Cool! I built an urban loft bed too, but did it with bolts. If you're like me I can never hang onto an apartment for very long, so nuts and bolts make it easier to break down and re-assemble.
Very entertaining video, but not so very helpful for showing people how to build their own. Somewhere in the middle, you just about had me convinced to buy one ready made.
@kendigjl a little yeah...but it depends on the height of the room, how fun you actually are, and whether or not you increase it. We made it a few inches taller than the basic plans to give us more head room at the desk....
Are you finding the height adequate to get to the desk ? I cant let the whole vid load because of bandwidth issues, but i read that its 5 and half feet on your fllckr page.
@trulynot yeah the desk was a great height. I made it a little too high, but if I had made accommodations for a keyboard tray it would have been perfect really.
Good work ladies. You two are funny as hell. It's great to see people actually building their own solutions, that's a quality that seems rare these days. Cheers.
Thanks so much! I'm glad that you enjoyed it. It was really fun to make. It ended up costing about $260 total. I would recommend going with the hardware package from OPloftbed because its a pain to track down all of the hardware. Some places in Chicago didn't even carry enough so we had to run all over the place. I would also recommend making it with the 3 center braces and using your existing box spring instead of the plywood + mattress. It made it extremely comfortable.
is that a full bed? I've been looking at loft beds all day and they're almost all twin size. I'm 6'3, a twin size bed feels like a coffin.if that is a full bed, could you tell me if it feels sturdy with two people up there... because I do love to cuddle, and I would hate to miss out on that to save space in my room, lol.
Its is actually a QUEEN size bed!! :D And we are both pretty thick girls...and its extremely sturdy! The design is awesome. It held the box spring + mattress + two people + cats and even a suspended desk from chains below!
i want to buy the full hight size loft bed plans...but i was wondering ...how tall is your ceiling? and did you buy the tallest version of the loft beds? thanks
Our ceilings were 9' and yes we went with the tallest loft height and even added an inch or two. Originally we were planning to add 3 inches but the guy cut one leg wrong so we settled with 93" legs.
Thank you so much for the great video. I'm planning to build a loft and I've been on Google all day. You guys are hilarious and gave a great demostration.
you know that you had the drill going backwards right? The holes would have drilled alot easier if you would have had the drill going in the right direction.
OMG you're definitely right in that it looks like its going backwards, but I definitely know how to use a drill and assure you it really wasn't. I'm not sure why it looks that way though...maybe it was a clip of me backing it out for some reason. This poor drill has built two huge yards of privacy fence and now a bed...its about dead!!
After finding and watching this video I have decided to go and make a loft bed like this for my room. About how much did you end up spending on the wood and bolts? I went to the op loft bed site and I see they sell bolt kits now. Wondering if that would be the best route to take.
Yeay!! So glad that you are gonna give it a go! We only spent around $130 on wood (construction grade lumber) and ended up spending quite a bit on hardware--so I definitely think that OP's deal would be a better route to take.

TinkerBelle246 10 months ago
I'm thinking of doing the same if I move in to my friends place, the room is just soooooo small.
I thought about building my desk in to the lower part.

This is nice, how about a bed that is suspended by the wall? :D

Does the height off of the floor and the closeness to the ceiling make "fun time" a little more tricky?
