Sonic usually moves at sonic speed 760mph for kicks (which is the speed of sound) , but he can move at supersonic speed which is faster than the speed of sound hence the fact that he is often called a "supersonic hedgehog." Also by his other name: "the fastest thing alive" faster than lightning even. They slow down Sonic's movements in Brawl to give the player control otherwise he/she will go running off the stage, resulting in a self-destruct.

Thats cuz u have no skill whatsoever. Sonic is both fast and hard to control, but becomes one of the most effective characters in the game if used properly.
