite a good shot and with a scoped cooey 60 and has been hitting targets out past 150 yards lately. Shooting since 4 years old.
@KrAzYpOiiZoN rimfire means that the primer in the cartrige is inside the rim of the brass case ,when the firing pin strikes the rim if the case it egnites the primer and egnites the powder sending the bullet on its way.
@R3KZGamingPS3 I suspect it would be hard to see a laser at 400 yards. I don't know, never worked with one. If using it as a sight it would need a lot of elevation to dial in. Let me know haw it goes. I think it would be a great training aid for the handgun. Im sure good for self defense but in Canada we are just neutered in that respect. Cheers
I am not sure the bullet drop of 22 at 400 yards but looked on line and its around 6-7 inches at 100yards and its going steep at that distance, I guess my question is can you make this shot if nothing but sky was behind it? meaning are you referenceing your reticle alone of some point in the background? I not familar with trying a lob shot to that degree and guessing its energy is pretty well spent but hitting it at that range did it take a very light trigger?
@j2bodydouble No I'm not holding over or aiming at blue sky. My scope has a total of 90MOA of elevation. I also have a 20MOA slope rail on the gun. This means my 100 yard zero is only up from the bottom of the scope about 30MOA. This leaves a further 60 or so minutes of angle to dial up. For 400 yards the drop is about 56 MOA. About another 20 feet. Total drop from the extended bore center line (line of departure) at 400 yards is about 24 feet. The trigger is about 1.5 pounds.
That's impressive! I was shooting my old man's Marlin 39AS .22 with Winchester hollow points at a soda can, this morning. After free-handing my last shot and successfully launching the can at least three feet into the air, I decided to measure the distance...172 yards...free-handed...with a .22! I was pretty damn impressed with myself, but seeing this video has only given me the hunger to reach new plateaus with my marksmanship. Maybe I'll post a vid or two and challenge you. ;)
@sharpshooter0508 Thanks, sounds like fun, I need to do some more offhand shooting. I need to get out again and make an update to this video wit a target camera to tie it in better but I always seem busy with the family stuff lately.
I am pretty sure there is a link in the info section of the video for the exact page. It is an Evolution Gun works 20 MOA mount. I recommend it. Check out the info and get one. Cheers
i havent tried a .22 yet, but it seems pretty fun (: i have a remmington 77 air rifle that i play with, i dont have a big scope or anything, so when i try to go further out, i put interval targets to see if i can even get far enough... i dont know about yards but my furthest shot so far that i can use half accurately is about 56metres ... i dont really know if thats good, but its fun like you said, and i when i get my hands on a .22, i think im gunna try that same thing :p
@tigerpaw50 i have the crossman 2100b...they r the exact same gun except for name and colors .... and i hit a pop can from 95 yards away with a 4x15 scopeurs should do the same u just have to put windage and elevation in your adjustments and pull the trigger.
Much penetration your getting at 400 yards out. Im sure it wouldn't be easy but Someone should make a ballistic gel and put it out at X amount of yards and see what you can do. By the way amazing shooting with a .22.
Probably because hitting at that distance is certainly more challenging than a larger caliber, and probably more fun. Also because .22 ammo is way cheaper--it doesn't cost $1.00 plus every time you pull the trigger. Other possible reasons: lower recoil, no sore shoulder; far quieter shooting; .22 target rifles are often 1/10 the cost of the big guns. Have you priced a .50 BMG lately? Or the ammo for one?
Bottom line is, the guy is having fun and doing something that not many can do with a .22.
@hifly78 Sorry but you dont have to get offended. Can you explain to me what's the point of shooting at 400 yards with a 22 rimfire so I can understand it? Let's say you trying to build a swiming pool, and you try to dig a big/deep hole with a spoon, sure you will build it eventually but my point is there are proper tools to do it. Same thing with a rifle to get to 400 yards. Again I apologize if I offended you, wasn't my intention. I dont need the anonymity of internet to tell youn this.
@Maxcoatl123 Offended only about the "lie" part. The rest is your opinion. Why bungee jump, why rock climb (for sport) why handglide, and many other things, because its fun and a challenge.
@hifly78 Again, I apologize. Just, I guess because of my background as a sharpshooter and you know, taking in considerations wind, temperature, angle, barrel temperature, etc etc will be very hard to have constant accuracy on hitting the same spot several times not to mention a moving target. Again, I apologize. I also love to shoot my 22 and so my kids. Also own a .22 MAG. and a .222 Rem. among several others. I guess like you said.....why not? Thanks and take care.
Hey, i got the same rifle you do except it's right handed and i have a bushnell 3200 elite scope. Im new to this long range shooting and i was wondering if you got any tips for a newbie.
Would you recommend the Savage Mark II or CZ455 for a beginner trying to hit something past 300m? I've managed to hit a pan with a airrifle at 115m, I'd love to try .22lr
@Herrdesrings I don't know the CZ455 so I can't comment. I do like my Mark II though. To not just be throwing lead around hoping for a hit you need to have run a ballistic drop calculation for your rounds (know the chrono velocities) and then have a scope with enough vertical range to reach out there, and then calibrate your scope. Even though the turrets say .25moa per click it may not be. Mine are more like .268moa per click. When coming up 56moa over 100yards zero it adds up. Have fun.
