just watched the video with the mulkerrin brothers. wonderful!
to get to your point: democratic decisions are often changed. this is not undemocratic. just look at how often parliaments change laws.
changing conditions demand to think decisions over again. the irish people get a fair chance to review their decision in the light of the world economic crisis. let´s face challenges like this one (and of course others too) together!
the lisbon treaty does not create a new country. the EU is a very specific new form of a union between states. give it a chance, PLEASE!!!
i read another comment on your channel page, too, saying that the lisbon treaty would be an attack on the proud traditions of european democracy. my impression is quite the contrary: a true and honest debate is less often found in national parliaments than in the european parliament.
The words below were spoken over 90 years ago and are as true then as they are now...We are NOT 'anti-Europe' just 'anti EU'.These should never be confused...To have a second vote is an insult to democracy and the Irish people. We will not be bought and sold by the EU and will never relinquish our sovereignty. We are an Island state apart from the contienent of Europe. WE ARE IRISH!!!.not European!!!.
why should irish people lack the self-confidence needed to shape the european union? what exactly do see in the lisbon treaty that would inhibit you in doing this?
Hello karl07st . I am from Ireland and will be voting NO to Lisbon . I am not saying no to Europe but No to the formation of a new country called the EU . Ye are asking for to much ! It is wrong to ask us to vote for all of Europe . Vote No . Cheers .
"We do not seek to make this country a materially great country at the expense of its honour in any way whatsoever. We would rather have this country poor and indigent, we would rather have the people of Ireland eking out a poor existence on the soil; as long as they possessed their souls, their minds, and their honour. This fight has been for something more than the fleshpots of Empire"
A recent poll here in Germany for Die Welt newspaper showed that 85% of Germans consider the EU to be a dictatorship !
The leader of the EU parliament confirmed recently that when Lisbon is ratified "almost 100% of all laws will originate in Brussels".
Europeans have been LIED TO by the EU : no plans for a superstate, a European army, Galileo is only for civilian use; the Irish NO vote will be respected etc.
VOTE NO against EU lies and corruption..and for a truly democratic EUROPE !
All we need is for the US to give up Public-Private Partnerships(unless it means infrastructure construction), Repeal the PATRIOT, Military Comissions, and REAL ID Acts... as well as restoring Habeus Corpus. In otherwords, repeal all things bipartisan that has been passed in congress... My new famous quite: "If it's bipartisan, its probably dangerous and not in the interest of the common good"... I'm so happy to be a centrist... I'm ready to take my Republic BACK!
Man, your world seems to be veiled. I can personally say that having lived for 4 years in Brezhnev's Soviet Union I can see that the West is getting closer and closer to it.
Of course the mainstream people (like you) are the last to notice cos they are not harassed by the new fascism.
Let me personally tell you that I have passed through the motions of dissent and your opinion sounds like a baby trying to read Dickens. Wake up and smell the coffee - your dreamworld is hurting others!
Adolf Hitler said he knew what was good for the world so did the Communists but 1000s where killed and butchered to death why becouse the state had to much power over peoples lifes.the Lisbon Treaty gives the eu god like powers and this is not good for any one in europe.
this is simply not true. adolf hitler ´s germany was much smaller than today EU. today´s EU has many faults but please get rid of these obscure fantasies. the EU has achieved democratic progresses in many countries - and its own democracy has better quality than the democracy in many national parliaments where members of parliament often are urged to vote against their conscience.
Democracy is dangerous... Only a CONSTITUIONAL REPUBLIC, can achieve maximum social equality(Social Liberalism) and economic freedom(Capitalism)... But there's responsibility comes with freedom. Obviously, not to many people have checked whats going on. We used be a Republic, who democratically elected its leaders. Our currency and national gov't was bought out via the Fed Act of 1913. It can and is being fought massively to repeal it. You guys in the EU need to be alert... It can get there too
in their terms of dealing efficiently with problems. Centralisation of power has always benefit big corporations. It makes them easier to bribe corrupt politicians.
In their terms: more effciency, is more tyranny.
Man, you really need to get informed before promoting your ideas. You really make many wrong points.
second: i like your quote of niels bohr about openness as a weapon of democracy on your channel-page, didn´t quite understand the pic though. or do you really mean the EU turns fascist? i deeply oppose.
third: democracy is a young system. i would like to strengthen it (audacity of hope). what is your example of a democratic centralised power that failed? nazi-germany was a lot smaller than the EU! Critique of USA is justified in many points, but USA a tyranny?
Yes, I exactly mean: The EU is turning to a facist system. Now, it is on its way to facism.
Third a): The roman empire is the best example. It started as a republic, and turned into a empire. The EU is turning in the revived Roman Empire, with a soft facist face leaded by big corporations.
Third b): Yes, USA is tyranny. There is no more rule of law there. The administration does not care of the constitution, and it is not indicted. For example, you can check the hearings today on Bush's abuse of power.
Futher, I wanna remark. You claim in ur video that EU is good for the people. I will challenge your claim. It is the worse for the people. Since the EU, companies have moved to countries where the labor is cheaper. They hace increased their revenues, but the prices ...
in the countries have skyrocketed, because of the inflation they cause. So they have made retired people poorer, and the people who did not got a new job.
In the countries where these corporations are not longer, they have brought about more unemployment, and hence the goverment started to sponsor these unemployed persons. This means, we, the people, with our taxes.
In short, there is a transfer of poverty from one country to another, and transfer of wealth to the rich.
my point is that the treaty should not be mixed up with specific policies, also of course, not with the fight against nuclear energy. you can be for the treaty and still against nuclear power. patricia mckenna seemed to neglect this.
political action is not music but platon and aristoteles used music as a metaphor to describe the relation between people and government. will you allow me to use this metaphor, too?

0:40. Globalisation/Centralisation have never in history ended up in a good way. I can tell you, history repeats over and over again.
More centralisation will inevitably lead to a tyranny.
I challenge you to find only one example in History where centralisation has not leaded to a tyranny.
Man, you need to some history courses, then claim that this treaty would be the better to the people. Indded, understanding globalisation ....
