  • Eleanor Powell is still fantastic queen of tap. In the "Lucy James"-Entrance Scene has another great talent a small part: Douglas McPhail who had his biggest appearance in Judy Garlands/Mickey Rooney's "Babes in arms" and in "Little Nellie Kelly". Another uncredited part he had in 1939 in Eleanor Powell's "Honolulu" as singer/chorus and in "Broadway Melody of 1940".

  • This display of athleticism, while looking so feminine, & at least appearing to have so much fun (I'm positive there was effort, but she makes it look so easy!) ...I'm all admiration :)

  • I love how she using her ballet training in this routine.

  • Amazing !

  • 5:17

  • im starting tap in a week.... i blimin hope i can even get to half of the talent she has!!!

  • Any movie that starts off with Eleanor Powell coming into town with a suitcase in her hand, will definitely chase the blues away!

  • i just saw this last night before bedtime? and loved it! i love watching these beautiful talented wome dance? something you don't see anymore? it brings out there sex appeal in them that makes them classy :) so they can dance away for me anytime lol i will keep watching :)

  • WOW!!! Unbelievable. I have never seen anything so over the top and WONDERFUL! what talent! thanks for posting this!

  • How did society go from this, to people like Shia Lebeouf(sp?) and Paris Hilton?

  • @KoH4711 I don't know, but it sure is sad to see our current "stars". They can't come close or hold a candle to the truly creative stars of the 30's - 50's

  • @leonc100 A few arent so bad. I think a couple of them could use some pointers. but not are the stars of today make me sad to see them.

  • @KoH4711 Lol,people change. Unfortunately people, studios and other facets of entertainment get bored w/this stuff and want something else.

  • Ellie was an amazing dancer and just as much an amazing person. She often said this; "What we are is God's gift to us, what we become is our gift back to God." She became an ordained minister in her late 30's and had a children's program for 5 years winning an emmy all 5 years. She spoke, taught ,and practiced the following- Unconditional forgiveness ,leads to unconditional love, that leads to unconditional happiness. I love her spirit and her humility. She treated everyone as being important.

  • is it just or did it look like she slipped at 9:16?? after the last turn o.o;

  • Eleanor Powell was called the greatest dancer ever by at least 30 celebrities that I have been able to research. She did things that were super human. Off the stage she was super human and the humblest of stars. she deserves so much more credit. she is starting to get it. love ya ellie, hope your dancing up a storm in Heaven.

  • She's fantastic. What a talent!!!

  • how does she do multiple spins while staying in one spot. she does it two different ways-one she's jumping but how about the other way?

  • There are no movies like these anymore notice how patriotic the scenes were and Eleanor was so talented. All we have in Hollywood these days are a bunch of no talent skanks that are defineately not patriotic.

  • This is a great collage, good quality, but you made a big mistake by cutting the end of her battleship scene. Those cannons fire a big salute at the end..a fitting salute to how much I love her. You should reedit and re-up.

  • boy oh boy...I just love her style of tapping. I used to dance when i was younger...and gave it up to have a family. But its still inside me. Gosh, I want to meet her in heaven one day...and have her show me how to tap...hah hah...what a doll! Love you Eleanor!

  • I have a list of 27 celebrities who proclaim Ellie as the best dancer ever and that includes some of the very best dancers ever.

  • wonderfull, wonderfull you know if eleanor powell was the queen of tap and ann miller was the crown princess there is no-one around these days to carry on.

can anyone tell me who were the four sailors playing in the background of the "tap on wood" segment at the start of this vid ?

also love the routine with gracie allen in honolulu.

again thank you, you have made an old man happy

  • I have seen a lot Eleanor on youtube. She amazes me. What movies of her is best? Or is all good? I would really like to see them. If you dont mind telling me.

  • @lizzy 'born' to dance is my personal favorite.'honolulu' is great so is 'broadway melody of 1940'. u really cant go wrong, she was some kind of dance genius =]

  • Her hulu dance from the movie "honolulu" is her best as far as i'm concerned. Mmmmm......i think i'm in love!

  • eleanor is and will always be the best tapper. no matter the song or dance number, it always is great

  • LNAA: laugh not at all. As usual EP lays waste to the stage in this clip. So why didn't your grandma have a movie career? Or was she spastic, which would account for her moving more than this? Ha ha! You certainly seem to have inherited a mental condition. Ha ha!

  • LOL..the point is NOT to move. Bill Robinson usually never moved from one spot. Eleanor Powell was even taught to tap with attached sand bags, so she would NOT move as much. Check out 2:12-2:14...its INSANE!!! Freaking AMAZING!! I don't know how you can compare that to your grandma.

  • I admit i was wrong...she definetely dances grrrrr8!, welll...actually i didn´t watch the entire video...sorry, hehe, i love her facial expression.

  • Wonderful! She was THE greatest.

I grew up with her films ('40s and onward, anyway), and it's always a joy to see her.

    Thanks much, and G'day.

  • WOW! she really is awesome...you just don't see talent of this degree anymore.

  • @monkeyface85 ..u really think so?

  • Such an amazing dancer! One of the best of her time and still one of the best today.

  • The best female tapdancer ever!!!!!

    No doubt about that!!

Thank you so much for posting

  • a wonderful clip, wonderfully edited from this great talent...OH, certainly Miss Powell WAS born to dance!! Carlos from Argentina

  • Oh those old musicals !! Just wonderful! Thanks for posting :-) G*