@hifly78 hey cool video, I have a question I need help with, I just bought a savage mark 2 with no scope..all the scopes I found all clamp on but my long rifle 22 needs a scope that looks like it screws onto the top with four little holes, 2 up front and 2 in the rear in front of and behind the bolt, any suggestions on a good scope but not crazy expensive? Wanna hunt rabbits with this gun so 50 to 75 yards should do it. Thanks man :)
@rtodd84 buy separate scope mounts and scope. should be able to buy them just about anywhere, just make sure your mounts are tall enough for the scope your going to use. I put a 50mm 3-9 on my mark 2 savage and had to get 2" tall scope mounts to clear the barrel.
@rtodd84 There is a link in my video description for a sloped rail mount. Any standard weaver style scope ring will mount onto this. I use the Leupold QRW rings for quick removal and install. If you put rail bases on other guns you can afford a little more to buy better glass. My scope is currently doing triple duty on my Savage Mark II, Savage 12 .223 and Browning A-bolt in 300 win mag. If you get target(or tactical) style turret you can easily reset it to zero for each rifle used.
@bkfreas I only had about 5 min of wind in. 14 moa if 10mph crosswind but not as strong as that. I calibrate my scope turrets. It reads 1/4" at 100 yards. I shoot it at 100 yards through 4 complete revolutions both in elevation and windage 12 moa per revolution marked, then I recalculate back what the clicks convert to. My scope there are about 0.268 moa per click in elevation and 0.265moa in windage. I input all the data in a execl spreadsheet and let it average it for me.
@hifly78 just assuming I wanted to move 14 M.O.A. @ 400 yard's.1 click = 1/4 inch @ 100. how many click's would I adjust? What would the equation be,whether windage or elevation. At a 50 yard zero I am having to come up 72 click's on a SWFA ss10x42m at 200 yard's to hit my point of aim.Do not know how to calculate it,just ran the turret up until I hit my point of aim.Thank's for the reply.(I'm a novice) can shoot a 1" 3 shot group with my customized 10/22 at this distance.
@bkfreas 14 MOA is 14MOA same regardless of yardage. That the nice thing about angular measurement. 1/4" at 100 is approx 0.25MOA. The math is 1.047" at 100 yards is 1moa. So 1/4" / 1.047 = 0.239 MOA so if your click value is correct the 1/4" @100 yards to dial 14 MOA you need 14/0.239 = 58 to 59 clicks. When shooting long with the 22LR the numbers get big fast. Calibrating turrets will help. I recommend Applied Ballistics for Long Range Shooting by Brian Litz. Talks control of sights
@bkfreas That 72 up from 50 to 200 yards seems reasonable. If you know your velocity and your ballistic coefficient you can plug it into a Ballistic calculator and get drop in MOA. Google JBM. That is a good online resource. For BC most standard 40gr solid bullets for the 22LR are right around 0.138 or 0.139 using G1 ballistics. Should get you in the ballpark. If you have an Ipod or I phone Bullet Flight from the apps store is a good one to have as well as Ballistics FTE.
@LANDSERVE Thanks, I don't have a 22WMR. My Dad has one but never used it and its got Iron sights. Maybe if I can get a picitinny rail for it I'd give it a go. Kind of down the list of priorities right now. Thanks Again.
@angryfishmonger I didn't get down to the target until after shooing my 300 win mag full loads at it. At the end of that video I do go down to the target and the 22 hits are also visible. In the final stages of getting a wireless target camera operational. Had it out this weekend and it was transmitting video and audio back over 600 yards to the firing line. Just need to solve some power supply issues. A pain to have to carry 12V batteries to convert to AC to only reconvert back to DC.
@ciolamorta definitely. at the distance he's shooting, even with Remington subsonic, they're hitting with ~37 ft/lbs of energy. which according to even U.S. Army regulations can at least maim a human size target. and at 300 yards, and ~45 ft/lbs it is considered potentially lethal by the us army regulations.
yes it can. it is preferred by most assassins. its quiet(er); with a small, accurate round and when it enters a body, it will ricochet causing more damage .
@niksarass i'm actually trying to go for 500 here in a bit, i'm limited by my optics. certerpoint 4-16x40, egw 20moa rail (which didn't really change anything) and now untested with an additional 23moa shim under the rail. hopefully with a video too once i know i can see it. i was sighted at 300 max and hitting a steel ringer bar at 400 with a 6mil drop. at 500 even with only 4x magnification i couldn't see the impact unless i shot then aimed down before impact.
@niksarass and as far as wind goes, at 400 yards just the Coriolis effect alone is taking the round 8 inches to the right and just 1.4mph wind from 9 o`clock will double that. okay so maybe i was wrong about the not so complicated part, i just don't really think about it.. lol
@niksarass Naw, don't have the stealth or patients but I do like shooting. My wife just doesn't get it how I'll head out for a day in the back country being attacked by bugs to lay out in the hot dry sun, wearing way too many cloths to prevent some bug bites. Just the ATV ride to get there is tiring. Then the setup of targets and cameras. Its hours from the time I leave the cottage until the first shot is fired.
Nice shooting, man. I really want to test my .22 at long ranges like this, but I don't have flat enough land... Haha.

