@Sturaz: Red was only a murderer out of necessity. He was young and made a bad choice. The character was never a cold blooded, premeditated murder. As far as the story goes, I think it was pretty much spot on. To those arguing wether it's a true story or not . . . every person out there has their own Shawshanks that the need to escape from wether it be a physically walled prison or imprisoned in their mind. Even if the characters are fictitious doesn't mean it isn't real in different ways.

In some ways I think Red was too nice. Considering he was a murderer, he never comes across as slightly vicious or intimidating. However I'm not taking anything away from the film, one of my all time favourites.