@saxonforge 24" by 24" Target. as stated In the notes. Thats 5.7x5.7 MOA. With a 22LR at that range in that wind I'm happy with the hits. Cheers

have u ever try some cci stinger .22 ammo???
TheCristianleon 2 months ago
@TheCristianleon No, not in this gun. I think years ago in my cooey model 60. Do they shoot good. The heavier bullets have a better BC over the long run. The light hypersonic bullets drop that speed really fast after 100 and have greater drift way out. But that is just general I haven't looked at the stingers.

Ok now lets see the target....
chopstick223 2 months ago
@chopstick223 Target works out to 5.7 MOA x 5.7 MOA at that range. For ammo that I can only get 1.5 MOA or so sometimes a little less at 100 yards and with that type of wind I'm just happy to get hits on the plate. My 300 win mag at 400 yards video was shot right after this one. Swapped the scope right off. At the end of it I head down to the target. The 22 hits can be seen there.

@Blahblobify well 22 handguns are more in the 75 yard range..plus you would have to be a good shot and know what your doing to get .22lr to reach out to 100 yards.with handgun or rifle.

raimundough 3 months ago

Cool
hifly78 3 months ago
@hifly78 Later I was smacking my 4"x7" AR500 target at 280 yard standing supported. I had new paint on it and could see the hits. Elevation right on. Wind about .3 mil left. Not bragging, just trying to express some of the fun and joy I was having. I love these 22's. Deer Camp is a few KM back in the bush and I am already kind of known for taking too much crap so I left the target cameras and video cameras behind for this trip. Would have been nice to put it up on the tube. Sorry.

That's good shooting. Most shooting videos on YouTube are a bunch of retards who don't have a clue about what they are doing or talking about. This is clearly not the case with this video, please post more.

Nice shooting. Also, great camera. It has a heck of an optical zoom. Put em' all to shame with a .22! (=

@sharpshooterdude Its an old sony with a 20 x optical zoom. I keep saying it but hopefully I will get the power supplies sorted out and get the wireless target camera out more often. MTM. Really impressive man. The scope with 80MOA adjustment that costs twice as much as the rifle is a great tool for your calculations. Probably one of the coolest shooting vids on Youtube A+++++++++
TheZombieRebellion 4 months ago
@TheZombieRebellion Thanks. And this one has 90 MOA . With a 20 moa rail I still have about 60 MOA available from the 100 yard zero. Enough to reach 450 yards with the 22LR without holdover.
hifly78 3 months ago
@hifly78 But your gun can shoot to 450 yards or not?? How long is that barrel? 24 inches?
CharlieDoan 1 month ago
@CharlieDoan That's the next thing to try. Without holdover I should be able to reach to 450 yards dialed almost to the top of the scope. I could also stack the mils. Maybe next spring I can try something truly silly. Cheers

Do you think I can take out a Red Fox with my Ruger .22 LR 10/22 at 100 yards or less?
Red Fox weighs no more than 15 pounds. I know it is ok for night raccoon hunters, and coon weigh up to 35 pounds around here, sometimes there are 40 pounders.
what do you think?
79Testo 3 months ago
@79Testo well I'm not sure what hifly will think but I have taken down a gray fox at 32meters with a pellet rifle in. 177cal at 1000fps and a 8 grain pellet delivering round about 12-17lbft of energy your average. 22 fires a 30-40 grain round at usually 1100fps to round about 1700fps delivering round about 110 lbft of energy... unless you are not placing your shots well... I'd say go for it. BTW look up my fox video :-)

@dippst Was only my second left hand bolt rifle. First was my LH Browning A-bolt in 300 win Mag, and 3rd my Savage VLP DBM .223. Before that I was very comfortable with the RH Bolt. Very nice to shoot., even with the magnum loads.

About 2710fps with a 75gr Hornady a-max. breadman32398 6 months ago
I have no hitek scope so i hold over about 18' and wait for calm day as gusty day blows pill around to much makes heckuva noise I can hit about 7 of 10 on good day(velocity at target 350 fps?).
blastforyou 6 months ago
@breadman32398 It's my first really accurate 22, also first new one. You will love the trigger on it. I did polish the surfaces a little. The parts line made it a little rough when new but now its great. Most others 22's I have are way older than me, all hand me downs. Although inside 100 yards with Iron sights my little Cooey Model 60 does just fine

By which means did you measure your distance? That appears to be around (from my calculation from shooting distances) 200 Yards.
treasuredroperX 6 months ago
@treasuredroperX Interesting, just looking at your channel. You don't look like this is a practical interest of yours. How did you come up with 200 yards? I have explained myself previously in this thread and I'll do it again but after I hear your revelations please.
hifly78 6 months ago
@hifly78 Oh shooting is definitely a interest, so is the universe. I live on a 15 acre farm, and I shoot a old Marlin 60 .22, scoped all the time, measuring distances using a tape measure. And from my estimate, that looks to be anywhere between 200-250 yards.
treasuredroperX 6 months ago
@treasuredroperX Measured with GPS. Confirmed on Google earth. Can check it with time. Time from shot to hearing impact about 2.434 seconds. Bullet flight time to target at 400 yards per Sierra suite 6 using 1240fps muzzle .138 G1 Bc. 1.324 seconds. Difference of 1.110 seconds. Using a temp of 66F speed of sound 1127.8fps. 1127.8x1.110 = 1252 feet /3 = 417 yards. I'll stick to the 400 yard GPS call. This was filmed using a 20x optical zoom so "seeing" how far is kind of hard to quantify
hifly78 6 months ago 15
@hifly78 Made that guy look so retarded, thank you! You really made me smile with this.
whatdickhead45 6 months ago
@hifly78 My 22 LR target is a small harrow disc set up at 330 yards and makes a very loud ring when hit and I have set up on 55 gal steel drum with a coil spring to isolate disc and make ring better. I hold over between 18-22 ' and when i shoot low the bullet won't even penetrate the thin wall barrel so i estimate about 350 fps downrange i shoot cheap bulk carton rem. win. and fed. brands so not as consistent as CCI which seems very consistent.

EvanIIRC 6 months ago
@hifly78 Actually, by my calculations, if it took 2.434 seconds for you to hear the hit sound with a 1240fps shot at 66 degrees, you're looking at about 480 yards. I'm using very exact calculations. 400-417 yards would be 2.035-2.122 seconds.
EvanIIRC 6 months ago
@treasuredroperX If it was 200 yards you would expect the following: Bullet flight time 200 yards 0.585s. Time for sound to travel 200 yards 600/1127.8fps = .532 seconds. Total from shot to hearing impact would be 0.585+0.532= 1.117seconds. All based of 66F approximation. Hope it helps.

zellarsDD777 6 months ago
@zellarsDD777 Depends what you want if for. Although, I think a 10/22 will be my next rimfire rifle. Never had one before. I suspect for accuracy the Savage would be better. I also suspect I would shoot a lot more rounds if I had the semi auto 10/22. Been looking at those with a chassis. Looks cool and might be fun too. Hope it helps, Good luck on your decision.
hifly78 6 months ago
@hifly78 Thanks for the reply. I'm looking to do target shooting, and I'm on my marksmanship team in JROTC. I might just go with the savage for the accuracy.
zellarsDD777 6 months ago
@hifly78 Over the last few weeks I have become a fan of the ruger SR-22. The 10/22 in an AR like chassis. That will be my next purchase for a 22. The flat top rail and the adjustable stock from 10-13" length of pull will be useful for some of the young and coming little shooters in my family. My little guy 6 is becoming quite a good shot and with a scoped cooey 60 and has been hitting targets out past 150 yards lately. Shooting since 4 years old.

KrAzYpOiiZoN 6 months ago
@KrAzYpOiiZoN rimfire means that the primer in the cartrige is inside the rim of the brass case ,when the firing pin strikes the rim if the case it egnites the primer and egnites the powder sending the bullet on its way.
gunsguitarsandgirls 6 months ago
@R3KZGamingPS3 I suspect it would be hard to see a laser at 400 yards. I don't know, never worked with one. If using it as a sight it would need a lot of elevation to dial in. Let me know haw it goes. I think it would be a great training aid for the handgun. Im sure good for self defense but in Canada we are just neutered in that respect. Cheers
hifly78 7 months ago
I am not sure the bullet drop of 22 at 400 yards but looked on line and its around 6-7 inches at 100yards and its going steep at that distance, I guess my question is can you make this shot if nothing but sky was behind it? meaning are you referenceing your reticle alone of some point in the background? I not familar with trying a lob shot to that degree and guessing its energy is pretty well spent but hitting it at that range did it take a very light trigger?
j2bodydouble 7 months ago
@j2bodydouble No I'm not holding over or aiming at blue sky. My scope has a total of 90MOA of elevation. I also have a 20MOA slope rail on the gun. This means my 100 yard zero is only up from the bottom of the scope about 30MOA. This leaves a further 60 or so minutes of angle to dial up. For 400 yards the drop is about 56 MOA. About another 20 feet. Total drop from the extended bore center line (line of departure) at 400 yards is about 24 feet. The trigger is about 1.5 pounds.

300mag83 8 months ago
What i would like to see is how
Much penetration your getting at 400 yards out. Im sure it wouldn't be easy but Someone should make a ballistic gel and put it out at X amount of yards and see what you can do. By the way amazing shooting with a .22.
Outlaw409 8 months ago

Maxcoatl123 8 months ago
@Maxcoatl123 Offended only about the "lie" part. The rest is your opinion. Why bungee jump, why rock climb (for sport) why handglide, and many other things, because its fun and a challenge.
hifly78 8 months ago
@hifly78 Again, I apologize. Just, I guess because of my background as a sharpshooter and you know, taking in considerations wind, temperature, angle, barrel temperature, etc etc will be very hard to have constant accuracy on hitting the same spot several times not to mention a moving target. Again, I apologize. I also love to shoot my 22 and so my kids. Also own a .22 MAG. and a .222 Rem. among several others. I guess like you said.....why not? Thanks and take care.

Would you recommend the Savage Mark II or CZ455 for a beginner trying to hit something past 300m? I've managed to hit a pan with a airrifle at 115m, I'd love to try .22lr
Herrdesrings 9 months ago
@Herrdesrings I don't know the CZ455 so I can't comment. I do like my Mark II though. To not just be throwing lead around hoping for a hit you need to have run a ballistic drop calculation for your rounds (know the chrono velocities) and then have a scope with enough vertical range to reach out there, and then calibrate your scope. Even though the turrets say .25moa per click it may not be. Mine are more like .268moa per click. When coming up 56moa over 100yards zero it adds up. Have fun.
hifly78 8 months ago
@hifly78 Thx, I think I'll go with the CZ455 Thumbhole and maybe even get a 20 MOA picatinny rail.

Thanks man :)
rtodd84 9 months ago
@rtodd84 buy separate scope mounts and scope. should be able to buy them just about anywhere, just make sure your mounts are tall enough for the scope your going to use. I put a 50mm 3-9 on my mark 2 savage and had to get 2" tall scope mounts to clear the barrel.
vkelsov 9 months ago
@rtodd84 There is a link in my video description for a sloped rail mount. Any standard weaver style scope ring will mount onto this. I use the Leupold QRW rings for quick removal and install. If you put rail bases on other guns you can afford a little more to buy better glass. My scope is currently doing triple duty on my Savage Mark II, Savage 12 .223 and Browning A-bolt in 300 win mag. If you get target(or tactical) style turret you can easily reset it to zero for each rifle used.

14 minutes of wind=how many clicks on the turret's? (assuming 1 click = 1/4 inch @ 100 yard's...
bkfreas 9 months ago
@bkfreas I only had about 5 min of wind in. 14 moa if 10mph crosswind but not as strong as that. I calibrate my scope turrets. It reads 1/4" at 100 yards. I shoot it at 100 yards through 4 complete revolutions both in elevation and windage 12 moa per revolution marked, then I recalculate back what the clicks convert to. My scope there are about 0.268 moa per click in elevation and 0.265moa in windage. I input all the data in a execl spreadsheet and let it average it for me.
hifly78 9 months ago
@hifly78 just assuming I wanted to move 14 M.O.A. @ 400 yard's.1 click = 1/4 inch @ 100. how many click's would I adjust? What would the equation be,whether windage or elevation. At a 50 yard zero I am having to come up 72 click's on a SWFA ss10x42m at 200 yard's to hit my point of aim.Do not know how to calculate it,just ran the turret up until I hit my point of aim.Thank's for the reply.(I'm a novice) can shoot a 1" 3 shot group with my customized 10/22 at this distance.
bkfreas 9 months ago
Talks control of sights
hifly78 9 months ago
@hifly78 Thank's for the input and recommendation hifly 78...
bkfreas 9 months ago

What did the target look like?
angryfishmonger 9 months ago
@angryfishmonger I didn't get down to the target until after shooing my 300 win mag full loads at it. At the end of that video I do go down to the target and the 22 hits are also visible. In the final stages of getting a wireless target camera operational. Had it out this weekend and it was transmitting video and audio back over 600 yards to the firing line. Just need to solve some power supply issues. A pain to have to carry 12V batteries to convert to AC to only reconvert back to DC.

Do you think that a .22 LR can kill?
ciolamorta 9 months ago
@ciolamorta definitely. at the distance he's shooting, even with Remington subsonic, they're hitting with ~37 ft/lbs of energy. which according to even U.S. Army regulations can at least maim a human size target. and at 300 yards, and ~45 ft/lbs it is considered potentially lethal by the us army regulations.

@ciolamorta
yes it can. it is preferred by most assassins. its quiet(er); with a small, accurate round and when it enters a body, it will ricochet causing more damage .

@ScopedNightmare Azzo... thanks, i didn't know that. Thank you!

@ciolamorta Even at 400 yards I wouldn't want to be catching them. Should still have about 50 ft lbs of energy at 400 yards

Shooting target at 370 meters with a 22l??
Holy shite you were a sniper in another life?

@niksarass i'm actually trying to go for 500 here in a bit, i'm limited by my optics. certerpoint 4-16x40, egw 20moa rail (which didn't really change anything) and now untested with an additional 23moa shim under the rail. hopefully with a video too once i know i can see it. i was sighted at 300 max and hitting a steel ringer bar at 400 with a 6mil drop. at 500 even with only 4x magnification i couldn't see the impact unless i shot then aimed down before impact.
hilers72652 9 months ago
@niksarass and as far as wind goes, at 400 yards just the Coriolis effect alone is taking the round 8 inches to the right and just 1.4mph wind from 9 o`clock will double that. okay so maybe i was wrong about the not so complicated part, i just don't really think about it.. lol
hilers72652 9 months ago
@niksarass Naw, don't have the stealth or patients but I do like shooting. My wife just doesn't get it how I'll head out for a day in the back country being attacked by bugs to lay out in the hot dry sun, wearing way too many cloths to prevent some bug bites. Just the ATV ride to get there is tiring. Then the setup of targets and cameras. Its hours from the time I leave the cottage until the first shot is fired.
